An Incredibly Compact Yet Powerful Oscillating Tool That Showcases the Best of Bosch's 12V Platform
Bosch has become my favorite power tool brand, and over the past few years I have been gradually building my collection of their 12V lineup. What makes this platform so appealing is the balance it strikes between portability, ergonomics, and performance and price. While the smaller batteries don't offer the runtime of larger 18V systems, they are lightweight, quick to swap, and more than capable for most DIY projects. This oscillating multi-tool had been on my wish list for quite some time, and I finally picked it up during Amazon Prime Day 2026. I also own a corded Dremel oscillating tool (another Bosch brand), which has served me well, but it is noticeably larger and heavier. As a DIY enthusiast rather than a professional contractor, I wanted something more compact and maneuverable, and this tool fit that need perfectly. The first thing that impressed me was how incredibly lightweight it is. Even with the battery installed, it feels remarkably balanced and comfortable in the hand. That reduced weight makes a huge difference during detailed work, allowing for much better control and significantly less fatigue. Bosch's blade-changing mechanism is simple and quick, making accessory swaps easy. The tool includes a general-purpose blade to get you started, while Bosch offers a wide variety of specialized blades for wood, metal, drywall, grout, and other materials that can be purchased separately. What surprised me most was the performance. Despite its compact size, the cutting power is outstanding. On the highest speed setting, it delivered performance that felt comparable to my much larger corded Dremel oscillating tool. I have already completed two home projects with it, and the combination of power, precision, and maneuverability made the work much easier than expected. This is clearly a premium-quality tool. For professionals who use an oscillating tool continuously throughout the day, Bosch's 18V platform may be the better choice because it offers greater runtime. While larger batteries are available for the 12V platform, adding a much bigger battery starts to defeat the purpose of such a compact and lightweight system. For homeowners, DIY enthusiasts, and hobbyists, however, I think the 12V platform hits the sweet spot. Overall, I am extremely impressed with this oscillating tool. It delivers exceptional control, impressive cutting power, outstanding build quality, and the portability that makes Bosch's 12V lineup so enjoyable to use. If you're looking for a premium oscillating multi-tool for DIY projects, repairs, and everyday workshop tasks, I highly recommend this one. It has quickly become one of my favorite tools in my collection.

Cordless Chisel Power in a Small Starlock Package
When it comes to oscillating multi-tools, no company seems to do it better than Bosch. This tool was purchased as a compliment to the Bosch GOP18V-28N for mostly light-duty jobs that require a more precise degree of control that is difficult to achieve with the larger, heavier 18V version. It's not only appreciably smaller, but weighs around 2 lb (w/ battery), or about half that of the Bosch 18V brushless multi-tool. And this tool does not disappoint with its smooth operation; vibrations (at the grip) are practically non-existent even at the highest speed setting. While there are many 12V multi-tools available from other manufacturers, this is the only one that currently offers a brushless motor, so output power and battery life should be somewhat better than competing models. Although the blade change process is not tool-less like it's larger 18V cousins, it's relatively quick since a built-in magnet holds the attachment in position while threading the screw and tightening with the furnished wrench. Bosch probably opted to use a simple fastening screw due to size and weight considerations, instead of the blade change lever found on their other Starlock models. The only downside here is that there is no onboard storage for the hex key. My only complaint is that Bosch does not offer this tool as a complete kit with batteries and charger as it does for its other 12V tools, such as drills and impact drivers. Highly recommended. especially for light-duty tasks or situations where precise blade control is important.

Good 12v multitool
After a few days of use the product so far is 5/5. If you are wanting a solid multi tool and already have Bosch 12v batteries this is a good option. (Batteries are not included with this item). However, in my case while it arrived in a box that looked new, the multitool itself appeared lightly dirty, as if it had been used once and returned or refurbished and resold. It is also possible dirt somehow got into the packaging or the production floor was slightly dirtier… just odd. It’s a tool so it was going to get dirty anyways, but if it is not new it should be labeled as such. Overall, I’d recommend this multi tool to someone that wants a solid, good value lightweight tool that runs on the 12v battery family. 18v would last longer and has more power but this should be good enough for the majority of DIYers or for construction not overly reliant on this specific tool.

