#1 New York Times bestselling author Greg Iles takes readers on a daringly executed roller-coaster ride as a family under attack takes justice into their own hands. It begins on a perfect night, with a perfect family about to be trapped in a perfect crime... Will Jennings is a successful young doctor in Jackson, Mississippi, with a thriving practice, a beautiful wife, and a five-year-old daughter he loves beyond measure. But Will and his family are being watched by a con man and psychopath who may be a genius. A man who has never been caught and whose victims have never talked to the police. A man whose life's work strikes at the heart of every family's unspoken fear: the unstoppable kidnapping. But this time he's picked the wrong family to terrorize. Because Will and Karen Jennings aren't going to watch helplessly as he victimizes them. They aren't going to let him get away with it. They're going to fight back... Review: Breathless!!! - From the very beginning to the end, the reader is caught up into terror no family should experience. A mother, who's child has been taken almost in front of her eyes, is then held hostage, beaten, threatened with rape, and even worse threatened with the death of her precious child. This plunges the depths of human depravity, and the reach of a desperate parent. What's a mother not willing to do to save her child? How much is a father willing to pay for his family? You can't quit reading even though every page seems to reveal a new twist to the kidnappers' wily machinations to torment these people and their efforts to beat him in impossible races to save their child. Be sure you don't need to rise early the next day when you start to read this, because you will likely not be able to put it down until after the last word has been read. Review: Heart-stomping - Last evening I thought I’d check out “24 Hours” at least a few pages..... hah.....but after a few more than a few I was hooked. The chapters were short and each one more harrowing than the last. Was not able to breathe throughout this one... Read right through bedtime and all night which was a first for me.... No sleep! Totally mesmerized. Don’t know who wouldn’t enjoy this exciting action packed thriller populated with a very bad killer, rich doctors, ladies of the night, a smart, sweet little 5 year old diabetic, and a huge 300 pound mentally unstable fellow. So many worthy and amazing characters.

Very Good!
This is my first time to read this author, and I'm so glad I discovered him. What a great writer he is! This story had me from the very beginning. What suspense! I couldn't stop reading, and every time I thought I knew what was going to happen this author surprised me. All the characters were well developed and seemed genuine to me. The plot was tight with more than a few twists and turns that kept me turning the pages. If you enjoy suspense \thriller type books then read this. You won't be sorry!

A perfect day's reading
Joe Hickey is one smart sadist. Like your more successful gamblers, he knows that walking away from the table when you're ahead is usually the best policy. For five years he has supported himself and his collaborators with his patiently-won earnings, the produce from his kidnappings--only one perfectly planned abduction per year--of the young children of well-to-do doctors. His crimes are so well thought out that Hickey knows his victims will neither attack him nor call the police, either during the kidnapping or after their children's safe return. He is confident enough in his planning that he uses his real name--rubbing his victims' noses in their impotence--and is unconcerned if they happen to have access to firearms. The distraught parents of Hickey's targeted children bend to his will--a rather unpleasant business given his demands--because they have to. Hickey's sixth kidnapping, of five-year-old juvenile diabetic Abby Jennings, is the subject of Greg Iles' taut, perfectly plotted, utterly gripping 24 Hours. The Jenningses may be having the worst day of their lives in the book, but you'll have a great one as you neglect your responsibilities, lock yourself in your bedroom, and read Iles' novel from cover to cover. A disappointment. Not Iles best
This book was disappointing. Iles writing was normally better than this. Plot holes, for instance in one scene the female villain soils her self with her human waste and per the scene her clothing and the chair she was in. And without any clean up, she continues along for at least hours, and goes in public shopping. There are others. Such as highly improbable scenes at a place I very familiar with, having been employed there for the first few years it was open, the Beau Rivage. I could overlook those, knowing that I had an insider's knowledge. The ending is also very weak.

Well written, but unbelievable plot.
I found this book to be very well written. The suspense was terrific. I like to read in bed for a while before going to sleep. But I found myself reading one more chapter! So why not 5 stars? There are several problems. The plot is unbelievable. Many of the actions of the good guys and bad guys are questionable. The activities of law enforcement are unreal. The last chase scene is totally ridiculous. The ending is missing finalization on some of the characters. Still, it's a good read especially if you park your common sense at the door.

suspenseful
I was at the edge of my seat most of the time I was reading this. Mr. Isles has once again nailed it. I’ve read his Mississippi books and they were all wonderful, deeply emotional, full of danger and mystery. This book is a great read. A story of the kidnapping of a 6 year old girl and a kidnapper/murderer about to finish his 6th kidnapping.

A Master works his Magic!
Mr. Iles……the story he’s concocted has left me weak in the knees! His characters are so real, his story line so realistic I can hardly get to the next page fast enough! Instant stress turns into raging fear in no time as the author positions us in the sidelines of panic as we race along, our psyche petrified. Too much! Read this yarn! Hurry!
