Still working well after 5 years
Been using this for 5 full years now coupled with a TP-Link router and both are still working well. Achieves the speed it is intended to and connection has been reliable. Getting ready to upgrade both to versions that handle higher speeds and intend to buy the same brand for both as well.

Delivery was excellent
The modem arrived early, it worked perfectly after a call to COX, telling me to contact NETGEAR, because it was a modem issue is why it would not connect to my desktop or router. Netgear said it was my router, wrong. The next day a COX tech spent 4 hours at my home. He left telling me that I needed a new router and the internet to my desktop worked on some sites, did not work on other sites at all. For any COX internet customers, once you connect this modem, or any other brand, you HAVE to call the COX Sales department to have it activated, I repeat, call Sales. Also, I use Windows 10, you absolutely have to be logged in as the administrator, That is what I did, my desktop connected to the internet and I then connected the modem to my router and my desktop from the router and the modem has worked perfectly since then. I would buy from the Seller again, without a 2nd thought, I couldn't be any happier with their service. The modem has been an excellent buy and I am happy that I purchased it.

Advertised speed at an affordable price
Hoo boy was getting a new modem way more complicated than I remember. After lots of shopping around I finally settled on this Netgear model and I'm glad I did. It takes full advantage of my newly increased speed. It's high quality and settles nicely into the background of my home network setup; no bright colors, weird shapes, or huge footprint to make it stand out and pull your eye away from the TV it lives nearby. Setup was a breeze (don't forget to contact your provider to register the new device like I did for a little bit...) and it comes with all the controls, security, and functions you'd expect from a modem. According to my tests it's also pulling data at the advertised speed. The slim, upright design means it can slot into tight spaces or be hidden behind something if you don't want to see the indicator lights all the time; as a control freak, I prefer to make sure I can see them at all times, but for some they're just a distraction. This was a great upgrade over my old modem, and it has some overhead should I get another bump in internet speed. I won't have to run around again trying to find something to fully tap what my plan has to offer, trying to sift through all the other options that cost well over 100 dollars when all I need is basic functionality that won't empty my bank account. Oh, I'm also with Comcast so I can confirm it works with their network. I used the Live Chat function on the Xfinity website to register the new modem and it went surprisingly well. Just make sure you make note of the various numbers on the bottom of the modem to give to the agent to make the process as seamless as possible.

Works with xfinity (2026)
If xfinity claims it’s not compatible, that’s flat out wrong. Use their customer service chat and they will activate. It’s been working as intended :)

Since the router gave excellent service, decided to go with Netgear for the ...
I have been using a Netgear router and Motorola modem for several years with no problems. In order to take advantage of the internet speed I'm paying for, decided to upgrade my modem. Since the router gave excellent service, decided to go with Netgear for the modem. And, Comcast stated this one was supported, so I ordered it. I disconnected the router and wired the new modem directly to my desktop. It literally installed itself when Comcast detected I was installing a new device. With my older modem, it required a phone call and you had to supply the modem's SN and MAC address so they could configure things on their end. OK, now the fun part. You'd think the next step would simply plug in the router the same way as the old one and it would work, right? No such luck. I followed Netgear's instructions to the letter and it still wouldn't connect to the net. I called Comcast for a bit of technical help. They said all was well on their end but it may be a communication problem between the modem/router connection. Here's where it gets interesting.... I go to Netgear's web page and register the modem. Then, I called their toll free technical support number. I was connected to a call center in India. I could barely understand the person to whom I was talking and realized I was in for an ordeal. As so many others have said, their tech help/support is a total scam. Even though you have a brand new product, they refuse to do a blessed thing for you unless you pay a certain fee. In my case, they wanted $139!! Let's do the math.. the modem was $79.99 and they wanted almost twice as much to give me a bit of support?? I laughed until I cried before hanging up on them. If this is how Netgear operates, I hope they go out of business and never heard from again. Their whole business model is a scam, a fraud, and probably illegal. It wasn't until after the fact that I did a bit of research on them other than the reviews here. Google "Netgear Customer Service" to see how this company operates. True, your product may work wonderfully (as did my router) but reading what they tried pulling on others literally made me sick to my stomach. You can be sure of this- I will never buy another Netgear product because of the sour taste this experience left in my mouth.

Fine Cable Modem
A bit disappointing that it didn't come with a full manual (you have to download it), but otherwise it's a fine modem; easy to connect and set up. No notable performance improvements over the modem that Spectrum supplied me, but this one allows me to actually communicate with the modem, view incoming signal status, or change settings, which was why I ordered it. With the Spectrum modem you're pretty much blind: you can't view the status on your computer, and there are no meaningful status lights on the front of the modem. If you're having connection issues, it's nice to be able to tell your cable provider what your signal status is when you call for tech support.

Best mid-range value modem
So I've had this modem for a few weeks. I used to have a Motorola Surfboard 6141 I believe (going off memory). That modem at times would randomly drop speeds down to 1mb/s maximum for no reason, then throttle back up. I tried to research this and found out it might have been related to the Time Warner Maxx internet package I have (I'm grandfathered into a package that currently doesn't exist). No idea how or why that would matter but it seems to be the reason why my old Surfboard was having problems. So a deal hit and I dropped cash for this modem in hopes I could solve this problem fairly cheaply and so far its working. I haven't noticed any lag, no strange behavior like dropping to 1mb/s speeds, its been consistent and constant fast speeds, even above the stated speeds I should receive. The unit is well ventilated so the concern of heating up is not an issue. It's barely warm to the touch. I think as others have stated, if you put this in a confined space, for example an entertainment center with a glass door, then it'll heat up more than likely because there's no internal fan. But if you provide adequate air circulation then it'll function perfectly from my point of view. Also I wasn't able to successfully hook up the unit and remotely update to Time Warner that I am switching modems (Mac address) so I had to call them. The tech was able to get me going and took about 10 mins. All in all its so far a great intermediate modem.

Still works fine with Xfinity
People are saying this doesn’t work with Xfinity anymore. As of August 2025, that’s not true. You just have to download both the Xfinity and NETGEAR apps on your phone and make sure you go through the full setup for both. This modem does indeed want you to go through the phone apps for setup, as does Xfinity, so I suppose if you’re an older customer and not as comfortable with apps, you could run into trouble. But it’s pretty straightforward, you just may have to jump back and forth between the two apps once or twice. My modem does get a little warm, but certainly hasn’t overheated yet. We’ll see if that changes as it gets older, but, considering this modem is well priced, I’m quite satisfied so far.
