Barge All Purpose Contact Cement Glue for Leather & Shoes, Red 32 oz Can

This stuff is awesome, sets up quickly and so far has held perfectly

Worked really well in preparing shoes. Watched a few videos on how to do all of this. You should have good ventilation while using this. I like the brush applicator. I followed the instructions, coated both sides, waited, reapplied the glue and waited 10 minutes before adhering both sides. Perfect! The 32 ounce can is a lot for a pair of shoes but well worth it and at least I have contact cement available for the next repair task.

This stuff has been around forever so I feel it doesn't really need a review but I used it for a very specific application so I wanted to post how well it worked. I recently wanted to add a hitting strip to my 1-inch-thick indoor golf hitting mat. Since most hitting strips are around 2 inches thick, I needed an adhesive that would securely bond the mat to 1-inch EVA foam tiles while still allowing some flexibility. My hitting mat is 5' × 4', and I used almost the entire 32 oz. can. I spread an even coat on both the mat and the foam tiles using a 1/8-inch notched trowel, then applied the 2' × 2' tiles one at a time. Afterward, I covered everything with a sheet of plywood, added weight on top, and left it overnight. The bond is incredible. It would be impossible to separate the two layers without tearing the foam first. At the same time, the mat is still flexible enough (though understandably a bit stiffer) to be rolled up and transported. This process turned my $150 Amazon hitting mat into something that feels like a $500 name-brand mat. I couldn't be happier with the results.

This is the real deal. It is expensive. I had reservations. But I had those inserts that cost $400 from the foot and ankle people. Use 99% alcohal to clean the insert, then use this product. On any shoe. This product is the grandaddy of them all. The can is well made and it will keep for you for years.

I hand already used the Toluene free version of Barge cement in tube packaging. As the kids had a fun summer, and their rubber soled sneakers needed to be re-soled. I decided to get the larger qt version of Barge Cement. Had a chance to use both, and the Toleune free version seems to adhere firmer between the sole and sole material. The smell is definitely stronger when not yet dry, so make sure to have a very well ventilated area to work in. I was able to use some rubber sealed jam jars to divvy up the cement and so far the cement does not seem to have dried out. Once opened, apparently it's supposed to be used within two years, but I feel with the kids use and summer activities, I'll be able to use most of the cement through the year. First time leather maker and this was recommended. Worked really well. I wish it came in a smaller canister.

Barge Cement, Not cheap and does what it’s supposed to do, smells the same as the glue used when I worked in a shoe factory some 40 years ago. So far used to glue rubber soles / heels on shoes. Works great provided the surfaces are scuffed up with sandpaper and the glue is left a while to get tacky. It is a contact adhesive so is pretty unforgiving, there is no ‘open’ time; when the two items are joined they are joined… A heat lamp or gun (not sure if a hairdryer will work) will soften the glue if you ever need to unstick (or if you have left it too long before joining the parts).
