Glad I bought it
Just received this watch in the mail today, so I reserve the right to revisit this 5-star review. For present purposes, I just wanted to provide my initial thoughts while they're still fresh in my mind. When I opened the box (original, with papers), I was initially disappointed upon seeing what appeared to be the days of the week written in Arabic. Nevertheless, I decided I liked the watch otherwise and was going to give it a shot (and replace the strap, which I purchased separately). So glad I did. After spending about a minute reading the manual, I figured out that this Japanese version of the 009 is "bi-lingual." It can display either Arabic (I think) or English. Needless to say, I opted for the English, and my satisfaction level grew exponentially. As far as its looks and feel, it is about what I expected. I'm a male with a medium sized wrist (probably 6.5 inches or so) and this watch fits just right. If you're a guy who likes a big watch, this one is not for you and it might seem disappointingly small. It wears and looks like a 40mm watch, for what it's worth. The fit and finish appear to be in good order so far. Upon first glance, the stainless steel almost had the look of chrome (shiny), but I warmed up to it quickly. The uni-directional bezel moves precisely (120 clicks per revolution, which is nice). My one minor complaint is that the knurl of the bezel seemed a bit slippery; not especially so, but that was my first impression anyway. The last thing I wanted to mention is that, before I even tried it on, I took off the stock rubber (silicon?) band. It's not my taste at all, but I suppose someone who is using this watch for serious diving might think differently. Instead, I replaced it immediately with a navy-red 22mm NATO strap (for about $14 on Amazon), which looks terrific on this watch -- I initially worried that the navy would be too bright compared to the midnight blue face. Altogether, this feels like a very solid watch that seems like a good buy in the $200-250 range. So far, it appears to be keeping excellent time (but it's only been several hours since I've had it) and I've had no issues with the crown, etc. For what it's worth, I'll mention that others have said this (Japanese) version is superior to the Chinese version -- and costs a bit more too. I can't say whether this premium is warranted, but I thought I'd repeat it in case this might be something that is important to you (one way or the other). As I said before, if my initial impressions change, I'll be glad to update my review.

Great looking, iconic Seiko divers watch
This 200M WR diver is a great watch. This version, SKX009J1 is the dark blue dial (blue/black) with "Pepsi" bezel (blue and red) and "Made in Japan". It is a classic powered by the reliable Japanese movement 7S26. This watch has perfectly aligned minute markers in the dial with those in the bezel. The hour dots and triangle (at noon) perfetly align with the respective minute markers in the dial and the numbers in the bezel. I mention this because in some websites there are complaints about misalignments. I wonder if the misalignments arise more frequently in the NON-japanese versions (i.e. ending K1 or K2) instead of the japanese versions (ending J1 or J2). The watch is more beautiful in person than the marketing pictures show. It is 42 mm wide (not counting the crown). My wrist is about 7.5 inches wide and the watch looks just great (see attached pictures). By the way the crown is screwed down: You have to rotate it anti-clockwise to make it move out one notch; after this, you may pull it once very slightly to move it another notch so you get to the crown level where you can adjust the day in one direction and the date in the other direction. After this is done, you may pull the crown again very slightly to get it into the final level where you can move the hands one direction or the other. Once you are set. You should push down the crown twice and at this level you screw down the crown rotating it clockwise while pressing it against the case. I decided to buy a stainless steel bracelet for this watch so I bought the 22 mm Super Oyster II Bracelet (curved end), which is a very nice, solid looking bracelet, for about $67.49 including shipping from Strapcode (the vendor in Amazon). To take the rubber strap off and to put and adjust the size of the Super Oyster bracelet, you need to watch a Youtube video (don't try without the video as you may mark or scratch the watch). Taking the rubber strap, adjustiing the size of the stainless steel and placing it to the watch requires some skill and having some basic watch tools (it took me longer than other watches). A good time to buy relatively inexpensive watch tools if you don't have them, or else take the watch and the steel bracelet to a watch store and ask them to change the strap and resize it for you. I am very happy with my purchase of this classic Seiko divers watch and with both the seller of the watch (Watchsavings) and the seller of the steel bracelet (Strapcode).

Rugged workhorse that brings back memories...
Love this watch. I have come to accept that product placement does impact some of my buying decisions; especially in action movies. I saw this workhorse in the movie 'All is Lost' (although there is some dispute as to the Japanese/American model) and knew that I had to have it. It took me back to the first watch that I bought to SCUBA dive with in the military, albeit a slightly different Seiko model (wish I never parted with it). I decided to go with the Japanese model SKX009J1 for personal reasons as I wanted a Seiko watch made in Japan and was willing to pay a little more to have it in my collection. I am self aware enough to know that I would have regretted my purchase if I didn't. You may not feel the same as I do and that is fine, as in my research I did not read of any significant differences reported in the appearance, or quality, between the models produced in other countries. The watch has proved to be accurate, I love the contrasting navy blue, red and black colors and it is a very comfortably sized watch for my wrist. Whereas some don't like the rubber band, I prefer it for dive watches that I will actually use in the water; especially on this dive watch. The band has a rugged look with thick dimensions that provide a pleasing balance with the case when worn. The crown located at the 4 o'clock position adds a unique look and is somewhat more comfortable to operate than my other watches at the 3 o'clock position. The vendor followed thru and sent the watch quickly as promised and in beautiful working condition. I have zero regrets and hope to get many reliable years of use out of it. If you pull the trigger, I believe that you will be as happy as I am to have it in your collection, or as your 'one and only'.

