what's the distance between the two horizontal mounting holes? need to mount it behind my monitor, distance should be 4 inches

It is 1.5” between two vertical holes. You can actually using just one hole. It should be able to handle the weights

can i fit an external WD hard disk with the Wide one?

All the measurements are included in the product description. If it's between 1.85" and 2.99" then it should fit.

What DVD player works with this to be mounted sideways?

I have two different ones, did not buy anything special. I believe most DVD players can be turned sideways. We slide it out, place dvd in.
