Does What It Says (ChromeOS review)
My Toshiba Satellite L-550 Pro laptop was ready for the e-waste shelf. I had the hard drive replaced back in 2015, so I wanted to take that out, as well as the RAM, before I dropped it at Curry's. Anyhow, the hard drive is the ol' Western Digital Black 500GB (WD5000LPLX). It has a 2.5-inch (Slim 7mm profile) form factor. The interface is SATA III. It is a little fiddly to get the drive in and slide it down, but once it clicks, you are confident it is inserted correctly. There is nothing to it. Remove the case top by sliding up and then lifting. Very easy to open. Plug in the included USB-A, turn it on, and it is plug and play. The Chromebox recognised the drive immediately. It was formatted into exFAT in less than a second. I did some file transfers and they were quick enough for me. I have no idea what speeds. I did transfer a couple gigs though. Now, I have a good external drive. The box says it is Windows and Mac compatible, but it works fine on a Chomebox, Chromebook whatever Chrome device you may have. Good, inexpensive purchase. Saves you from having to destroy a hard drive. The average person isn't capable of wiping it.

Works great!
I bought this to be able to connect an SSD to my Nintendo Wii, but I will likely be buying another one of these to use with another HDD or SSD to create a portable hard drive in the future. I've used Sabrent products before, and I've always been impressed with how intuitive their products are and how easy they are to use. In the box there are some instructions along with the enclosure and a USB 3.0 A male-to-male cable. The enclosure is designed for 2.5" inch drives, and it's quite straightforward to fit the drive inside the enclosure. While the enclosure is mostly plastic, it feels very well-made and would offer some protection to the drive inside. The speed of the enclosure is going to vary greatly depending on the drive you have inside it, along with the system you are connecting it to, but I got the levels of performance I expected during my usage with the enclosure having virtually no negative impact on speeds. Overall, this is a great, affordable enclosure that can be used for various tasks. I look forward to using the one I currently have more going forward, but I feel like I will be purchasing an additional one shortly. Update - July 2024: I ended up ordering another one for my PS5, as I had a 1TB SATA SSD lying around that I wanted to use with the console, as I was running out of storage. Similarly to last time, the enclosure is working exactly as expected and works well enough to store more modern games on it without any noticeable performance loss. As a general rule of thumb, these enclosures are only as good as what you put in them, as well as other limitations such as the device it’s connected to. Once again, I'm more than happy with the result.

Reasonably priced and functional.
Admittedly these days it is hard to figure out which brands are "real" and which are just white label products without sufficient QA. Some of the reliable brands that used to sell HDD enclosures are gone. However this is the second time I have bought a Sabrent adapter and I think last time was several years ago and I couldn't remember where I put it. It's pretty handy if you have various old disks lying around given the price of storage these days backing up files is getting pricey. Fitting the hard drive requires some caution there isn't much give or wiggle room. You may want to pad the bottom of drive if you intend to use the enclosure permanently as it is press fit/tool-less. It does seem like the cable might be proprietary, I couldn't use a different cable from another hard drive. My guess would be this is due to power requirements or the fact it was a hard drive and not an SDD. For a mechanical hard drives this seems fine I have not tested it with the increasingly rare SATA SSDs it is plastic and has no heatsink. This should probably be fine but something to be aware of. Use it on hard surface like a desk and I don't think it would be a problem. Sure it isn't a showstopper in terms of appearance or aesthetics but it is functional and not overly designed. Some of the other enclosures in a bit to look like they didn't cost pennies to make look worse than this one.

SABRENT SSD Enclosure, Hard Drive Enclosure
Very happy with this. I work in IT have found this a good reliable case for an SSD. Fit it secure and tight and does not rattle around. No screws required. Nice blue light on top to show active. On rear is an on / off slider which allows you to leave it plugged in but off. Performance is excellent. Case seems robust. Would recommend and buy again.

Gets job done easily for a cheaper price than competitors at a higher rate.
IF YOU FIND THIS REVIEW HELPFUL PLEASE LET ME KNOW BY PRESSING THE HELPFUL BUTTON BELOW. The product "Sabrent Hard Disk Drive Enclosure" is a perfect example of how there are many products that are expensive, but with some time and patience, one can find similar products for a cheaper price. Now, often you might not want to buy the cheaper version of a product, as they are often worse in quality. The Sabrent enclosure for your hard drive has many purposes. One purpose, the one which I purchased it for, was to recover data from a damaged laptop, but the hard drive was fine. You can also use it to connect a hard drive to your PC to use for backups. It can also make the hard drive work exactly like a USB. The case slides open and the lid comes off. You can also prop up the lid on the side of the case as I show in picture 4. There is an on/off switch on top which isn't much use to me. The button turns off the power to the enclosure and it turns off, not showing up on the computer anymore. You can just unplug it from your device if not wanting to use it, but be sure to eject the hard drive first. If the hard drive doesn't show up, It is likely a problem with your hard drive and not the enclosure. I tested this with different hard drives. The broken hard drives would often not show up, while the perfectly fine hard drives worked fine. The case is very easy to use. Just open the lid of the enclosure and plug in the hard drive to the hard drive connector pins. Plug the USB into the enclosure on one side, and into your pc or mac on the other side. I have tested the enclosure with Windows, Mac, and Linux. It performs perfectly well with all three. I would definitely recommend this product for you if you need to connect your hard drive some way to a computer. I have also installed windows using this on a PC. You can also use it to open up the pc which the hard drive was using to recover data if the PC breaks. You will just require another computer. Pros: - It is very lightweight - Requires no additional software, shows up as a USB - Easy to use - Helps get data on and off the hard drive. Cons: - The wire is a bit short - The LED can be a bit annoying at times. - Otherwise no issues. Final Verdict: This enclosure is perfectly well priced. I recommend you buy it if you need some way to connect your hard drive to a computer, whether it's for backups or data recovery, it will be the solution.
