GREAT CARD GAMES
I am extremely happy with this product. I can't figure out what the problems are with some of the ratings. These are exciting games for me. I wanted something that I could play like when I was a kid. We didn't have TV or Computers, so we created our own excitement, with either cards or board games. You select your own profile, and select the players the players that you want to play with. These players are always making comments, and it makes the game more exciting. The games aren't dominated by the computer. Both you and the computer have a chance to win. You just have to use logic, like if you're playing a real game. It certainly has the ability to sharpen your mind, plus enables you to have playing opponents. The excitement is to be able to win some of the games. You don't want to be able to win them all. I rated these games at 5 stars. Everyone has their own opinion. I guess it's like everything else. No one is happy with everything, but these games are just what I wanted.

TOTALLY COOL BICYCLE CARD GAMES IS 10 TIMES BETTER!
Spades is our favorite computer game. We have used Totally Cool Bicycle Card Games for over five years. It does a good job playing the game. I bought the Hoyle thinking there might be fewer player flaws than the Bicycle version. After 2 hands and several player flaws I felt that I had wasted my money on this CD. Hopefully we'll enjoy some of the other games. Now I'm going to try to find the Bicycle CD that will work on Vista.

Love playing cards, but no one to play with?
I LOVE Hoyle Card Games and have recommended/given it to many people. If you love to play cards, this game provides other people to play against (who can even talk back at you), does all the scoring, and moves fast (no more tapping toes waiting for Uncle John to decide what to play next). Love to watch tv with my laptop on my lap playing cards..sure makes those commercials go faster. For those of you who travel, playing cards on your laptop on the plane, airport, hotel rooms..whatever...is a great way to kill time as well. Teens also love playing cards and it's a lot cheaper and less violent than other games out there. This is also a good gift for a senior in your life who loves to play cards, but can't get out to play with others. There are a couple animal computerized players for younger players to play against. The 2008 version is better than the new one from what I've heard. This and Hasbro Scrabble are my two favorite computer games at a cheap price for hours and hours of enjoyment!!

Wrong product shipped -
I ordered the 2008 Old Version based on the reviews of bad changes for newer versions and reading that the 2008 version would work in Windows 7. I ordered a new computer for my 83 year old mother and knew she LOVED the Hoyle card games and wouldn't be happy with a new machine that didn't have her card games on them. Imagine our disappointment when we tried to install the games - and lo and behold - the disk was for Hoyle Card Games 2009 - not the one I ordered at all. AND - it would not install on Windows 7 at all. In fact, it froze the computer and we spent over an hour on the phone with the computer's tech support. This is the first time I've ordered through Amazon and NOT received the product I ordered. Shame on Hoyle games for not being prepared for the world of Windows 7 and for creating a disk that doesn't even tell you that it is incompatible with the operating system on the machine. We spent hours thinking the computer was defective when it was the WRONG Hoyle product shipped to me that was defective the whole time. She's not using her new computer because we couldn't install her games on it. What a disappointment. I hope I'll be able to return the Hoyle games - because it is useless to us and the wrong version on top of it.

Great Game! Still has bugs...
I've been playing card games under the Hoyle name since the early 90s. the current versions are a far cry better than the originals (I think you might have had to put the floppy disk in the computer to get the game to play... definitely old school...) Anyways, I'm VERY happy that this is finally supported on the Mac platform, since any of the other card game programs for the Mac seem to be about the same level of graphics that the early 90s Hoyle card games had when I played them on a Tandy 1000... The interface is a whole lot more fun than the Masque games that are available for the Mac. I had to downgrade it to only 4 stars, though because there are several significant bugs in the underpinnings. Hoyle Bucks do not work in Cribbage (which is a real bummer for me, since that's my favorite game). Cribbage statistics are also not accrued. This has been a problem since the 2005 AND 2006 iteration of the game (played on a Dell before switching to Mac), so you'd think that they would have fixed it by now. And every time I start a new session and play the solitaire game "Penguin" it gives me the same deal, which since it's a fairly easy hand to win, I don't mind the extra [...] Hoyle Bucks for winning it every time. Hm... maybe I should start timing myself on it and competing with myself to see how quickly I can win the same hand.... At least all the subsequent games are different. I have contacted Encore's support with questions about these bugs, but so far have gotten no response. The video poker and video blackjack are fairly entertaining new additions. Overall, an excellent computer card game. Perhaps Hoyle should find a new programmer, though. One with some attention to detail this time?

Updated Review: Works perfectly on Windows 7
I am upping my rating to 5 stars because I installed it on a new computer running Windows 7. On this new system, with the Encore (Hoyle) patch for Windows 7 OS installed, everything works! All the games work and the supplementary pages as well. On my old system (XP), only a few games would work, but now I'm truly enjoying this product for the first time. I also tried the 2010 version and did not like it as well. That newer version runs ok but the graphics for the cards are much smaller making it harder to see your hand. All in all, I like the 2008 version just fine now. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After using this software for a year, I am certain that I have done everything I can to make it work properly including downloading the supposed fixes from Hoyle.com. Even so, it still will only allow play on a few games like Cribbage and Poker. I haven't tried all the games because those that don't work, hang my computer (running XP). Trying a game that doesn't work causes the Hoyle game to go to the desktop while the game continues to run in the background and then can't be accessed or shut down (a power down and restart is required to get it off). OK then, on the plus side, the games that do work, are good. I bought it to play Cribbage and that it does just fine. Unfortunately, I also like to play Rummy and that game teases me into a trap by allowing me to play one hand ... and then it goes to the desktop and into background mode etc etc etc.

as irksome as hell!
This item was programmed against the human player. It is unnaturally contrived. This manifests itself in several ways: the card deals are always non-normal and extreme; the electronic partners, especially in Spades are deliberate dunces who either overbid, underbid, or overtake accumulating too many bags etc... It seems to be getting worse with the passing of time. Also, in Spades the electronic player to the human player's left always seems to be out of the same suit at the same time as the human and always seems to have spades high enough to overtake the human's attempt. In Hearts and some other games the player to the right usually gets to take the lead which puts the human to less advantage. Also, how many times in a row in the same game is the single human player likely to always get the Queen, King, or Ace of Spades? Sometimes it's almost every single deal in a game putting the human at a disadvantage. In Pitch, all the electronic players get high card almost every deal. The human always gets the lousiest deal. In Spades, the ineptitude of my partner has made the game worthless to play. It's like it is programmed to defeat me via sabotage.

Fun card games
I played this on my Windows Vista and it worked fine. It has many different games and options. It has good graphics, characters and is fun to play. I am not sure how it works on Windows 8 as of yet. It has few bugs, it could stand to have more games. I do think it was a bit overpriced for what I got.

I've been a fan of this series since a friend in university (circa 1994) pointed me in the direction of an early Hoyle cards collection that was super fun. The 2009 3D (sort of) game was terrible to play and badly designed so I'm glad I found the 2008 edition -- which works in Windows 10 very nicely. Super happy about finding this!
