How do you delete the writing? Pressing the button as per instryctions doesn't work. Also the video showing how to retrieve the stylus is useless.

I have two of these calculators and both work fine. The big round button at the top (to the right side of the solar panel) will clear the writing. Maybe you have a faulty one. The pen just slides out.

a year or more and it depends on how many times you use.

How do you change the battery? Mine arrived dead.

Unscrew the screw and unclip/slide it out.
