Love this little gismo as do everyone who sees it
As a trade user and having spent may £s on electric "stud" finders, this little simple device has never let me down. it can take a moment or two to find a stud, but it does this by the magnetic attraction to a nail or screw embedded in a stud such as ones securing laths, or plasterboard. the little yellow arm points at the nail, and the "v" groves allow you to mark location. It only finds the nails or screws not the wood itself so you have to work your way up and down the stud to find more nails. once you have 2 or three you can extend the line with a level and as spacing is normally 16 inches or 400mm so you can work out where the rest are. Love this little gismo as do everyone who sees it. really useful Really cheap really accurate.

Just a simple magnet that will pivot when near ferrous metals - simple and works!

Sometimes stud finder
Only buy this if you enjoy rubbing things on walls and marking them as thats all this tool done i found maybe 2 screws in stud locations which took precision guiding and my knowledge of being a joiner maybd if the magnet was stronger or bigger and the yellow rubber over the magnet never moved from side to side when moving the tool around and only did so when a screw or nail was located then maybe it would be a handy tool but i genuinely found it a waste of money

Now when everything seems to gravitate toward the hi-tech versions it's hard to find one of these little old-fashioned cheap tools. But for just a quick check to hang a picture or for carrying around in your pocket, this is totally adequate.

There are a lot of ways to hunt for studs behind drywall. After tapping the wall to listen for hollow vs. solid sounds, this little tool is probably the oldest. My application here was a bit different. I knew where the wood behind the drywall was, but I specifically needed to know where the screws were for a ceiling speaker install. For some reason (a previous patch?) someone laid a 2x4 on my drop ceiling and screwed into it randomly. Unfortunately, this was done right where I needed to mount a speaker. I needed to find the screws so I could get the 2x4 out of the way. I remembered that my grandfather had a tool like this so I searched for it on Amazon and found this little guy. The concept is simple. It's a cylindrical magnet pivoted near or at its center inside of a plastic housing. You slide this across the drywall, and when you slide over a (ferrous) screw or nail head, the magnet will move inside the housing to follow it. Then you can slide back and forth around it a bit to zero in on its location. I used it here and it worked perfectly. Now that hole is clear and ready for me to mount my speaker... all thanks to hanging with my grand dad and poking around in his toolbox.

Works exactly as advertised! I was skeptical at first but it worked well. I was able to easily find the centre of studs and wall mount my TV using this little device. Best of all, doesn't use batteries!

This is such a simple tool! Works every time! Old school ways of doing things are the best ways. No electronics, batteries or complicated directions. Will never let you down. Buy it!

Works just fine. It's a magnet so it will find nails in the studs. If you're not Patient, well, it might be challenging.. It's worth the money..
