Excellent once setup.
Great budget guitar. This is my guitar No.11, bought for keeping in the lounge. I own a Gibson, Fenders, PRS etc. The only thing I'll say is it was in need of TLC when it arrived. I've polished the frets, changed the strings, conditioned the fretboard, lowered the action and lubed and slightly changed the cut of the nut (one sticking string). The amp allows you to hear the guitar and it's passable I suppose but I'm never gonna use it. The only issue left is that the grub screws on the saddles are rough and too long, once the action is lowered they protrude too much. Great for the price. The problem really would be that a real beginner won't do any of the above to make it great. That said, I've never yet bought a guitar perfectly setup to my liking. It won't replace any of my other guitars but it now plays and sounds great. Oh, and forget using the trem but that's again true of pretty much all budget guitars with a trem.

I think I made the right choice
Having played a bit with a ukulele over the past three years, I wanted something with a wider range of sounds and decided to try an electric guitar, although I have not even played an acoustic guitar previously. But what to buy? My thanks go to YouTube and GCH Guitar Academy whose reviews on the Donner DST-100 and DST-152 convinced me that the Donner beginner’s package would be a sound choice. My thanks also to Woodsnstrings whose comparison tests of the three Donner models persuaded me that the mid-range DST-152 was the one to go for, and that was finally decided when Amazon knocked a further £25 off the asking price. So I committed. I was pleased to find that the guitar arrived in a box that was well protected against damage to each end and that the guitar was also packed within its padded gig bag. With the bag unzipped, it lay gleaming ice-blue waiting to be picked up and examined and no damage found. In fact the overall finish is as good as suggested by the reviews. I was a little surprised how heavy it is but, of course, it’s all solid wood. With the added confidence from Gear4music Guitars YouTube advice on setting up an electric guitar, I was able to tune it up, plug it into the amplifier and hear the first real sounds. The amplifier isn’t brilliant but perfectly good for learning at home. Soon I was twiddling all the knobs to explore its range and find the sounds that I prefer. I even removed a spring from behind the rear cover to give some flexibility to the whammy bar and eased the neck to lose a bit of fret buzz. I could never have done this without guidance from the You Tube subscribers and I recommend anyone else contemplating such a purchase to also do their homework first. I cannot comment on behalf of experienced players but I am really happy. It looks good and it sounds good. I think it was the right buy and now it’s up to me to get all the notes in the right order!

Excellent guitar and definitely not budget in standard
The positive hype is definitely justified re the Donner dst 152. This is an excellent guitar for a ridiculously low price! I've been playing guitar for 50 years so have some practical experience of what constitutes a good guitar! Try one, you definitely won't be disappointed.

Daughter loves her guitar
For a first guitar it's really good. My daughter absolutely loves it. Sounds good as well, the amp is easy to carry around and play.

Value for money
Minor cosmetic defects and importantly coil split pick ups aren’t working. Tremolo system spring screws at back side were not screwed properly. Need to set up, nut, tuning pegs and strings are made with very poor quality, I need to change them with new ones. Can’t complain much considering the price I have paid for the whole set. Great for beginners and considering the costs it’s a win win for beginners like me because the bundle comes with little practice amplifier + amp cable + Guitar gig bag and many more items but these three are not offered by squire or any other brands on the internet although squires are now made in China which is of same quality. This is my first Chinese made guitar and I would highly recommend to beginners and intermediate players to buy this guitar online and do little DIY setup with better quality strings, Bone Nut and Tuning Pegs and your guitar sounds like Fender Stratocaster. Honestly speaking, shop owners don’t tell you the truth and charge £50 for set up wether we buy Fender Stratocasters or any other electric guitars which in my opinion, could easily be done DIY by watching online videos. I will give this seller a 5* for great value for money. Many of us relay on online reviews and therefore I thought to give my honest opinion for other customers. These are my honest opinions and I’m not paid by seller or anyone.

Not for beginners
So I've dabbled with guitars for 30+ years ...you might say I've been around the block. So I watched the rave reviews on your tube....my cynicism kicked in & I doubted very much that the guitar would live up to the billing. I wasn't wrong. Truthfully, I bought this guitar for the body (I'm a sucker for light blue metallic guitars & you'll pay £500+ for a used Fender in this same colour)...in other words, I went into the transaction knowing this would be a donor body to mod. So what's good about the guitar? The body...it's made of poplar, has a reasonable weight to it (so no neck sag due to the neck being heavier than the body & it winning in the battle of gravity The finish - whilst not a top paintjob, it's good. The fingerboard...a lovely deep colour...bordering on Ebony colour (I despise the new sustainable wood that brands like fender have used...Pau Ferro - yuk) The pickups - no surprises here ...I've yet to hear a bad single coil pickup - yes, they are ceramic, but they have that glassy strat 'chime' (instant Knopfler). Sure, I know everyone will say to change the pickups, but believe me, there's a lot of snake oil beijg sold when it comes to pickups. They aren't Alnico (which have a brighter sound to them), but where was Alnico back in the day? (in other words, we all grew up listening to guitarists with ceramic pickups...they're fine) So what's bad? The bridge...possibly the most woeful bridge I've seen on a guitar (& I've seen a few), the trem spring screws were tightened soooo much the tremolo wouldn't budge. Once I loosed the screws off to allow the tremolo to do it's thing, there was soo much play...and I mean LOTS of play...awful, just awful. The tuners (machine heads)...terrible (nasty) There were some jagged edges on the frets, which cut into the palm of your left hand as you thrash out a solo....can be sorted, but I shouldn't have to. There was also some corrosion/pitting of a few of the frets in the upper register...again, not a big job to remedy...but seriously? For a new guitar? So a mixed bag....if you know what you're doing & don't mind swapping out the bridge & tuners & get busy with a file on the jagged fret ends, then you'll end up with a decent looking & decent playing guitar. But if you're not comfortable doing this kind of work, I'd say push out the bit & spend a little bit more on something like a Yamaha Pacifica 112 (no affiliation...I just know that Yamaha's QC is good ...and their choice of hardware far superior. (the supplied accessories look good on paper, but frankly pretty woeful in reality - for example a gig bag that sounds of crumpled paper when it moves?!!! The outer material is soooo thin, it only has one side to it ;-)

Great for beginners
This guitar is a great guitar for beginners. It didn’t come with the tuner which was disappointing but was overall good. The set up was fairly easy but I personally struggled getting the amp to work as someone who has never used an electric guitar and the lead provided broke within the first month of having it. I would recommend getting separate amp as the provided one isn’t particularly good.
