OXO Brew Compact Conical Burr Coffee Grinder

Awesome Burr grinder! I got a new espresso machine and my blade grinder was not able to uniformily do espresso fine grind. This does it easily and you can grind as much or as little as needed into the included hopper! I found a "fine 2/3" setting works well for my espresso. But you can adjust to yr liking for french press, drip etc. The time selection just caculates how much you want it to grind. Start on 10 seconds for single use & more time if you want to fill a canister. It has a slim profile and does not take up a lot of counter space. About as tall as paper towels & included pics for reference. Easy to use, nice looking, no mess, not loud and love having fresh ground coffee, so easy! Great for households with different coffee preps too. Highly recommend!

Before buying this I read the reviews complaining about noise, mess and complexity. It was with some trepidation, then, that I placed the order. I've had noisy grinders. One famous make is loud enough that I routinely left the room while it ran. This OXO grinder is not noisy by any stretch, running at a low growl even without being placed on a towel to buffer the vibration. As to mess and complexity, operation is simple and foolproof. Put beans in the top. Press the button. When it stops grinding, twist the top to remove the grinder assembly and, lo, there rests the ground coffee with (hopefully) all the aroma you put into roasting. I'll admit to adopting some degree of preparation. It requires a cereal bowl, a spoon and a coffee filter. When the grind is complete, twist and remove the grinder (top portion) assembly and place it with burr down on the open coffee filter. Tilt and pour the grounds into the cereal bowl. Reassemble the grinder. Place the filter in the coffee machine and measure the coffee into the filter with the spoon. Any extra coffee is placed in a waiting grounds jar. Yes, it's mind-boggling in its complexity. Often one or two specks escape and hide on the counter top. My wife offered to assist if I'm unable to deal with it. Usually while rinsing the bowl and spoon. I know, extra work. I've had less static buildup and messy operation with OXO than with more famous grinders that take up twice the counter space, howl like a banshee and explode their grounds across the kitchen. In contrast, this is solid, relatively quiet, and radiates durability in the look and feel. I'm very pleased with it.

I purchased this in Feb of 2021 because I read about the great grinding consistency. It’s been almost 2 years and I totally recommend it. I use it on average almost everyday, twice a day for expresso. Sometimes we do a medium grind for regular coffee. The machine is still grinding like new. It has many grind settings. This is a guaranteed good unit. Now to be transparent this machine is subject to jamming the ground coffee the opening where ground coffee flows to enter the receiving cup. This is not a deal breaker! Jams are not frequent and are easily cleared using a straw. I recommend mini brushes to help with cleaning the conical burrs once in a while. In almost 2 years my unit has jammed 2-3 times under very heavy use. I clear the ground coffee into my cup and move on. Note: It’s easy to access the conical burrs for cleaning. I think users will be very happy with the machine. Update: 9-22-23 Headed towards 3 years of EVERY DAY use. Not just every day, but EVERY DAY!!! I am very pleased with the machine under heavy use. I will buy another one for a family member who loves coffee. This machine is reliable and it simply rocks!! Update: Feb 2024 Happy Birthday - It’s officially been 3 years of heaven grinding and I’m about to purchase one for my father. This machine is grinding excellent. I did notice some wear on the conical burrs due to heavy use. I could grind beans to the lowest espresso setting in exactly 20 seconds. Now it takes about 28-30 seconds. That indicates some wear on the burrs. That’s ok however. It still grinds very very good! No complaints. It took 3 years to notice some wear caused by constant and consistent use. Still, 5 stars! I’m getting my money’s worth for a home grinder. November 2024 Update: Headed towards 4 years of constant grinding, it’s till grinding great, minimum twice a day. I thought it would be helpful to mention that while we have our favorite coffee beans, we try lots of whole bean types from all over the world, so we DO NOT store fresh beans in the grinder. We grind the amount needed each time, which defeats the purpose of needing a setting that accounts for oz’s, as shown in later more expensive versions. They say you should not run grounded beans through twice. Well……. someone mistakenly ground medium for regular coffee instead of fine for expresso…..so I ran the medium through a second time to bring it down to fine. Does it work? Absolutely. I’ve done it a few times. CAUTION: “IF” you should ever decide to grind a full 32oz bag of whole beans at one time, you must be sure, to give the unit a rest after 3 minutes of straight grinding. In this way you can be sure not to burn your finely grounded coffee which impacts the taste (real coffee drinkers can taste it), because the conical burrs will be very hot after a 3 minutes of straight grinding. For Safety, The unit will shut off after 5 minutes of straight use within a 10 minute cycle for a cool down period. It is ODD, and RARE that anyone should ever need to come close to that. This is for home, not Starbucks….it is not a commercial machine. It is for home use and it is very good under regular high home use such as what I am putting it through. I think everyone will appreciate the quality and longevity of this machine.

