Thule Force 3 XL US

It came into my life riding high above a white Honda Odyssey, looking like it knew more than it was saying. The Thule Force 3 XL replaced an old roof carrier that had done its time — fifteen years on the job, give or take. A loyal veteran. But the new kid showed up with polish, confidence, and a list of improvements long enough to make the old case file look dusty. First thing I noticed: the lock. No guessing. No jiggling the key and wondering whether your vacation gear is secure or just pretending to be. When this thing is locked, you know it. Then there’s the dual-side opening. On a van, that’s not a feature — that’s mercy. Driver’s side, passenger’s side, whichever side the situation calls for. The Force 3 XL doesn’t argue. It just opens. Inside, there’s room. Real room. The kind of room that makes a man start packing things he wasn’t even planning to bring. Chairs, bags, mysterious family cargo — it swallows the evidence and keeps its mouth shut. The attachment system is where the real confession came out. Compared to my old carrier, mounting this one to the crossbars was unbelievably easier. No crawling around like a desperate private eye under a streetlamp. No bargain with the hardware gods. Just a solid, clean system that makes sense. It also looks good up there. Sharp. Modern. Like the Odyssey put on a fedora and decided to solve something. Is it cheap? No. But it also doesn’t feel cheap, look cheap, or behave cheap. There’s a difference, and this thing lives on the right side of it. I honestly can’t think of anything I’d change. The Thule Force 3 XL is roomy, secure, easy to mount, easy to access, and handsome enough to make the whole vehicle look like it’s headed somewhere important. Case closed.

Fits my 2020 Tahoe. Easy install, does not obstruct back hatch opening. Allows for full use of 3rd row now that we have the extra cargo space.

So easy to install and held so much stuff on top of our Subaru ascent.

The only reasons I am giving this cargo box two stars are the overall look and the excellent clamps that hold it securely in place. Beyond that, the Thule Force XT XL is simply not worth the premium price tag. O Finicky Lock/Latch System: The key mechanism is incredibly frustrating. It gets stuck constantly, and you have to slam the cover down extremely hard just to get it to disengage and release the key. O Broken Hardware (Poor QC): The rivets used on this unit are small and cheap. Two of the rivets supporting the bracket for the hydraulic hinge (which holds the box open) arrived completely broken right out of the box. Cosmetic Issues: There were also minor scratches throughout the body. While it's just cosmetic and doesn't affect the performance, you expect better brand-new packaging for this price. Overall, the structural and functional quality is highly disappointing. I expected much better from Thule.

Was able to install this on my minivan by myself and took it on a 3500 mile road trip. Was sturdy and great overall. Definitely do not use hard sided luggage or larger bags though.

High Head winds (40mph) will RIP the upper top off even if you’re going the speed limit (65mph-75mph)

Love it. It lives on my car now. Enough storage for a weekend get away with me, friends and my dogs. Just keep in mind, you won’t fit into some parking garages. For me, it’s worth the minor inconvenience.

Really great product, well made. It's a little difficult to close the latches when fully loaded, hence the 4 stars.
