The Gateway to Prussia in Miniture
Having been stationed in West Germany in the early 1970’s with the US Army, I had the privilege to travel to Berlin on three separate occasions from 1970 to 1971. On each of these occasions I had the chance to visit the Berlin Wall and even travelled into East Berlin where the Brandenburg Gate resided. Having been built in the late 18th century as one of eighteen gates surrounding Berlin, it was considered by all Germans as the gateway to Prussia. Having interest in various architectural styles, I took my chances and purchased this rendition of the Brandenburg Gate in the Legos Architectural series. At first I found the instructions to be somewhat confusing but as I progressed I gained a rhythm of placement of the bricks. However, as I progressed toward the finish I noticed that my columns were misplaced and I had to deconstruct and back pedal to my pages of error. Upon looking at the instructions I could see why I made the mistake as the angle of the picture did not show on which notch of the brick I was to use. Looking at the next series of pictures I could see my error. However I was placing other bricks on other subassemblies at that time and was not concerned with what I had finished. In other words the horse was already out of the barn and I didn’t even notice it. In deconstruction I learned a great deal and discovered that one must assess placement after each page to make sure that you’re on the right track. Keep your eyes on the finished project and make sure you are using the right bricks and the placement is correct. Rushing can instill errors down the road. Once constructed, I was pleased with what was built and is a fine miniature detail of an historical monument with much architectural appeal. One glitch is that I was missing one piece of a column and had to go on the Lego website to order the missing piece and thus I had to stop construction for two weeks until I received the missing piece. Lego does supply any missing pieces at no charge. In general I am very pleased with the product and will continue to buy others in the Lego Architectural Series.

Added to the collection..and well worth it.
We have been adding the Lego Architecture building one and time. This was our latest addition. Which now makes it complete...the at least until they create a new one. We use these projects as a family exercise. Like a board game if you will. Sunday, in the living room. Coffee. Reading about the Gate, it's history. The book that accompanies the Lego pieces is fantastic. We then do a search online. Wikipedia reading. Usually these buildings have their own webpage..so we delve even deeper into the stories, history, the design, the architect themselves. This series is truly perfect for anyone. The instructions COULD NOT be easier. I'm sure a bunch of research went into this...but we do wish that you could by a "large scale" version of your favorite models. So that they would come in two sizes. Yes..the price is astronomical...but then again...they have cornered the market. There is NO competition for products like this. Which kind of sucks. But none the less. These are great fun.

Solid and nice albeit some odd pieces.
This lego is a lot of fun to put together and much easier than some of the other in the architecture series. There aren't nearly as many 1 by 1 pieces. Oddly though the jail bars used to make up the columns all around it were all the same with 4 studs on top except for one that only had 2 studs on top. In the directions it showed them all being the 2 stud kind. It didn't matter much structure wise. It's very solid and looks nice! It isn't listed as a part in the manual but the name plate brick comes in both English and German. I ended up putting both on mine.

Awesome Lego kit
I absolutely love all of these Lego kits, they are fun to put together, totally realistic, great to display. I of course wish they were less money because I want to buy them all, but other than that, no complaints

Just beautiful!
Right now, the Brandenburger Tor is just a box of parts. I don't know yet what is in there; I can't open the box. I will wait on pins and needles until the giftee opens his present. (Then I can amend or replace my review to specifically address the Lego parts.). Ordered on Sept 6th and was given delivery date of Sept 12th through the 15th. Item arrived on Sept 9th! It came as described, brand new and in a perfect box. This is a birthday gift for my brother-in-law, who spent time in Berlin while he was in the army years ago. He loves Germany, and Berlin in particular, so I hope he enjoys putting this set together. It came factory sealed, so I couldn't check out the actual Lego bricks, or even the instruction booklet, though I am sure they will be outstanding, (I hope!). The box is heavy, and well enough packed so that it doesn't sound like Lego pieces; he will have no idea what he is getting until it is unwrapped. I don't know why all the literature on-line says there are 363 parts, while right on the boxtop it says 362, but I won't be counting in any case. There are several photos of the Gate on the box, and contents listed in three languages, making for a very attractive package. This Lego project is intended for children 12 years and up, but I am fully confident that my brother-in-law will enjoy building it, and then just admiring it for years to come.

Legos are always great.
What can I say, they are Legos. Legos are always perfect-great instructions, great design. Fun to put together, a bear to step on but by the time your kid is making Architecture Lego designs they aren't leaving them all over the floor. .
