Why can't this be dryed in a dryer?

It is recommended to hang dry. I put mine in the dryer on a low setting and it came out fine.

Does this start pilling on the back?

Mine has not pilled it’s very good quality

Does it work well with a flat sheet in between the blanket?

The blanket is a silk like texture on one side. If your looking for the full cooling experience I would recommend having the flat sheet on top of the cooling blanket instead of in between.

Why does this have to be washed first?

I always wash new sheets and blankets first it’s just sanitary and also some blankets and sheets come with a substance that makes it more crisp not sure if this one has it but I would still wash it for sanitary purposes