It's been a great grinder so far. Only had it a few days, so I can't say much about it's durability, but it seems pretty solid. It grinds much better than my old spice grinder and my coffee grounds come out pretty consistent. It's definitely helped improve my regular coffee and cold brew coffee as well. The cold brew especially. It's pretty fast at grinding enough coffee grounds for a full carafe. Takes about 25-30 seconds on average for me. It's not the easiest thing to clean, but it comes apart easily enough to clean the insides with a brush. My only gripe with it is that it's a bit louder than my spice grinder. It's not horribly loud like some reviews said, but it's definitely not quiet either. Definitely don't use early in the morning if you have any light sleepers in the house. While it's definitely on the pricey side, I'd definitely recommend it if you want a good grinder or do a ton of cold brew coffee.

I have had quite a few coffee grinders in my day. Most of them were those little oval Krups blade grinders. I also got a Krups burr grinder, but it wasn't very good and didn't last very long. But this Oxo Conical Burr Coffee Grinder is several cuts above. It takes a little bit of experimenting to get the coarseness and amount just right, but once you do it is consistent and does not result in any residual fine dust. Its steel cup is nice and the coffee doesn't stick to it, and its reservoir, with a mouth large enough to simply dump the beans into it right out of the bag without bothering with any scooper, holds enough coffee for about five days at 8 good medium-strength cups/day. You just push the button, release it, and voila! And, for a coffee grinder, it is rather quiet. So consistent, so easy to use, such good coffee! I HIGHLY recommend it.

To be as blunt and simple as possible, the OXO BREW Conical Burr Grinder is the worst product I have ever purchased online through Amazon. Furthermore, my wife has been in contact via email with OXO's customer support team about the poor quality of this product, and their support team refuses to either refund or replace the product. We have provided them with both videos and photos showing that the unit functions either very poorly or does not function at all without lots of troubleshooting. Yet, their engineers have responded saying that the unit appears to be functioning "normally" in the videos (one of which I will attach to this review). However, at this point the unit does not work without quite a bit of frustration--plugging and unplugging multiple times or sweeping out the burrs multiple times just to grind enough beans for a pour over coffee. Even though I have only owned this unit for one month, I see no other solution than to place this unit in the trash and buy a more expensive unit from another manufacturer. I am an avid home coffee brewer, and I have owned other coffee products from Bonavita, Hario, Mr. Coffee, Cuisinart, and OXO. I can say unequivocally, this OXO burr grinder is the worst coffee product I have ever owned or purchased. I will attach video and photographic proof that the unit does not work correctly and will explain further below the problems with the unit. Initially, the unit worked great. For the first week, the unit produced a reliable and consistent grind of Trader Joe's Ethiopian beans (~$8.99 a bag). Then, the trouble started the second week when I began grinding Stumptown Hair Bender beans (~$15.99 a bag). The unit jammed mid-cycle for the first time. The button on the front of the unit would not start the motor so I tried troubleshooting the unit in multiple ways, following the instructions in the owner's manual. I unplugged it and plugged it back in--start button still did not work. I opened the bean hopper and nothing appeared jammed. So finally I opened up the burrs and swept them out. When I put the unit back together, it worked, and I thought the problem was solved. However, over the next week, the unit kept jamming every time I used it with the Stumptown beans. Sometimes it would jam multiple times in a row. Each time I had to open the unit and sweep out the burrs to get it to work. This process, while being extremely frustrating and time-consuming, also caused the unit to produce an inconsistent grind size. I've attached a picture showing that I get chunks of beans in my pour over because I have to play an elaborate game with the machine just to get it to function. For a unit that regularly retails for around $100, this is absolutely unacceptable for a new product. Furthermore, if a $100 burr grinder cannot be used on a premium product like Stumptown, then that grinder is entirely worthless to coffee enthusiasts. After I finished the bag of Stumptown coffee, I tried the grinder again on the Trader Joe's beans (since those beans had initially worked well with the unit). Now, I began experiencing the same problems with Trader Joe's. In order to grind 5 scoops of beans for one large pour over coffee, I had to either: (1) Open and sweep the burrs multiple times or (2) Plug and unplug the unit multiple times because it grinds for about 3 seconds before jamming even when the timer is set on 30 seconds. I have attached a video showing the unit functioning in this way. In the video, you will see the game I have to play just to grind beans using a unit that was purchased only 3 weeks prior. Here's my personal thought regarding the performance issues of the machine. I assume the motor has a fail-safe feature designed to stop the motor in event that it becomes clogged. This would prevent the motor from being damaged if a very small stone or an extremely hard bean got stuck in the burrs (which can happen on a rare occasion). My guess is that this setting isn't quite right in my unit and that the unit stops every time there is the tiniest bit of resistance on the motor. This would explain why I have to unplug the unit multiple times just to completely grind a cup of beans. Either way, it is entirely unreasonable for OXO to expect users to have to troubleshoot a new unit with such frequency as a part of the unit's "normal" functioning. Currently, OXO does not want to address my concerns with this unit so I have decided to place this negative review. I've never felt compelled before to write a negative review on Amazon. Hopefully, they will decide to improve the product and respond to customer concerns. At this point, I cannot recommend this product to any other buyer, and I will no longer purchase any kitchen or coffee products manufactured by OXO. Finally, I've decided I don't even want a replacement for this unit. Even if OXO offered to replace it, I would refuse. That alone shows my level of disappointment with the product. The overall build quality feels cheap to me, especially the timer and start button on the front. I owned an entry-level Mr. Coffee burr grinder (~$30) for 7 years that "felt" better--button quality, weight of product, sound of motor, etc. If OXO decides to respond to my concerns, I will only accept a full refund for the purchase price of the product so that I can purchase another unit from a different manufacturer. UPDATE: OXO finally agreed to refund us the purchase price of the unit after I posted this negative review and video on Amazon. The refund process took some time, but we did eventually get a check in the mail for the full purchase price of the unit. We will explore other options for a replacement unit.

