Meguiar's Smooth Surface Clay Kit - Safe and Easy Car Claying for Smooth as Glass Finish - G1016

When I first read about claying your vehicles, several years ago, I was a bit skeptical. It seems strange and like a lot of work for you car, but both impressions were incorrect. After washing your vehicle with a safe wash, Claying your vehicle is the next step and a vital step. Claying removes above surface contaminants on your paint's surface: bits of overspray, tar, etc. and lots of other things you can or more likely can't even see. After washing your car, rub your flat hand across the surface. It won't smooth as glass. Furthermore, listen! You'll hear your hand going back and forth over the surface as it rubs against the contaminants. This is a car that needs to be clayed and just about any car if it has never been clayed needs to be clayed. Even a brand new car on the lot often has contaminants. Furthermore, once clayed, it's usually recommend to do it again every 3 months to a year, depending on the environment your car is in. Honestly, claying your vehicle doesn't take a particularly long amount of time. I'd say it's possible to do it in just under thirty minutes. The Smooth Surface Clay Kit from the wonderful folks at Meguiar's is the perfect kit to clay your vehicle. Again, after washing your vehicle, spray an area with the Quick Detailer, and then use the clay bar across the surface. You can search Youtube for Meguiar's Clay kit, to see demonstrations from users, but it isn't hard to do. Do a thorough job on your vehicle, and the way your hand then moves across the surface will impress you. I'm amazed every time. After claying, you have several options. The clay kit includes a sample of cleaner wax, and you can certainly use that. It has some mild cleaners and some protection. However, if you use a cleaner wax, I'd recommend waxing the car more often as it isn't quite as durable as dedicated separate products. Once a month for example with the cleaner wax, would be good. Or, you could use the cleaner wax for its mild below surface cleaning properties followed by a more robust wax product such as Meguiar's Gold Class or NXT 2.0, and then you could potentially be set for a few months. If you want to do even more after claying, you can use a paint cleaner from Meguiar's for below surface contaminants right after claying, and then optionally a Pure Polish after that. You'd top all that off with a wax such as Meguiar's Gold Class, or Meguiar's NXT 2.0. Furthermore, pick up more of the Quick Detailer, and you can use it to remove light dust and contaminants to your paint on a regular basis, and you can actually find you won't have to wash your vehicle as often. Whatever you choose, regular maintenance of your car's finish will keep you smiling for years to come. Meguiar's clay kit is a great way to start because not only does it make your finish smooth as glass, but it allows whatever wax you apply to adhere more evenly and properly to the surface, providing a better shine and longer lasting protection. First time I've used clay and now I'm definitely a convert ! The poor VW that i recently bought had not been looked after well, i don't think it's had a wash in 3 years and not only was the paint job generally 'gritty' when you run your hand over it, but on the drivers door area, there were thousands of little yellow specks that i originally thought might have been paint overspray... but on deeper thought, i think it is pollen or something that the last owner parked under over a long period of time. I had tried to wash this stuff off... used a couple of 'products' but nothing too strong in fear of melting the paint or clearcoat... nothing budged it. So I went down this route and boy am I glad I did... The panels i've done so far (and then hit up with a compound, polish and wash) have come up great.. but best of all 99.5% of those specks are gone ! They required about 10 times more going over than everywhere else, but in the end, it worked and thats all that mattered! The clay bars, I cut a half inch and used it, folding it in every couple of wipes until I felt it was dirty or started crumbling, at which point i'd throw it out and cut myself off another piece. I also used lightly soapy water in a spray instead of the provided polish but only after i tried using the polish and didn't feel it was providing the lubrication I needed ... especially as (because the surface was so bad) i was having to go over the same area over and over. Before i folded the clay in together, i would check the the clay surface and it would be a greyish or brownish colour... I kept going over the same area until it wasn't colouring like that and / or the surface felt smooth without the grittiness. It's a lot of work, but well worth it. Wish I had taken some photos of the before and after of those yellow specks! Totally happy and impressed with how well this product worked.

My car was brand new, but it sat on the car lot front line, next to a major Highway and major feeder street, so it had quite a bit of particles on it. You could not see it, but you could feel it. I used the clay kit by Meguiar's to remove all of the particles before I waxed my car. The surface, after claying, was absolutely smooth and the wax went on easily.

This is for you if: you want to make your car's finish smooth and shiny like it is brand new. This was my first clay bar and I have to say I'm more than impressed. I've always taken good care of my car, but it's easy to see how years of wear and tear can start to show on the finish. Tiny materials become imbedded in your car's clearcoat finish, gradually making the car look dull. The clay bar helps remove those imbedded materials, restoring the clearcoat to a polished shine. I gave this kit a try and I was amazed with the results. I did half of my hood with the clay bar and it was shocking how smooth it felt. I did the old hand-in-plastic-bag test and the side without the clay bar felt like sand paper. The side with the clay bar was smooth like glass. Just wash your car as usual. Then use the lubricant spray and rub the clay bar along your car's paint. As the clay bar passes over the finish, it picks up the imbedded materials and removes them, leaving nothing but clear coat. You can then follow up with a nice wax coat to help protect the finish. It takes some time to get a great finish and the clay is not as aggressive as some types, but the end result really does speak for itself. The kit also includes a the necessary lubricant for the clay, a sample of wax, and a microfiber towel -- everything you need to really restore the finish on your car. No, this will not repair scratches. No it will not fix cars that are extremely faded, but it will still make an remarkable improvement. If you're into having a clean, shiny, new-looking car this is a great way to get that mirror polish look you're searching for.

