Can this be connected to a soil moisture sensor?

I doubt it - there doesn’t seem to be anything in the manual or any means to connect additional sensors. It does use recent rain information though

Can you create different watering zones? What else would I need to buy!?

This is a 1-zone water timer, so you will need to buy G2S add-ons if more than one zone need to be watered. One LinnkTap gateway can control 15 water timers. You don't need to buy anything other than 4 AA alkaline batteries.

Is the d1 dual zone product exactly the sames as the g2s single zone product - other than having two zones. or is g2s superior?

Simply put, one D1=two G2S. There are some subtle differences between them. They both use 4AA batteries; the battery in the G2S lasts 2 years, while the battery in the D1 lasts 1.5 years. The maximum number of watering slots per watering plan is 100 in G2S and 50 per zone in D1.

Will this keep a running total of water used?

The system stores the watering history of the past 90 days. Users can also download and save the watering history data to local storage if needed.
