This updated second edition of The Granny Square Book features 25 brand new squares, and 25 all-new projects to make. Beginners welcome! Margaret Hubert makes learning to crochet easy. Since it was first published in 2011, The Granny Square Book has instructed and inspired more than 70,000 crocheters to make and create beautiful, stylish projects with these classic motifs. Now designer and author Margaret Hubert has updated her bestselling and beloved book to include 25 additional crochet squares (for a total of 100!) and 25 all-new projects to make, wear, and give. Margaret shows the evolution of the granny square, how it can be used and interpreted in different ways with different yarns, and how today's crocheter can design her own projects using the granny squares of her choice with the yarn choices of today . Among the designs are accessories (headbands, bags, and jewelry); garments (vests, jackets, and tops); and decorative items and gifts (afghans, pillows, and a sweater set for baby). The Granny Square Book, Second Edition , offers crocheters at all skill level s more, and more to love about, this timeless motif. Review: Nice designs... - Good book. Nice patterns. Review: Very nice - Very nice book. With written pattern descriptions and graphs. Am very pleased with the graphs as I find them easier to follow than written out patterns. It's full of different grannies, and has some nice projects to make at the back of the book. Recommended

An excellent book with only tiny flaws.
My version is a Kindle version, so yours may differ from mine. I was looking for a beginner Granny Square book and this looks to be one of the best. It begins with your typical supplies, then stitches, then abbreviations and symbols on patterns. The instructions are very clear, but not every single step has a photo. She assumes that you’re learning these stitches as you go and does not repeat instructions on repeated stitches, like the chain, for example. Well, that’s obviously to be expected. She introduces one of the shell stitches but fell short of letting us in on the secret of other shell stitches. Those are quite beautiful. If I had to pick out something that bothered me, it would be three things on the layout of the Granny Squares section of the book. First is the order of the Squares. Rather than starting with the easy patterns, then moving to beginner, then moving to intermediate and on to advanced, which seems the most logical, it instead jumps around. It leaves you to have to turn page after page (in Kindle) over and over again until you get one that is on the level you are looking for. The second problem is that “chapters” or Granny Squares do not start on a new page. In Kindle it makes it difficult because it’s split and you may think the photos and patterns are for another chapter. It doesn’t seem like a big problem but I wonder how many crocheted the wrong pattern believing it to be the one pictured when it isn’t. Just remember that photos and patterns come at the END of the instructions and not at the beginning. That will help you. The third problem is that the table of contents should list each Granny Square’s name. If I know I want Nicole’s Granny (funny because my sister is named Nicole and we had a “Granny”) we could find it easier. It may not be bookmarked because who knows if I’d ever use it, right? As it is, they are not in the table of contents. Do print books have it? It would be interesting to know. Outside of that, it’s a fine book! I’m very impressed with its instructional section plus the beautiful Granny Squares. They are simply gorgeous and I found myself wanting to do them all! If I could give it 4-1/2 stars I would, so I’ll round it up to 5 stars because it’s just a great book!