This grinder is fantastic. The reviews that talk about the grinder arriving used? Ignore them. When you get the box, it states they test their grinders with a small amount of coffee beans before packaging and may be residual coffee bean in the grinder. Complaints about static? Thats normal for grinders. Some grinders handle static better than others, but in simple terms, when you grind the beans at a high speed, you are actually stripping electrons which creates a charge imbalance, thus you have static. THANKFULLY they include a mini glass water spray bottle in the box. Spray your beans in the top hopper 3-4 times before grinding, shake em a little bit, then grind. This should drastically minimize the static in most cases. The footprint of this machine is what made it so attractive to me. It's truly compact and serves all of my coffee needs. You dont really need a hopper bigger than this 50g for at home use. You should be grinding your beans fresh every time you brew anyways. Only time I need more than 50g of bean at a time is if im making multiple cups for multiple people or if I'm making cold brew. It's so easy to use though, that running through a 2nd hopper of beans is such a none issue. Extremely easy to take apart and clean. Quieter than my last machine I bought 5 years ago. Grounds are consistent enough is size across grind sizes. Just PLEASE read the manual and the notices on the box. So many complaints I read that made me hesitant in buying this were explained literally on the box. The moment I opened it, read everything and tested, I fell in love with the machine.

For many years I had the Cuisinart Supreme Grind DBM-8P1 that everyone seemed to have, it was VERY LOUD and with dark roast beans every few months it would clog to the point where it would slowly grind to a halt and I would have to excavate finely ground coffee from the burr chamber to get it working again. The plastic grind chamber finally wore through and I had to replace the machine. So I bought the SOWTECH Conical Burr Coffee Grinder, which was similar to the OXO, but cheaper (and Amazon no longer carries it). It was a bit quieter than the Cuisinart, but still pretty loud, and the plastic receptacle for the ground coffee was a static nightmare, making a mess every time I made coffee. Both the Cuisinart and the SOWTECH leaked grounds inside the housing, to the point where I had to open them up and remove coffee grounds from the "sealed" interior of the machines. Now I have had the OXO for about a year, and what a difference! It is quieter than either of my other grinders (it's not really "quiet," but still pretty reasonable). With its steel receptacle for the coffee grounds, it is almost static free, just a tiny bit of grounds cling to the pouring lip. The grind is also pretty consistent, maybe not as good as the high-end conical burr machines, but good enough for my drip coffee maker. With a big storage bin I can leave it under the counter for a at least a week before I have to pull it out and refill it. I highly recommend this lower-priced grinder, it is well worth the money, especially over the Cuisinart.