Star-lock attachments are pricey! No adapters available, that I could find.
I should have paid closer attention to which style attachment would work with this tool. I have a corded Porter Cable Mutli-Tool, and a ton of blades for it, but I needed a cordless Multi-tool. I bought my Porter years and years ago, and didn't know anything about the Star-lock system. I bought this one, since I already have several compatible batteries for it, and have been happy with by other Bosch cordless tools. It's still a quality tool, but I'm only giving it 4 stars since it seems a bit under powered, and the star lock attachments are so expensive. AND, because it appears that Bosch may have gone after people that made adapters that would allow you to use the less expensive attachments. Just sad Bosch.

Perfect for the DIY Homeowner
After watching the contractors use multi-tools during my remodel, I knew I needed one. I have both Milwaukee M18 and Bosch 12V Max power tools so could have gone with a Milwaukee but decided on the Bosch instead because it's a lot lighter which is perfect for my occasional use cutting drywall or trimming studs to set electrical boxes and flush cutting nails I can't get out. The plunge cut blade gets the most use although I did buy a hybrid blade to make longer cuts in drywall. The thin blade kerf is nice and the variable speed control makes this a very easy tool to use. If I were a working pro and was using this daily, I might opt for the Milwaukee.

Comes with lots of compromises
I gave this an overall 3 star rating, but would give it 4 stars for those falling into a very specific category, such as myself, but only 2 stars for the general buying public. I just received this and am very happy with unit so far, but it comes with lots of compromises that potential buyers should be aware of. I would only recommend it for people already invested the the Bosch 12 volt system. I knew all of this before I ordered it, so there were no surprises for me. I already have the Bosch 12 volt drill and driver and love both for their small size and light weight (senior citizen with smaller hands), so this seemed a good fit for me. I have 4 of the 12 volt batteries, so I didn't need any more and the bare tool was attractively priced. I have an older Bosch corded oscillating tool but it is a little heavy and cumbersome for me to use. This one is smaller, lighter and cordless. It should have plenty of power for shorter jobs. Now the compromises. It doesn't have a quick release blade holder that many other cordless units have which is a real bonus for heavy users. It use proprietary blades which are about 50-100% more expensive than standard blades. Costs for these blades could be an issue for heavy users. The blades can only be mounted one way (which allows for flush cuts) whereas other units allow them to be flipped. Finally a 12 volt system isn't likely to provide the power that an 18-20 volt system does. So for those already invested in the Bosch 12 volt system who want a smaller, lighter cordless oscillating tool, this is a good purchase. For those starting from scratch with cordless tools or who want a heavy duty unit it would be best to look elsewhere. Bosch makes good tools and I anticipate this will perform well. If not, I will do a follow-up report.

Add this multitool to your kit
I like the Starlock tool selection that this particular Bosch oscillating multi-tool offers. The same Bosch tool kit that you will probably purchase also fits Fein and other oscillating tools, so you are not stuck, and the cost of the kit builds quickly. How do I use the Bosch multi-tool? First of all, when I started woodworking over 50 years ago, there was no such tool available. However, now there are many to choose from. Recently I have been doing a kitchen alteration, room addition and hardwood floor installation. I selected the Bosch 12 V oscillating tool from the competitors because I discovered it is light weight (including battery), essentially vibration free (wearing gloves) and cuts nails like a champ. So far so good.

Fantastic
Added to my collection of great tools. I have been very happy with the 12v line. I purchased these to reduce the weight and strain on my shoulders. The 18v add a great deal of strain. It’s the repetitive weight baring that is too much for the body. 12v less weight less strain. The new starlock is a pain cause now I had to buy an adapter for all the blades I have. Bosch should include an adapter for less hassle.

Gutes Gerät
Werkzeugwechsel etwas umständlich mit Innensechskant, sonst top. Meine alte Fein mit Kabel bleibt nur noch für längere Einsätze.
