Product Description Review: Great jacket. Used in alpine, below freezing, conditions. - It seems like many people don’t understand the role and design of this jacket. Rab is an outdoor sports - eg. trekking and mountaineering - manufacturer of apparel. The Microlight is therefore designed to be used actively. For Asian sizes, it may seem a little loose fitting, and the sizes are more in tune with European fits. So keep that in mind. In my view, the slightly loose fit is designed to accommodate 1 or 2 other layers of clothing to keep you really warm when active. Such as a separate fleece jacket. I took this jacket on a trek in Nepal, and it was more than warm enough for -5 Celsius and lots of wind, when paired with a base layer and fleece underneath it. If you’re going to use it over just a t-shirt, go down a size. If you plan on layering, stick with the regular size. The closer it feels to your body, the more it will help in keeping you warm and trapping heat. That’s what down jackets do. A loose fitting down jacket won’t help as air gets between the jacket and your body. Just my opinion, but I’d be comfortable using this jacket in -10C with layering. Others might find it different as everyone has different cold tolerances. It’s lightweight, allows for great arm movement, and is very well designed. Just know how to use it with the rest of your clothing. Worth the premium price. Review: Excellent jacket - Very nice and light weighted jacket

Warm and feather weight
Excellent product. Original Rab warmth. Excellent to protect from mild to mildly severe winter. For more harsh winters between 0 and 5 degree Celsius, one should use more layers for warmth. Excellent and good purchase. 👍

Amazing jacket . Perfect fit and really warm. RAB really is the pioneer of down jackets and the Microlight Alpine down jacket is no exception.

not for cold weather
don't but if you stay in a cold region. its very light and comfortable but doesnot provide enough warmth on its own.

Quality
Due to improper stitching the jacket's filling is coming out. This is very disappointing as it was bought because of Columbia's brand reputation for winter wear.

Lightweight, Reliable, and Surprisingly Warm — Tested on the W & O Circuits in Patagonia
I bought the RAB Men's Microlight Alpine Down Jacket specifically for a multi-week trip to Torres del Paine National Park where I completed both the W and O circuits, and it exceeded my expectations in almost every condition Patagonia can throw at you. The biggest strength of this jacket is its versatility. I used it as an active insulation layer during cold mornings and windy hikes, and also as a compact warmth layer during breaks and at camp. Temperatures ranged from near freezing in the mornings to strong wind exposure throughout the day, especially near Paso John Gardner, and the jacket consistently retained heat without feeling bulky. What impressed me most was how well it works under a shell. The fit is athletic and low-profile, so it layers perfectly without restricting movement or trapping too much heat. The hood design is excellent in strong wind and stays secure without limiting visibility. Packability is another major advantage. The jacket compresses down very small in a backpack and quickly regains loft after being packed for hours. On long trekking days this made a huge difference because weather changes constantly in Torres del Paine. The Pertex Quantum outer fabric feels light but still durable enough for backpacking and repeated use with straps. It handled abrasion and daily trekking very well. I would still recommend a waterproof shell for prolonged rain, but for cold wind, dry conditions, and intermittent moisture it performs extremely well. Pros: Excellent warmth-to-weight ratio Very compact and easy to pack Great fit for layering Comfortable hood in high wind Breathes better than many down jackets during movement Cons: Not fully waterproof in sustained rain Slightly premium price, but justified by performance After completing both circuits with this jacket, I can confidently say it’s one of the best lightweight down jackets I’ve used for serious trekking and alpine travel. Highly recommended for hiking, backpacking, and cold-weather layering.

Quality product, expensive but you get what you pay for.
Very light but very warm ideal for early/late season over just a shirt. Rab products are expensive but you get what you pay for and this doesn’t disappoint.

Real quality down jacket.
Perfect size, warm, comfy and real quality with down filled feathers. Hood isn’t too large like other brands, nice size with a stiffened peak. Can’t go wrong with Rab, not the cheapest but you get what you pay for and more.
