Nice set for a lock picking adventure
I recently purchased this lock picking kit for my aspiring junior detective, and it's been an unexpected delight! Here's the lowdown on why it's a game-changer: Pros: 1. **Educational Fun:** Forget video games – this lock picking kit is like a hands-on puzzle that teaches problem-solving and patience. My little one is mastering the art of unlocking while developing critical thinking skills. 2. **Quality Tools:** The kit comes with sturdy, kid-friendly tools that aren't flimsy. It's like introducing them to a mini locksmith workshop (or jnr prison break?), minus the locksmith license! 3. **Parental Bonding:** Who knew lock picking could be a bonding experience? It's become a family affair, and I get to share my "wisdom" on the art of unlocking (while secretly learning from my pint-sized prodigy). Cons: 1. **Supervision Required:** While it's fantastic for skill development, keep an eye on your little lock picker. It's not a set-it-and-forget-it activity – safety first! 2. **Missing "Mission Impossible" Soundtrack:** Okay, maybe that's just a personal wish, but wouldn't it be awesome to have some spy music playing in the background? In summary, if you're looking to foster curiosity, patience, and a touch of spy intrigue in your child, this lock picking kit is a winner. Just don't be surprised if they start offering to unlock your doors – they're mastering the art faster than you think! 🔐🕵️♂️

A fun skill to learn
It was a bit of fun to learn, the locks are a good quality while being clear, it let's you see the individual pins while having a range of picks so you can see how different things fit in the locks and affect pins to find the best way to open it. It helped me open some bits at work to change the locks instead of getting a locksmith out, great value

The picks are good for the money; the locks are strictly for novices
I recently ordered a second set as a present. I still think they're great value and my original review (below) still stands: I'd say this is excellent value for money if you're a complete novice like me, i.e. you don't have a clear idea of how a pin tumbler lock works. In that case the three locks in this kit will quickly show you the basics. As other reviewers have said, you won't learn a great deal more because they are so easy to pick, so you'll need to supply your own locks if you want to progress. The manual supplied has some helpful diagrams but the text is useless. Try the many excellent YouTube videos instead. After a couple of hours of practice you should be able to deal with cheap padlocks, bike locks, cash boxes and window locks, even if they take a long time. Picking good-quality locks is much harder and will take a lot of practice – but this hobby is clearly addictive. I think this kit would make a great gift for anyone over the age of 10. From what I've read so far I think the tools are of reasonable quality. The steel is springy and extremely hard. They have sharp edges, so you should really clean them up with fine sandpaper. I think the handles mimic those on Peterson picks, which cost about US$8 each. It's a good way to decide which tools you need before investing in better-quality ones later. All the picks are 0.7 mm (0.027 in.) thick. "Standard" US picks seem to be 0.025 in. and some European locks seem to have a reputation for needing narrower picks (0.020 in. / 0.5 mm), so I guess these are going to be too wide for some locks. In the set are 3 hooks (including a very square one that probably has its own name), 2 half diamonds; 1 snowman, 1 broken key remover, 1 city rake, 2 Bogota-type rakes, 1 snake-type rake and 1 small rake whose name I don't know. I'd like to see a review by someone who knows what they're on about. The tension wrenches are a bit basic, and I struggled to use them at the top of the keyway on the real locks I've tried. If I were to buy (or make) more tools I'd probably start with those.

Good quality set
Good range of tools and the practice locks give added confidence to help make picking locks easier

good to gain an understanding of how locks work - mediocre beyond that
Have been quite intrigued about lock picking for a while and had even managed to pick a brass padlock at home using paper clips but fancied giving it a "proper" go by getting a pick set. Opted for this one due to the 4 training locks and range of picks included, but waited for the promo price of £19.99. If you've no idea how locks work, I'd say this kit (and many similar ones) with transparent locks are great to gain an understanding. That being said, you can easily gain as much insight via online videos. In picking the locks it is helpful to see the pins lift inside, however the locks themselves aren't great quality and feel you don't get great tactile/audible feedback as you pick them so as a learning tool they feel quite limiting - in only about 3 picking sessions I did manage to learn to pick all 4 locks (repeatedly and consistently). Also, despite the locks being transparent, holding the locks and seeing the pins at the same time can be very difficult, so almost negates the benefit of them being transparent to some extent... The range of picks is nice, though I feel the wave rake and the two single hooks are probably the most useful. Although you get 5 turning tools they are all for bottom of the keyway tensioning (as opposed to top of the keyway) so aren't as versatile as "FIVE TENSION TOOLS" would lead you to think. Also 3 of them are the same. Furthermore regarding the tension tools, they're all a bit too large to practically pick the 4 way lock. I did manage it, but purely because the pinning on this lock actually means you only need to pick two sides, not 4, so you can actually block off either of the other rows of pins and it doesn't cause an issue, if the lock were pinned differently though I don't know how you could tension the lock cylinder and not block access to each of the 4 rows of pins with the tension tools included in this kit... I feel getting a less expensive kit without any practise locks and using the money saved to get a few cheap off the shelf padlocks (or even a cutaway lock such as those by the Dangerfield brand) would make for a better learning experience if you truly want to learn and improve at picking rather than just learning to pick 4 easy low quality plastic locks...

Makes An Ideal Training Set
Being using these as training sets for a number of years, little too thick for out in the field or lock sport without thinning down however for the price, ideal for training with (breaking and bending) until learners get the methodology in picking locks then a better set would be advised.

Good beginners kit
Great beginners kit, some of the picks are a bit flimsy but ok to start learning with.

Great fun and highly satisfying but don't expect too much.
This set of picks etc is great fun and does in fact work, that is I was able to (slighly scarily) unlock my front upvc door in 3 minutes, after about 30 minutes of practice on a 'proper' spare CES lock I had kept in a drawer. The 2 see-through locks supplied in this kit will actually unlock if you just stare at them very hard....they are not what I'd call your average locks as their tolerances seem to be huge. They do however give a complete novice like me a better idea of how the mechanics of the tumblers and cylinder work. I was therefore very surprised at how easily I picked my front door lock. The provided instructions are a hoot. With hindsight I could have purchased a kit without see-through locks and obtained tumbler info via Youtube but I am talking of a saving of maybe a fiver or so which ain't huge. I'm guessing that these picks will not be purchased by professionals (locksmiths that is, not thieves) as I expect there are better quality kits available to the trade at a higher price but as far as value for money I think this kit is excellent as a starting point for anyone interested in locks etc. as I am. Additionally it also seems to show the deficiencies of bog-standard locks and how simple it is to defeat them so an upgrade will be forthcoming for my home doorlocks. Overall I'm personally dead chuffed with this little kit.

Comunque consigliato

Very poor quality. Avoid.
Practice lock practically fell apart in my hand, sending springs and pins across the room. No spares available in the kit.
