Good Book, Paper Quality Isn't That Bad
Reading Rudin is hard, but it is worth the time invested in my opinion. The topics covered and the presentation are unmatched, and prepare you for other graduate texts and reading the literature.Regarding paper quality: It isn't that bad. The pages actually feel quite smooth, rather than the gritty paper in some of the cheaper books. You can see through a little bit, but I have no problem reading the text, I don't even notice. For an international edition of a math textbook, this is very high quality.Full table of contents and all chapters are included (again not always the norm for the international editions).

Ah Rudin...
Rudin was the master. My understanding is that this is the third of his books and I certainly got that impression. It is written well but I wouldn't think it to be a good first book on functional analysis. Having said that, if one desires to master the subject, reading this book and working the problems therein will do exactly that.

Thin paper that lets you peek into the other side
OK, I always thought those who leave a complaint about the physical condition of a book were sort of missing the point of this comment section (i.e., the comments should be about the content of the book), but then, after buying tens of, possibly about a hundred books so far on Amazon, I finally came to have this unpleasant experience regarding the physical condition of the much-acclaimed book above. I thought I should let others know, and I couldn't find, unfortunately, a better-suited place.First of all, the paper is so thin that through every single page I can see the other side, which is unbearably annoying if you're parsing through a stack of symbols including subscripts and superscripts. (I also have a copy of Rudin's Real and Complex Analysis, which has 416 pages. Functional Analysis has 424. Yet the latter is thinner; I'd say 80% or lower.) Worse yet, the book stinks, and I really don't think I can bear it to the end. Probably this is what the "Indian edition" means, and I see that that's clearly visible in the image of the cover of the book, so likely I won't be able to demand a refund, but again, fellow students of math, GET ANOTHER EDITION. Really, what is this nonsense.