Wow....I wish I would have know about this stuff years ago. I used this on my 2011 dark blue Tundra the past weekend and the results were amazing. I wish I would have taken close up before and after photos. Just to be clear, I take good care of me cars and trucks. They're washed weekly, waxed 2-3 times per year, and in the garage when not at work. So I thought the paint wasn't that bad....I was so wrong. I hand washed the truck as usual, and it wasn't even that dirty, more dust that anything. I dried it off with the synthetic chamois and micro fiber towel. Then I broke out the clay bar and lube/spray wax. I took half of one bar and formed it into a disk about the size of a large posit not, maybe a little smaller. I sprayed the lube/wax on the panel and rubbed the clay bar as instructed with slight pressure, but not actually pushing down on it. For the first 2-3 passes I could actually hear the bar as it went over the particles embedded in the paint and then it would become smooth and quite. I turned the clay over and it was brown and full of crap it had pulled of my paint. I wiped the panel down with a micro fiber cloth and the paint literally looked new. I ran my hand across it and it was smoother than I had ever felt it. Overjoyed at the results I continued on with the rest of the truck. It looks amazing. I seriously wouldn't have believed the results if I wouldn't have done it myself. By the time I was on the last panel I could tell the clay was stating to break down, but I was impressed with how long it lasted. They should send 2 bottles of the lube/wax spray, because I think the spray will run out before the clay. I'm sold on this stuff, it was really easy to use and fast, I think start to finish on the clay bar cleaning was maybe 20-30 minutes. I will be doing this at least once a year, if not twice. Well worth the money.

With most cars if you just washed, clayed, and waxed the dang thing it would look 1,000 times better than before. This stuff works so damn well on black and red-colored cars it's unbelievable. It really does get a TON of crud out of the paint. Just when you thought your car was clean - try the clay. Believe me, it's not. After that, the surface will literally feel cleaner than glass and waxing will be so easy you'll be laughing the whole time. Make sure you use the detailing spray that comes with it and not just water. Using water alone (without ONR or some other lubricant like the detailer spray) WILL scratch the crap out of the clear and you will regret it if you don't know how to polish it out or don't want to. If you drop the clay on the ground, THROW IT AWAY and get another piece. To use it efficiently, cut it up into 4 or 5 pieces at a time. A little goes a long way. Use a LOT of detailing spray to keep it lubed while you work. Makes it easy and keeps things looking nice and clean. You may need to wash lightly again after claying for the first time. It will at least need a rinse. But the water will likely bead off the finish as if it's waxed. That's because it's finally clean...!

Really easy to use with good result getting rid of fly rust.

The car is getting some lockdown love and clay was something I've heard of but never had the time to do. I gave the car a good wash using Meguires ultimate wash and wax using 2 bucket method then set about getting the car clayed up. The stuff ie easy to use I used half one bar. I Played with it in my hands for a minute to warm it up then use some of the detailing spray that comes with it to spray small sections and work the clay over the body work. This takes stuff off the car you cannot see with the eye and leaves it feeling smooth. No point in going to all that effort and not sealing it with something so some hybrid ceramic spray was applied afterwards. I’m going to start doing this as required to keep the pain in the car looking good. It’s well worth the effort and the beesing is great! Edit- I would actually recommend the new Meguiar’s hybrid ceramic wax and detailing spray to do the same job. It’s easier to use and did the same job. I’ll keep the physical clay for those hard to get spots. But the spray stuff looks to be easier for the same job

Tenía manchas que me habían tirado o caído. No salían con nada. En el concesionario sólo me decían que tendría que pintarlo, porque ni con pulimento ya salían. Me decidí a probarlo como último remedio. Y cual es mi sorpresa que deja el coche como recién salido del concesionario. El proceso es muy sencillo. Se lava normal, una vez seco y en frío, se aplica el flu flu y se pasa la arcilla. Dependiendo el grosor de la mancha, abría que frotar un poco pero enseguida sale todo. Y se seca con el paño que viene.... Queda maravilloso el coche. Los cristales, también..... Los 43 euros mejor invertidos en mucho tiempo.

Franchement bluffé. Ce kit permet de retirer les impuretés incrustées dans la peinture en un rien de temps. L’effet “peau de bébé” est réel, et la cire ajoute un joli brillant. J’ai récupéré un aspect presque neuf sur mon capot. Très satisfait.

Ottimo Kit G1016EU. Avevamo ritrovato sull'auto tanti piccoli puntini di vernice per ferro, fatti volare probabilmente da qualche "genio" che pitturava il balcone... fortunatamente grazie a questo clay bar è stato possibile rimuoverli. Consigliamo il kit in quanto lo spray è indispensabile per una buona riuscita. Noi abbiamo acquistato contemporaneamente anche il Meguiar's 86142 Kit per fare un servizio completo e più efficiente. Passaggi con i 2 kit: 1) lavare auto con Shampoo e Guanto in dotazione nel Kit 86142 2) asciugare con panno 1 per l’asciugatura del kit 86142 3) utilizzare il Clay Bar e lo spray Quik Detailer del Kit G1016EU 4) asciugare/lucidare con panno Kit G1016EU 5) passare sulla carrozzeria la cera Liquid Wax e lucidare con applicatore tondo in spugna e panno 2 del Kit 86142 6) passare sulle ruote l’Endurance Tire Gel col relativo applicatore in spugna del Kit 86142 Nota: il Kit 86142 ha un panno per asciugatura e uno per rimozione cera e rifinitura/lucidatura, quest’ultimo panno è uguale a quello contenuto nel kit G1016EU. Spero possa essere utile a chi dovesse trovarsi nella stessa situazione per colpa di altri…
