I bought this Toshiba N300 PRO 16TB to expand a home NAS that runs 24/7 for media and backups. For a CMR NAS drive in this capacity class, it has been a straightforward, trustworthy install so far. Drop-in was uneventful: it identified cleanly, passed a full surface check before I trusted data to it, and sits in a multi-bay chassis with decent airflow. Sustained sequential transfers in my setup are where I expect a modern 7200-class NAS drive to land, and idle power draw has not been a problem on a small home server. The drive feels built for always-on duty rather than occasional desktop use. The main caveat is acoustic: spin-up and seek noise are noticeable in a quiet room if the chassis is nearby. That will not matter in a closet or rack, but it is not a silent bedroom machine. As with any large platter drive, give it time for a proper burn-in before migrating critical data. I would recommend it for home or small-office NAS builders who want 16TB of CMR capacity without chasing exotic enterprise pricing. Skip it if you need near-silent operation next to a desk, or if your workload is mostly random IOPS where an SSD tier makes more sense.

I ordered 5 N300 Pro (14tb) to use in a NAS. It surprised me how quiet the drives are and how cool they run. So far most of my time has only been spent rebuilding the storage pool, but I'm happy with the drives and their cool running temps. Granted my NAS is not very beefy in terms of hardware, but temps and noise is comparable to my old 4TB WD100EFAX drives. All drives passed the extended SMART test. Regarding the warranty, what other folks said is true, I checked my drives and they all showed NO WARRANTY on the Toshiba site. But with that said, I also bought some 6TB WD drives from Amazon as spares for another NAS and those also show "NO LIMITED WARRANY" on the WD site, same boat there.

Still running 3 years later in a DAS

Got a couple of these for my network storage. They are quiet, have a large storage capacity, and was easy to install. They run at a higher RPM then what would be used in a desktop computer so they have a great read / write speed.

I had been running a plex server with up to 18TB or so in content. This was split over 3 external usb drives (8TB, 8TB, and 6TB) but I have been running into issues with what appeared to be the drives going to sleep. However, it was the 8TB drives just simply dying, looking at the smart stats they are erroring billions of times. So, I decided to stop buying drives from Costco and just slap in some enterprise drives to my dedicated Plex machine. I paid slightly more than the lowest price for these because I wanted them to be sold by amazon. I have bought other IT items from sellers on Amazon but sometimes you get refurbished gear/drives with it being disclosed. The price per TB is higher than normal, a good price for drives in this size is around $14 per TB. So far these drives are 100% performant regularly hitting 150MBs + and have 0 errors on them. They are rated for way higher usage that I will ever use. As I migrate data and fill up these drives I will buy another as needed. 100% recommended.

Amazon package arrived in Thailand without issue. Each drive was well packaged inside its own sealed Toshiba box with custom air cushion padding. The Toshiba boxes were packed inside a larger Amazon box, padded only by some crushed paper. The drives work well in my Synology DS1618+. The drives run quiet unless doing random seeking, where the seeking sounds are audible but not annoyingly loud.

Dropping like flies with just around 500 hours! Drive after drive unrecoverable with just a bit over 500 hours lifetime. That is a horrific situation for 20TB drives. That is a great deal of lost data and time to recover from backups! I would NEVER purchase another Toshiba drive. Ever, after this nightmare. I am having a horrendous time reaching support for an RMA... always on hold. I have read reviews and ignored them about drive quality and RMA/Warranty. In my case... all of the negative warnings were completely TRUE! Do NOT purchase these drives. I regret my purchase! I don't want anyone else to suffer the loss of time, money, and the complete loss of faith that I have experienced. I still have 6 drives left to worry about now. Despite the cost... I really think it best to just replace these brand new drives with Western Digital. I cannot take more data recovery and downtime due to this sub-standard product. RMA Process is ancient and slow. I have yet to get my drive replaced, and I am beginning to think Toshiba is not going to honor their own warranty terms!

Works perfectly with no issues during the drive scan. As fast as any of the other NAS hard drives I have in my server, with the fastest sectors clocking in at 280+MB/s. The drive arrived within 2 weeks to Australia and was packaged perfectly. The drivers packaging had no apparent defects and the drive itself was well protected during its international postage journey.

O produto chegou inteiro e funcionando, mas com o papel da garantia de outro produto, com o lacre violado e sinal de que já foi instalado. Pelo visto a Amazon brasileira não prima pela integridade. Eu comprei porque o preço estava atrativo, mas na informação do produto deveria constar que não era um produto virgem na embalagem lacrada. Só não devolvi de cara porque precisava com urgência. (Aliás, chegou um dia atrasado.) Comprar um HDD sem lacre não vale o risco, procurem um vendedor confiável. Só tirei mais estrelas porque chegou funcionando, mas sabe lá por quanto tempo — veio sem a garantia do produto.
