For 1.5V cells, it applies what appears to be a 47 ohm load, which draws about 0.3 amps from a good cell, and it is enough current that a weak cell should indicate so. The meter green-yellow threshold is 1.30V and the yellow-red threshold is 1.02V. The 9V applies about a 220 ohm load, which is 0.041 amps for a good cell. The green-yellow threshold is 6.6V, the yellow-red threshold is 5.7V.

Works well when functional. One of them died after a couple of months. The other is working well

These testers are consistently accurate, cheap and very easy to use. Most people dont need anything fancy, just an answer to the age old question of "is this battery still good?" and this simple little device is the best option I have ever seen to answer that question at so reasonable a cost. Also have to say is that not only are they very durable (just replaced one i bought in 2018) but was pleasantly surprised to find this being a rare example of a product decreasing in cost instead of increasing like every thing else. I bought 2 a week ago for the price of the one I bought in 2018. One of the handiest and simplest gadgets I have ever had and well worth every penny if you have even a couple battery operated products.
