AUTHORSdb 2017 Gold Medal Winner (novella) KRONOS RISING: PLAGUE is the gut-wrenching horror novella that bridges the gap between desertcart's #1 bestselling author Max Hawthorne's debut novel, Kronos Rising , and the Kronos Rising: Kraken trilogy. It's Jurassic Park meets The Walking Dead . How fast can you run? THE DEADLIEST KILLERS ARE THE ONES YOU CAN'T SEE. Three weeks have passed since the monstrous Kronosaurus imperator’s attack on Harcourt Marina stunned the world. The death toll was horrific, but Paradise Cove’s traumatized survivors soon discover they have more to worry about than just burying their dead and rebuilding their shattered lives. Accompanying the pliosaur were hordes of primeval pathogens. With their host destroyed, the Cretaceous-era bacteria are forced to find new homes for themselves. They do: tiny, bipedal life forms whose warm, iron-rich blood provides perfect growing conditions. They begin to multiply and spread, their mutagenic qualities quickly warping their unwitting host’s delicate bodies and minds. Soon, the infected are transformed into mindless beasts, consumed with a burning hunger for flesh. And like all ravening beasts, they must feed . . . If you're fans of dinosaur books for adults like Michael Crichton's Jurassic Park and Lost World, must read adventure books like Greig Beck's To the Center of the Earth series, or amazing action stories a la Steve Alten's Meg franchise, you're going to LOVE the Kronos Rising series! Review: Two good, short Kronos backstories - This book actually contained two short stories, each about 60 pages: Plague (which takes place between _Kronos Rising_ and the first _Kraken_ book) and Diablo (which takes place before all other books in the series.) Plague details some sort of disease which hits the town, while Diablo gives some history on that remote island/place. Both were fairly short and easy to read, and prepped me for the next book (the third _Kraken_ book.) They were well-written and fun, filling in backstories relevant to the main books. Review: Really well written, must read for Kronos fans. - Max Hawthorne never ceases to amaze me. His writing continues to be top notch along with story telling. Honestly the combo book of Plague and Diablo may be one of my favorites, on par with the original Kronos Rising Max delves into the world of disease and its great. I love the world he is building and hope to get some more stories like this! 8.4/10.0

familiar characters like Jake Braddock and Amara Nakamura make a welcome return
The latest embroidery on the Kronos Rising tapestry takes us in still a new direction than the previous installments, this one somewhat approaching the opening chapters of The Stand, in which a nasty plague of Biblical proportions begins with horrific consequences. The "Cretaceous Cancer" creates victims that remind this reader of the possessed Regan MacNeil in the Exorcist: diseased and twisted, insane but with a superhuman strength. Set during the events of the first KR novel, familiar characters like Jake Braddock and Amara Nakamura make a welcome return. The writing is on par with classic Stephen King and William Peter Blatty, not Harold Robbins like another tired "sea monster" series has become. I very much enjoyed this and the ending is eerily similar to real events that happened in Miami a few years back (but this was written years before). I highly recommend this worthy addition to the KR series.

This is good but short...
It ended really abruptly too...kind of expensive when you look at the following books in the series. I am stopping here

Land is no longer safe!
Wow. Beck, Lockwood and Alten could all learn a thing or two from the fresh ideas that come from the mind of the Master of Oceanic Terror. This chilling novella proves you can really get a hair raising read in a short span. Plague bridges that span between Kronos Rising and Kronos Rising Kraken (the first volume). It was great because not only did I get to see what I’d call outtakes of my favorite characters that included Jake (swoon), Amara (you go girl!) and even the pliosaur it set the stage for the nightmare to come in the next full length novels. I don’t do spoilers but let me tell you, nobody has invented zombies yet that are as scary as the creatures Max Hawthorne created for his recent books. The cover line is right. Land is no longer safe!

P.L.A.G.U.E.S. Persistent Lengthy Attacks Grow Unexpected Escaping Symptoms
The sequel to Kronos Rising and the prequel to Kronos Rising: Kraken… The inbetweener Plot: Ron, a disgruntled and grouchy paramedic soon has his work cut out for him. After a cruise-liner mysteriously loses a guest to one of the dreaded Kronosaurs’. Said guest’s fiancé is dropped off at the nearest town. She is in shock but there is also something else amiss. Soon, after biting down on Ron’s arm there is an infection spreading and a plague is commencing. Review: So basically, an aquatic take on the zombie apocalypse formula. There are certain things that happen to Ron but I don’t want to delve too far into spoiler territory. Read the book for yourself because I’m glad to say that Max has done it again! While short stories aren’t my favorite read (They’re more of a fun time passer than a story to get greatly invested in for the most part) I can say that Kronos Rising: Plague is a 70-page story that is so worth your time! This is definitely a bunch of really good ideas meshed into one awesome book. We’ve got Cabin fever with an infection that spreads through the victim’s bloodstream like wildfire! Halloween 1 and 2 what with the escaped evil mixed with the hospital setting. And there’s even some Aliens vibe that is emitted from this book with an overall force that is the main source of the problem. Now I am not saying that the author, Max Hawthorne ripped off or took inspiration from any of these ideas. Nor am I saying that this book is exactly like those four movies meshed into one because it’s not. This beast is something else entirely. Gore: While there are some disturbing gross-out moments. There isn’t much carnage to be found in this book. This is sort of a starting point of the chaos which would eventually ensue. Overall Thoughts: Kronos Rising gave readers their first taste and Kronos Rising: Plague gave us a second sample for us to try. At the end of the day it’s not just about the creatures…. It’s also about what issues these prehistoric predators can cause just by being here! Overall Rating: 4.5 out of 5 (No not a 4 out of 5 and not quite a 5 out of 5 It’s a short story that is well-written, fast paced and about halfway through carries a level of dread that weighs not only on the characters but the readers sense of hope…. Even if you’ve already read Kronos Rising: Kraken and know the outcome.

This should have been a full on novel.
I truly liked the first book and truly enjoyed this oddly original, and somewhat realistic, take on a sequel. Ultimately I believe that this could have, and most certainly should have, been made into a full blown novel and hope that the author comes back and does that someday.

This one will keep you at night
What a fantastic read. This one gave me the old school horror feels. My only complaint is that I wanted it to continue; hopefully we will see more of these characters in the future. Be sure to read Kronos Rising first; this gives you a better understand of things that happen in this book

Short book
There's more to the monster than meets the eye. This book sets the stage for something sinister waiting in the dark alley.

Totally different to book. 1
Read this mini book in a couple of hours. Nothing much to do with book 1. Very confusing. Jury still out.

Huh?
Enjoyed the first book. The prequel was not to bad and a fun read. But this book.... sorta strange ending that is not an ending? Amara apparently changed her last name back to her family one? or was this an error. Was the marina rebuilt? As no mention is made of the destruction from the first book? How long has it been? Adds characters that we are supposed to know the background of from the way they are presented but no info on them. Almost as if this was created as a short story afterthought? Reading info for next book does not seem to relate to this book other then infection? Almost wondering if other books in series written first and this just a background fill in or something. Not sure.

Filler
This is a short story set just after the first Kronos book to set the background for the rest of the series. Quick to read it covers the initial pleasure outbreak. Not originally published it was the author's own internal continuity notes.

Hmmm not sure about the last 2 additions to the series as imo both rather short and whilst the 1st stays true to the series this takes it in a new direction with the infected taking the limelight. Being a bit of a paleo fiction fan im interested in the sea creatures so ill have to see the length of the next book and where it goes....all that said its a decent if shirt read