couldn't be happier with the watch...great beginner automatic watch
I'm just starting out on the automatic watch collection, so I wanted to start at the lower level of the scale. I did a lot of research and it really appealed to me that Seiko make everything in house. I also wanted to pay the extra premium to get the SKX009J model that is made in Japan. I was a little hesitant because I'd read some horror stories online relating to poor watches being sold with defective bezels and other issues. I'm no expert but when the watch arrived I inspected it very closely and couldn’t see anything wrong with it at all, it seems just as described a new Seiko watch, without any noticeable defects. I set the time and date have been wearing it during the last 4/5 days (during the day) and it’s been running great and I haven’t had to adjust the time at all. Package arrived on time the box it arrived in looked more like a wholesale box, but it has the Seiko label on it and I’m not interested in the box as long as the watch was as described, but if it is important to you to have a better looking box, perhaps they wouldn’t be happy with it (posted a pic). Everything I read about Seiko and the 009 watch is true, it’s a great looking watch, if it continues to operate the way it is at the moment, I think it’s well worth the money I paid ($270). I could have gotten it from other sellers online, but I’m a frequent Amazon buyer and trust them and have faith that if the watch had any issues they would deal with my concerns, as they have done in the past, so again was willing to pay a premium for that service.

Pleasantly Surprised - Part II
Original post- I was skeptical about buying watch online due to being burned by previous vendors (non-Amazon). I'm happy to report watch is exactly as described. Although I'm not an expert, I believe product to be authentic. It looks great, accurate, and a good price. I've been wearing watch daily for past 7 days. Will report back if any issues. Follow up - I've owned this watch for about 6 months and it keeps time extremely well (when wearing it) and very good looking watch. It was a little tricky at first figuring out how to adjust the day/date. The rubber band that comes with watch is comfortable yet oversized so gives the watch a solid feel. Overall the weight of the watch is on the heavy side but you can immediately tell it's of quality work - not too heavy. I've owned other dive watches with a bezel and was concerned it would be too tight or too lose, and on this model it's neither of those. So far, it's been a fantastic time piece for the money.

Beautiful Diver Watch
Fantastic time piece! Looks even better in person than any of the pictures can really illustrate (mine included). It has a premium feel, nice and hefty, yet not overly bulky (I have a 7.25" wrist), and keeps excellent time. I have had no major issues with it losing/gaining time, the +/- 4 sec per day seems to be accurate, as others have commented. Be sure to spend the extra $30-$40 USD to get the J version instead of the K. It will be taking over as my daily driver from my fairly old Bulova. I bought this watch along with the 4 pack of CIVO 22mm Nato straps (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073QGQCNV/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1), all of which look amazing. Nato for the summer and stainless steel / rubber for the rest! Can't go wrong with this thing. P.S. - For those unaware of the language options, the J version has Arabic / English day options, so don't be shocked if it comes out of the box showing Arabic in the day/date window. Just adjust to English following the included instructions. Pros: Has a premium manufacturing feel Accurate time keeping Classic pepsi color scheme Not overly big at 41mm (I've seen others mention 42mm but I measured 41mm, in any case not terribly big) Cons: Rubber band is a little stiff and a tad bit on the bulky side. Box was a bit disheveled when it came. Watch was packed in the box upside down (no scratches luckily)

Cool watch but with some annoying flaws
Update: 2 months after purchase and the movement broke. It would works for a few minutes after shaking and then stops again. Funny enough this only happens if I leave it on the watch winder. I guess some parts in movement just "touch" others at certain angle. I contacted both Amazon and the seller (who referred back to Amazon) and Seiko only to find that the watch only has warranty in Japan (if any at all). The Asurion insurance info that included in the watch box is not valid anymore as Amazon stopped using Asurion from Oct 2018. Thus, I think the warranty on the watch should be disclosed more explicitly. Overall, Amazon came up with an ok solution for me so I'm still happy but the watch deserves zero star. Knowing Seiko I believe I'm just one of a few unlucky customers but nonetheless, I'll avoid buying watches with the same movement from now on. The watch looks amazing. The quality is great for the price as well. But you cant deny that its a cheap watch and the details show. The most annoying thing is the lug bar. Seiko chose the cheapest but toughest bar so it is pretty much impossible to pull out to change the equally ugly but durable rubber strap. Took me 30’ and a lot of energy to finally pull it out. Another bothering thing to me is the crown. It is very flimsy once you unscrew it.

Great reasonably priced watch
I've owned this watch for over 2 years. I love automatic watches. (I own an Omega Aqua Terra, 2 additional Seiko automatics, a Mido, and a Raymond Weil.) This is my day to day watch. It gets out of the drawer more often than any other. I love the way it looks, feels, and keeps time. I replaced the band with BluShark straps. (I have 3 of various colors.) They are inexpensive, easy to swap, and really set this watch off. I get more comments on this watch than the rest of my collection combined. The one caution that I have is that it is an automatic. If you don't wear it every day it will stop. Some people find this incredibly annoying. For those people, I suggest a quartz watch. If you are looking for a reasonably priced automatic watch with a distinct presence, look no further.

Great watch
Got mine two weeks ago. Quick response and delivery from the seller. It's at +5 seconds per day out of the box, looks amazing and feels very well built.

Pienamente soddisfatto dell'acquisto
