An excellent teaching tool that every single family should know about!
The example scenarios given in various sections of the book are extremely helpful. It is important to note that the author provides both the adolescent teenager's point of view, as well as the parent's point of view as a guide for what to do and what not to do in certain situations. I appreciate how the author offers more than one solution and possible outcome as a problem solving guidance tool. The author does an excellent job of explaining the different parenting styles, the pros and cons of each one, and offers step by step guidelines for effectively parenting today's teens while allowing them to learn by trial and error in order to become successfully independent and maintain a positive relationship with their parents. I also appreciate the questions asked at the end of each chapter with a blank section for answers to be filled in by the individual when utilizing the book as a teaching tool. This would also be beneficial for families who are seeking counseling services to assist with problematic issues within the household. I truly wish this book had been written when I was a teenager. Fantastic read!

Teenagers Can Be Managed Effectively
This book helped me understand the stages a teenager goes through and how I can relate to them to get them to trust and respond to me. Adults are often perceived as obstacles to a teen, due to the ever-changing mindset they are in. This book offers an honest perspective about how to use the 7-Step process to manage teenagers effectively. There are helpful suggestions as well as real life scenarios that model communicating with a teen. The goal is to lead them toward becoming independent, confident, and responsible young adults. When setting boundaries, include them in the conversation. By building a relationship, your teen will feel secure and successful. At times it may be necessary to implement discipline. Learning how to guide rather than punish, makes that go more smoothly. Most importantly, if we are good role models and show our teens how we take care of ourselves, they will be more likely to buy into that idea when we suggest structured routines and expectations. Though I’m not a parent, this book helped me in my dealings with other people’s teenagers, as I am a caregiver. Thanks!

A “must read” for all parents
This book is well-written, well-organized, clear, with powerful examples, and full of nuggets of wisdom for guiding kids to become healthy, productive adults. I particularly liked the sections dealing with the following topics: talking by listening; disciplining with specific responsibility; the real effects of yelling; how to involve teenagers in mutual decision making; recognizing helpful boundaries; productively negotiating optional situations; punishing by calibrated discipline; and realistically expecting imperfection, in kids and oneself. This is a powerful book for productively handling the inevitable bumps and knocks of the young birds flapping their wings before flying away from the nest. All parents should read this book. Highly recommended!

As a parent of 4 teenagers, I highly recommend this book
This is an excellent, comprehensive resource for raising teenagers. My wife and I have 4 teenagers and, as I read this book, I kept thinking that so much of what the author shares rings true - as I internally chuckled while reading it. The recurring suggestion of a teenager trying to ride a stallion (and thereby navigate their world despite limited experiences or knowledge) was rather fitting, while our role as parents is to guide them but to let them live, learn, make mistakes, think for themselves, and ultimately become independent. I thought the author’s suggestion that we need to “take the lead” in initiating time with them, grant them more responsibility, and keep open lines of communication were all very helpful and strategies I plan to pursue. I definitely recommend this book to all parents of teenagers.

Parenting a teen
I am raising my three grandchildren and one is a teenager, and I get frustrated with him sometimes. This book has helped me so much with some questions I had, like how you discipline them and what kind of skills do I instill in them, to live independently, when the time comes. There are many parenting skills listed in this book that will help you with your relationship with your child. Communication between you and your child is very important and also setting boundaries that you both can work with. I believe giving them chores and boundaries helps them learn about life. This is a very helpful book that i suggest anyone with a teen read.

Excellent book
As a parent of three teenage boys, this book has been a game-changer for me. Raising teenagers comes with its unique set of challenges, and this book provides an easy-to-follow guide with actionable steps to navigate this crucial phase of parenting. The book begins by addressing the uncertainties that many parents face when dealing with teenagers. It goes beyond the typical parenting advice and delves into the intricacies of transitioning from parenting children to adolescents. One of the standout features is the exploration of different parenting styles and practical insights into choosing the one that works best for raising healthy, happy young adults. What sets this guide apart is its emphasis on fostering self-awareness and independence in teenagers. It recognizes the importance of preparing them for the future and gives valuable tips on how to achieve this without becoming a barrier to their independence. I particularly appreciated the case studies that highlight real-life examples of parents who successfully implemented the strategies outlined in the book. These stories provide relatable experiences and showcase the positive impact of effective parenting during the teenage years. I highly recommend this book to fellow parents dealing with the joys and complexities of raising teenagers.

Guidance to chart the challenging course through the turbulent waters of parenting teenagers.
David Skiddy has taken on a task, with Keep Your Cool When Parenting Teens, that I would never be game enough to face. Telling people how to be parents opens one to criticism and challenge, and I was ready to be one of those. However, what I found was a very sensible explanation of the pitfalls and dangers of parenting when our perfect children become challenging and sometimes vile. He makes the subject very readable and provides the reader with real-life examples of some of the situations we may face. He offers alternatives for the scenarios and discusses the implications. I think the greatest benefit of the book is that it lets us know that we are not alone in struggling. I have never believed that you can learn to be a parent by reading about it, but this book provides guidance to help us chart the challenging course through the turbulent waters of parenting teenagers. The good news is that we do emerge out the other side eventually, and this book may help you get there sooner.
