Hip Expectations is a practical, humorous guide for patients about to have a hip replacement, or for people about to care for someone when they get home. Written by Mr Jonathan Hull MD FRCS (ORTH) Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon who, after many years of performing the operation, found himself as the patient about to receive the same treatment, wrote this guide to be as informative as it is down to earth. "It encompasses all of the things that caused me to reach for Google at 4am when the hip pain had woken me in my pre-op weeks and months, and the little things I worried about post-op...The sort of practical, down-to-earth, advice that this book contains, is as relevant to a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery as it is to the non-medical patient." Mr Henry Tilney MD FRCS, Consultant Colorectal Surgeon and hip replacement patient Review: Easy to understand - Uses humor and facts! This was a great companion to get ready for hip surgery. All important details were noted. Easy read, not long and definitely a plus! Review: Simply indispensable - This book is essential for anyone who needs a hip replacement. It has become my guide. All aspects of the patient's perioperative journey are described in this book, answering all questions that may arise both before and after surgery. Most importantly, the book was written by a surgeon, and reading it feels like you're constantly in touch with the doctor in real time. My journey would not have been so smooth without this book. A huge thank you to the author.

Good book
Great book.. at last. Finally, a doctor who himself is a patient explains the pros. And the cons of a hip replacement, very informative. Very educational eased a lot of my anxiety and fear..

Essential pre-surgery preparation
This is the 'Go-To' guide for anyone embarking on hip replacement surgery, from diagnosis to discharge...and beyond. Jonathan Hull combines his expertise as a successful orthopaedic surgeon with his own experience as a patient to reassure even the most apprehensive reader (and I was certainly one of those!) He uses humour to make the advice relatable but, more importantly, to emphasize just what we should, and shouldn't do...and why. We can smile at his own missteps and try not to make them ourselves! This book, literally, walks you through the process in an informative, entertaining and encouraging way. Expectations met and matched. Highly recommended!

Disappointing
Told me nothing new and totally omitted femoral nerve pain. A doctor congratulating doctors. Not much help
