Use features like bookmarks, note taking and highlighting while reading Software Testing: Principles and Practices. Review: Great book still - It is unfair that a binding issue of the past with the book in few copies undermined the value and image of this book and the authors. Now that this book is used by more than 47 universities around the world and available in both English & Chinese languages, request readers to have fresh look at this book seriously. I strongly recommend this book for students and professional to build their fundamentals in testing. Software Testing: Principles and Practices Review: This book is great for people with prior software knowledge - This book is great for people with prior software knowledge. I would recommend for anyone with software background that wants to learn more about testing. It is up to date with current technology and practices. As a software engineer I strongly recommend this book.

Book binding is horrible, contents pretty good
I purchased this book as part of a college course curriculum. The binding of this book is atrocious. For what it costs, especially, I should not be looking at a 90-day old book in which the first 200 pages have completely torn away from the binding and losing more every day. It is also a bit bizarre that, in an apparent attempt to save money, the text and all supporting graphics are in black and white with certain graphics repeated in color in an appendix at the very end, yuck! That said, the actual contents of the book are very well organized and written. The material is presented cohesively and in a non-intimidating way. The author is pretty good about avoiding or defining technical speak so that you don't get bogged down by vocabulary in trying to understand otherwise simple topics. Some of the side-stories are kind of cheesy but in a sort of endearing way that adds to the "dumbing down" of the material. There are a lot of good external references mentioned in the book at the end of each chapter as well as practical check lists and examples to use in the software testing process. I haven't read any other books on this topic so I have no real basis for comparison but so far it seems that I have grasped and learned everything I've needed from this book with only minor need for supplemental material.

software testing - good book, but pages fall out
It was on time and in very good condition when I got it. However, after using it in class for 2 days, about 10 pages have fallen out. (I'm very careful with my books - it's not because I wasn't careful.) I'm not sure if it's just the books from this person, or if it's just the way the books are manufactured. Several of my classmates had the same problem with their books.

Good, but watch out for the binding...
As a student, I purchased this book for a testing class and the instructor found several great concepts from the book that were very useful. There is in-depth information about black and white box testing, along with several other types of testing (system, automation, regression, etc.) The only problem I found (thus the negativity in the rating was that the book binding is very poor. After just a couple weeks, all the students in my class (as well as the instructor) complained about pages falling out. As of now (two months into the class), the first 50 pages are completely out and the only reason there are not more is because we skipped some chapters. If you read the book from front to back, unless they change the binding, be prepared for pages to fall out.

poor quality binding
This very low rating is solely due to the poor quality binding. Within 10 minutes of reading the book, pages started falling out. By the time I had read the first 3 chapters, the table of contents and entire first chapter had fallen out. I took it to a copy center and they were able to remove the bad binding, drill holes in the pages, and install a plastic binding. This book was for a class and everyone in the class had the exact same problem! Unless the publisher changes the binding, you can count on the pages falling out.

Looks like New

I bought this book brand new and it came shrink wrapped. I'm on page 200 and I've already found about 5 dead bugs squished between the pages. I average about 1 bug / 50 pages. Disgusting, small, squished, dead bugs in between the pages.

Good product but lack of practical examples

This is clearly one of the best books to read if one wants to understand quality assurance practices in the current software industry. The book covers each aspect of testing, different kinds of testing methodologies and the variety of tests one needs to do to make the software world-class.
