Odeo Flare LED MK3 - SAF0602

As a yachtsman for 60 years I got fed up with throwing conventional flares out every 3 years and bought the Odeo flare. I have spent a lot of tie testing this flare with other yachtsmen I know and can say that it works better then advertised. The fact that you can carry it anywhere even in the car is very handy. If you breakdown on the motor way you put a smal triangle behind the car and hope someone sees it . I put the Odeo flare on a small tripod in the back window and EVERYBODY sees it. Much safer A brilliant product.

I have bought three of these flares - two have gone to my two lads who are into kayak fishing. I know the person (a former Coastguard) who developed them and the amount of time that went into their development. The flares are extremely bright and simulate very closely the light produced by a pyrotechnic-type flare. Being LED lights, the 'burn time' is massive - unlike a pyro. The batteries are replaceable and the units are waterproof. Although some people comment about the cost of this flare, due regard should be given to the cost of pyros, their burn time and shelf life.

Works as advertised. Will only really know if and when it is used in anger! Certainly much safer than pyrotechnic flares. I check each outing to see if it functions properly (i.e. Battery not flat). This item combined with VHF radio DSC, mobile phones (if in range) is a good combination. To see a persistent red, randomly flashing light with an SOS morse coding period is a better 'attention getter' than a flare, which might be considered a firework.

Excellent concept but for £100+ it’s a waste especially given the flare is NOT waterproof. This has been used across the year in the cockpit of my kayak while on sea kayaking expeditions. It gets exposed to small doses of water and is always cleaned and tested after each paddle. After 3 months it started to flash on its own (small intermittent flashing) I removed the cap and found there was water in with the batteries. I checked the seals and replaced the batteries. I was then more careful to ensure the cap was on tighter to ensure both gaskets were effective. Over the next few months I had to change numerous batteries due to salt water exposure. In the end I purchased pyrotechnic day night flares as I felt I could not trust this device in an emergency as it would leak constantly. A poor design I wouldn’t want to place my life in the hands of. I shall be investing in the Rescueme flare - as it’s properly tested.

A fantastic in invention, one twist of the base and you have a strong, red signal which accurately replicates conventional flares. Superb product.

Total rip off as it's basically just a 5000 lumen torch.....but hey.....I'd rather have one than not right?.. so they can charge what they want and I have to pay it! Only gripe with design is that it is a little too big to fit in a buoyancy aid pocket when I'm out sea kayaking. If it were an inch shorter that would make a huge diference.

Es de muy buena calidad y destella bastante, estaría bien que trajera su trípode, para colocarlo en montaña o en lo alto de algún vehículo, de hecho lleva una rosca por fuera del tapón de las pilas.

No switch only the bottom is to screw. It use 3 AA Batteries. Simple to exchange. The rescue med uses special batteries, bad. Very expensive.

La he comprado porque no quiero bengalas ni otro material pirotécnico. La luz es roja centelleante. Me fío de las pruebas realizadas en revistas especializadas sobre que es visible a 4 millas. El pedido/entrega sin ningún problema y en los plazos anunciados

wie bei allen seenotsignalen hoffe ich, den realen test nie machen zu müssen. die led-leuchtfackel macht im demo-test einen sehr stabilen eindruck und scheint mir eine gute alternative zu den pyro-handfackeln zu sein, die nur kurz leuchten, gefährlich im umgang sind und alle 3 jahre ausgetauscht werden müssen. all das entfällt hier, schnell und sicher einsatzbereit durch jede person an bord.
