Whats the difference between the c5r and the c4r ???

One is for downspouts and the other is for stove pipe. The depth of the jaws are 1.5" for the C5r and 1.25" for the C4r. The C5r is for pipe and the C4r is for downspouts, but I think you can use either for downspouts. The jaw depth is the only difference.

Does it work on 24 gauge galvanized smoke pipe?

Yes, they'd work on the smoke pipe. I've had many different pair over the years. These are good crimpers.

Can I use this on downspouts to add on extra

Ive never tried it on downspouts, just on sheet metal pipe. But if the your downspout is circular or oval it should work. I hope this helped.

Is the c5r the all around better crimper then the c4r because I would like to use for rain gutters but also like to use it if I need for duct work to?

The only difference between the two is the crimp length. The C5R has around a half inch more crimp length. Either will work great for you. I work on eve troughs as well and always use the C5R and have no complaints.
