I really liked that this unit had two separate temperature probes- this way I could keep an eye on the freezer and the fridge also which has a habit of getting too cold occasionally and freezing perishables. First off, I received the unit and after inserting batteries had it working in a few minutes. I put one probe into the fridge and one in the freezer- they have rather powerful spring loaded hooks so I attached them inside the doors. It took maybe an hour for the probes to accurately read the internal temps. Then I read the instructions further to set up the temp warning alarms, that’s when it got confusing. Regardless of the temperature I set for the min and max temp the display would revert to (what I thought) was an arbitrary number, never the number I punched in. I went so far as contacting customer service and they sent me a replacement unit. Same problem it seemed. And then I looked deeper into the situation and noticed that the min and max displays changed as the temp being recorded changed. When I took a probe out and left it on the counter the max display moved up as the temp moved up- until the high temp warning that I set earlier was reached and the unit started squealing! Stay with me here- I realized that I wouldn’t see the number that I programmed into it until it reached that temp. The display instead shows whatever temps it has reached - high and low - until it hits the number you have set for the warning. The instructions are very rudimentary and say nothing of this, so it was trial and error. Suffice to say now it’s been figured out, and I feel more secure monitoring the temps of my fridge. I’ve been using this for almost a month on the first set of batteries and have not had any battery issues using fresh alkalines.
