I've read a lot of reviews from people who are blowing through this stuff really quickly. Silca has a very informative YouTube channel that gives you TONS of information on how to use this stuff. You really should take the chain off, put it in a Mason jar (glass canning jar) and put the stripper in that. You'll want to shake it up for a while, let it set for 10 minutes, shake again. . . Sit for another 5 and then you can take the chain out, rinse it well with water and you're good to go. Here's where you'll save your money: After you take the chain out, you can put a funnel in the stripper bottle, line it with a coffee filter, and pour the used stripper back into the bottle and let the filter clean out all of the particulates. . . Or at least the vast majority of them. Silca claims that by doing this, you'll be able to get 30-40 cleanings out of a bottle. This stuff really works wonders and its especially good for preparing a chain to get waxed. It is expensive, but when you consider how reusable it can be (if used correctly) the price is actually really good. Give it a go!

so I bought two bottles of this stuff. I have only used about 1.25 bottles give or take however. The first bottle I used was for a 100 link 7 speed chain that had about 700 miles on it and I was doing the normal lubing and degreasing on this chain every 50-100 miles. I used the bottle instead of my normal degreasing stuff and it really knocked out all the gunk from the chain and was super easy to use. I ended up using about 50-75% of the bottle to do 2 washes till it became clean on the 3rd wash and the chain felt completely stripped and ready for waxing. the second bottle I bought I used about 50% of for two washes of a never used 100 link 7 speed chain and after the second wash it felt completely stripped of all the factory grease. this stuff is kinda expensive for how little is in the bottle but if you want to wax your chain it makes it so easy and straight forwards and since you only have to do it once the cost of it kinda becomes a nonissue since you will be getting more milage from your more expensive parts and not have to spend more time/money on cleaning/degreasing.

Worked better than expected.

I used this on a new SRAM Transmission flat top chain. Packing grease on the new chain was sticky to the touch and restricted the chains movement. After failing to clean the grease off by soaking in acetone and scrubbing with a brush/acetone, I bought Sicla Chain stripper, used a wide mouth pickle jar and shook for 15 minutes (directions only say 5 minutes). Results are incredible. Liquid turned from clear to grey, and the chain came out free of all grease nicely loose/floppy! Chain stripper doesn’t off-fume and smells fine. I rarely leave reviews however I’m exceedingly impressed with this product, and biodegradable! This is truly an awesome product and worth the price!

This degreaser works as intended and does its job exactly as described, I was initially very skeptical as I head that degreasing a new chain was a chore and that most strong cleaners don't even work and can actually cause corrosion if left to soak overnight. This exceeded my expectations and thoroughly cleaned both a new and used Sram chain, I used about 1/3 of the bottle for both chains so you can get quite a lot of chains cleaned with just a single bottle. My method is pour 1/3 of the bottle into a used Talenti Gelato container or mason jar, shake and swirl the jar aggressively for about 1-2 mins and then attach the jar to my oscillating multi tool with the Velcro sanding pad attachment and adhesive Velcro on the bottom of the jar, this is basically a poor man's version of an ultrasonic cleaner and I leave it for another 10mins. The chains come out loud and clean without any stickiness that would indicate that grease is still present. The chains then get rinsed with water and get semi dried by compressed air followed by a 10min bake at 300f in an oven to evaporate all the water inside the rollers. Then it's waxing time.

This is a remarkable product. Far cleaner and environmentally responsible than using harsh chemicals to clean your chain, and more effective than Dawn dish soap. After dunking your chain in this solution in a jar, giving it a shake, and waiting 10 minutes, then rinsing with warm water, your chain is amazingly clean and ready for waxing. And you can reuse it, after filtering with a coffee filter. Wonderful!

TLDR summary at the end of my review. After stripping several chains using odorless mineral spirits and isopropyl alcohol I was excited to try this product. This product may be for you if you don't have a workshop or garage. I have a workshop and take used fluids to our local recycling center, so I will probably go back to my old method. I'd give this 3.5 stars, but it was on sale so I'll give it 4. First of all, I have no idea how you could strip 16 chains with one bottle. I stripped one and used 3/4 of a bottle. Per Silca's video I used a coffee filter and funnel so I could try to reuse the stripper, but it is still very dark and opaque. It has been sitting for 24 hours and the factory lube has yet to settle to the bottom of the jar. I'm hoping it will settle and I can pour the clean fluid back into the bottle and recycle the dirty portion with the factory lube. The key to good wax adhesion is a very clean chain completely clean of factory lube. I followed the instructions, and after a second water rinse I was still getting factory lube on my rags when wiping down the chain. I went for round 2 in the Silca chain stripper, then a hot water rinse and 5 minutes in the ultrasonic cleaner. Still a very small amount of factory lube on the chain. So I gave the chain a bath in isopropyl alcohol, wiped again, and it was clean. The chain stripper also leaves a thick slippery film after use. I used it to degrease my drivetrain, and it worked very well. My cassette and crank look brand new. But the film was difficult to remove. I tried hot water, Dawn and a brush which removed some of the film, but not all. Next up was isopropyl alcohol, after some wiping it removed most of the film. Brake cleaner took it right off, but is very toxic and smelly. The instructions for the chain stripper say you can drop it right in your wax and the residue will boil off, but the ideal temperature for their secret blend is 75 degrees C. I'm no science whiz, but that's probably not hot enough to boil off the residue. Also, I'm not waxing my crank or cassette, so the residue needs to be cleaned. As a straight degreaser not used for waxed chains I think it would be excellent, but for wax I think the film would affect adhesion. To summarize, this product is for you if you live in an apartment, or don't have access to a workshop or garage. Also, if you're concerned about the use/recycling of toxic chemicals it's a good buy. It may not be for you already have everything you need and your method for stripping chains is dialed in. As a straight up degreaser it is excellent, but leaves a residue that is difficult to remove before waxing. It is expensive and I'm skeptical if I'll be able to strip 16 chains using one bottle. I generally get very good life our of my waxed chains, so hopefully that won't be an issue.

Having stripped many chains in the past, and knowing the long process of having to do it a few times, I was a little skeptical but excited to give this a shot after a shop put lube on my already waxed chain. Holy cow this stuff worked so incredibly well. I left my chain in the solution for a bit longer than the 10ish min to ensure I got everything off as I was going to be re-waxing my chain. No scrubbing needed at all, the chain came out looking brand new with no residue. I used about half the bottle in a small mason jar for the chain. Used the other half for the cassette. Will definitely be buying this again the next time I need to strip a chain etc.
