Lore of Running : Timothy Noakes: desertcart.co.uk: Books Review: If you did check the number of pages (922) and still want to buy it, you 'll love it! - THIS IS NOT A TRAINING MANUAL! I just said what is most important about this book. It will not tell you straight away and in a few words how to train. It will tell you in excruciating detail EVERYTHING about the LORE of running. A lot of pages are devoted to things that only vaguely have to do with training, like biographies of well know runners and their training schedules, some from the beginning of the 20th century or before (hence the title: LORE of running!). You will see a lot of pages the Kenyans, clothing, shoes, famous marathons etc. Now, if you love running AND reading, this is the book for you! If you spend a lot of your time reading about running in magazines and over the internet, you are in the right place. The book is well written, informative, somber and scientific. It is a reference textbook for runners. The best of its kind! Review: Perfect timing to read is before start running as I ... - The bible for each runner. Lots of information, science, and incredible job done by Tim Noakes. When you need refresh your knowledge, always keep this book on hand and browse. Perfect timing to read is before start running as I did it as well. Prompt delivery and packaging was in excellent condition.

Comprehensive and thorough
An incredibly detailed review of almost every aspect of running, aimed at pretty serious runners. There's no quick fix, one plan for everyone included: instead, you're presented with the evidence, backed by peer reviewed publication, and encouraged to tailor a plan of training, nutrition, and racing to suit your own particular requirements. It's incredibly in depth, and impossible to read from cover-to-cover: instead it should be seen as a reference book. If you're not already a serious runner, this isn't a good introduction to the sport. If, however, you're fairly keen and looking for the information and guidance to take your running to the next level, this is the book for you.

Great book, detailed but still accessible
Incredible book. I've used it as a reference for marathon training, investigating injuries and finding out about how the body works to allow running. Very detailed but still accessible by a novice runner.

Training Thesis???
This mammoth book is more like a literature review from a thesis than a book. It simply outlines many theories and principals with little author input. If you are interested, there are pages and pages regarding the processes the body goes through while running, which is more like a biology text book. Also, this book is aimed at the long distance runner, mainly marathon plus distance with little on anything under half distance. If you are interested in general running theories, body processes, training programs of the greats or a long/untra-distance runner you will find this book useful. If like me you were looking for a training aid and generally race distances of 5k-21.1k then Daniels' Running Formula is far superior and an outstanding book in general.

This is the fourth book I get. The others were given to good runners in the way to become "serious". This book is thick, heavy, Big. It has enough pages to cover the basic and middle level of questions and facts about running physiology, psychology, great runners, training plans and much more. Certainly, many years have passed since the first edition, but this book is still present because science facts have no expiration date and our bodies remain the same. This is a "must" book for any person interested in knowing what happens in our bodies and the complex processes it sustains when we walk, run and fall exhausted. Besides that, it is written in a simple and easy style, to the point. You must know how your body works to be serious about running, you must read this book.

I bought this for my grandson after having had a copy for years during my marathon training years. Loved the science parts, very understandable and thorough. Everything you need to know for a good training program.
