Good Gear!
Therm-a-Rest is the bomb. Great for on the ground or on a cot. Perfect for sleeping comfortably. This was my second purchase for a guest. My own XL is still fantastic after 5 years.

Comfortable sleeping pad
Great quality and easy to inflate. Super durable and extremely comfortable. Didn't feel like I was bottoming out. Firm mat but you can customize that. It retained the air all night.

Solid performance from a trusted product
I have not experienced any problems with any of the Therm-a-rest Basecamp sleeping pads I’ve purchased. They will self inflate but not as full as they should be for maximum comfort. I always add a bit of additional inflation to boost the internal pressure and firmness of these pads. In my experience the construction and quality of these pads has been consistently at or above my expectations. One tip I have concerns storage. So I deflate and roll up the mat starting at the end WITHOUT the air valve (this is the standard method.). Once the pad is fully deflated and rolled all the way up to the valve end I close the valves. Then, with the valves closed, I completely unroll the mat AND re-roll it starting at the end with the air valve. This way the pad gets stuffed into the storage bag with valve nearer the core of the roll I seat of the outer layer of the roll. My hope is the valve is better protected in storage and transit this way.

Kept my large body off the ground and warm
Went camping in Big Bend National park, the lows for each night were 32 or lower. This pad kept me warm and comfortable all night on the Rock covered ground. Despite my weighing 235 lbs and occasionally kneeling on it or supporting my weight with my elbows on it, it remained fully inflated. I'm impressed with it's durability. It was easy to inflate and deflate and despite my ordering the 30" width option, it fit on the back of my pack quite well. It weighs less than I was expecting and once inflated I never felt the ground through the pad despite my size while laying flat. I slept very comfortably all 3 cold nights in the National Park, one night got down into the Mid 20's and the wind was howling. I'm very happy with my purchase so far, if I have issues in the future I will update this review.

Comfortable and supportive
I have a really old version and wanted one for my son. The extra $$$ for therma-a-rest is well worth it. I also have a klymit inflatable that my other son loves, but I prefer this.

Butt doesn't hit the ground.
This isn't made for backpacking -- it's much too big. But, if your use case is tent-camping or having someplace soft for your guests to crash, this is ideal. It's very thick and you don't touch the ground when you sink into it.

Too expensive for the end result.
Thermarest pads are good products - there's no denying that. But at this price point they should be perfect and this one isn't close. Won't fully self-inflate and the new design valve is kind of a pain in the backside

Superior comfort for a thin mat
This was my best, last-minute camping buy this year. First of all, I’m a chronically ill, middle-aged woman with, frankly, a battered body. I have MCAS (chemical sensitivity, which is becoming more and more common as a complication of long covid). Thermarest sleep mats are the best I’ve found for a night’s sleep without wondering if my spouse has poisoned me in the morning. The offgassing is minimal. They don’t stink. I usually use a Mondoking - twice the thickness of the BaseCamp - so I was worried that this thinner little brother wouldn’t be man enough to cushion my hips and back, or for the rough, wilderness ground I’m camping on in my Nemo backpacking tent. Not the case. This is my twenty-first night using the BaseCamp directly on the ground. I plan to put it on a low cot in the future but, thanks to the foam core, it’s plenty warm enough. I’ve slept soundly throughout AND I can still walk in the morning! Super easy to deflate and stuff back into the sack, if you use your knees to push the air out. The wing lock makes finding the desired firmness easy. Quality-price ratio is seriously good. I’ll be saving my Mondoking for bigger-effort trips in future, and possibly using this on top of it for nights where there’s a lot of pain. Standalone, however, this has become a main bit of kit for me.