It has been said that if you want to up your coffee game it is best to invest in a decent grinder first. The reason being that if you have an fancy coffee maker, great beans, and a terrible grinder you won't be unlocking the value of those great beans. Your basic blade grinder won't give you anything consistent even if you are good about grinding the same amount of beans for the same amount of time. Anyway, on to the OXO Burr Grinder. I started my coffee making journey with a blade grinder and then "upgraded" to a cheap flat burr grinder. I didn't really realize how poorly they were grinding until I started making espresso at home. To make good espresso your ground coffee needs to be two things: 1) finely ground, and 2) have a consistent grind (as opposed to having some pieces noticeably larger than others). The flat burr grinder broke (about two years after I bought it) and I shopped around for a real grinder upgrade before settling on the OXO. I am writing this review after a year of ownership and am very pleased with the purchase. Since the purchase I've used the OXO grinder at least once a day pretty much every day for the last year. My thoughts after a year of ownership: +Built in timer. If you are coming from a blade grinder where you have to hold down a button to keep grinding the first time you walk away to do something else while the machine does it's thing is a wonderful experience. +Good consistent grind with a range of grind sizes. I'm sure a more expensive grinder would offer an even better grind but the OXO does a more than satisfactory job for me. Adjusted to the finer end should be more that adequate for your espresso maker while the coarse end will satisfy your french press needs. +Steel grinding burrs. I think this is a big part of why the OXO grinds as well as it does. It is my hope that the steel burrs used here will hold up over the long term without any need for replacement. +-Good strong motor. This grinder will power through 64g of coffee beans in less than thirty seconds on a medium setting. The trade off is that the motor is also loud. I was initially hoping for something a little quieter when I made the purchase but it isn't any louder than my previous grinders and with it powering through coffee beans it usually doesn't need to be operated long. -The bottom burr can't be removed for cleaning. If you aren't cleaning your coffee grinder you probably aren't the kind of person who cares about coffee enough to invest or investigate upgrades to your equipment. The OXO cleans up well with the hopper being very easy to remove and the top grinding blade coming out easily for cleaning. The bottom conical burr, however, can't be removed which limits how much or how well the grinder can be cleaned. I find blowing it out with compressed air gets the job well enough but I do wish both burrs could be taken out for periodic washing. -Retains some grounds. From what I have read most burr grinders will retain some grounds which means every grind will start with some stale grounds from the last time you made coffee. I wouldn't say the machine retains a lot of grounds but I really notice how much it holds on to when I am cleaning it. -The stainless steel cup that the grinds are deposited in comes unseated easily. The cup in question makes a satisfying click when you put it in properly but I've found that it pops out easily. This doesn't prevent ground coffee from going from where it is supposed to but I have taken the cup out to find that a little bit of ground coffee had fallen behind the cup. I'm not sure exactly what keeps the cup in place but I suspect that it is that part of the grinder that will likely fail first. -Hopper is not air tight. This isn't a problem for myself as I weigh out exactly how much coffee I need and then grind all the beans. But if you are the kind of person who keeps their beans in the hopper you might notice that they will go stale if you don't go through your beans very quickly. OXO also offers almost the exact same grinder with a set of integrated scales but I steered clear of that version because I wanted less optional parts to malfunction. I also already have a digital scale that I can use to weigh out my beans and anything else I might want to weigh. But if you are the kind of person who would prefer to keep their beans in the hopper then that model is likely where you want to go and might be worth the extra ~$40. TL;DR: For the asking price you are getting a great grinder that should serve your needs regardless of what kind of method you use for preparing your brew. Yes, you can get better grinders but they will likely run you a lot more money without a corresponding jump in grind quality. Highly recommended.

This is a grinder compatible with the American electric system. Buying it in Germany, I did not think about checking its voltage level. Why do they sell it in Germany when it is compatible with the power system there?
