Are the holes large enough to take 5mm shock cord please?

Holes are stated as being 6mm; I used 4 or 5mm paracord with no issues, but did heat seal (= burn!) the ends to make firm to insert etc. Hope that helps.

Do pieces separate for mounting on existing cord loop?

Hi there They are *not* designed to come apart, but they can if you use reasonable force. More importantly though is that they are not suitable for mounting on a closed loop as they are seperate solid holes (if you see what I mean!) and suitable for putting on the ends of a cord, for example. Hope that helps!

Is the spring stainless? (So can use for swimming wear)

This item does have a spring that is stainless, I have used it on my medical scrubs for work
