Zymox Advanced Formula Otic Plus Enzymatic Ear Solution for Dogs and Cats

Zymox Advanced Formula Otic Plus with 1% Hydrocortisone can save you a visit to the vet! Our previous vet prescribed this product for our pup without the hydrocortisone (a pain reliever) and wanted to charge us over $60 for a1.25 oz bottle. I checked Amazon and found the same product (WITH pain reliever) for $33. I ordered it immediately. This is an OTC pet med for ear infections or the beginning of them. It is easy to administer drops in the affected ear. Simply squeeze individual drops and rub the base of the ear. My boy didn't shake his head anymore, appeared comforted and the infection only improved. We headed off another vet bill and antibiotics. Zymox is a fantastic product, endorsed by veterinarians. It lasts for hours (recommended administration is twice daily). The savings was tremendous when every dollar counts. If your pup is shaking it's head and the ear is not warm yet - I recommend trying Zymox with hydrocortisone first. If the ear warms, a vet visit is warranted. Please note - this is NOT a product for humans!

Sorry if this takes a minute: I am a RN. My go-to is to trust what a MD or, in turn, a Vet tells me. However… We went through months and thousands $$$ treating and testing my dog’s ear infection with little improvement. It got to be so bad he started to shirk away when we approached him (it absolutely broke my heart!) We finally found the right Rx but it was a nightmare!!! Here we are a couple years later and we adopt a pair of cats from a local rescue group. Take them to our Vet for a new owner/bringing home check up and lo n behold one of them has ears full of dark brown nasty gunk, totally red and inflamed. Take cultures, NO mites, +staph (of course) +fungal/yeast overgrowth, same exact cultures that popped positive with my dog, except the issue is… The med they had given my dog that FINALLY worked, not available for kitties! They cleaned him up the best they could and I went home telling them I wanted to do more research… I found this stuff and gave it a Hail Mary shot after reading the multiple attestations of cures all over the internet. I was NOT exceedingly hopeful of a fix, just thinking it’d tide him over while I found a true “cure”. Ha!!! He was so inflamed originally I couldn’t get a starter picture, just imagine his ears practically PACKED with dark brownish-black, thick, cheesy, gunk, the Vet started out by scraping chunks out with a rubber speculum, then swabbing gauze pad after gauze pad until a small mountain formed. The first couple pictures I have are from day 3 of using this, the last few are from today, day 5. On day 3 I lightly swabbed out the excess from the outer ear canal and all THAT is what you see on the cotton swab. The product liquifies the nastiness and it visibly drains down and out the sides of his ears, on a white cat like him you can really see just how much grossness is being flushed out. The redness improved immediately on use, and now it has completely resolved! He’s not holding his head sideways anymore, and the drainage coming out isn’t coming out looking as much like tobacco spit like it was originally, yuck! I read about the tip falling out/off of the bottle, so I wrapped it with a layer of freezer tape, it is keeping it in place perfectly snug. To administer: I burrito wrap/bundle him in a towel, scruff him lightly, pull his ear back, and hold the dropper an inch or so away so I can see the drops individually fall. If you can drop them against the skin of the outer ear avoiding the inner canal and fur it seems to lessen the head shaking instinct. For him, as a 11lb cat, I found 5 drops seems to be a good amount. He seems completely unbothered by the medicine itself. He shakes his head once or twice, I give him some treats which he eats immediately and he goes right back to be-bopping around. It doesn’t seem to have any effect on his appetite or be giving him any GI upset. Today is day 5, there is still quite a lot of buildup in the deeper part of his ear canal, I will continue with the treatment for the full 7 days, possibly extend to 10.

I am extremely happy with this product. My dog’s ears have cleared up much faster than I expected. It’s is very easy to apply, with it being thicker than most liquids. And it’s nice that when my dog shakes her head, the medicine doesn’t go all over her. It gave her relief from discomfort and itching after just a few treatments. I will definitely be keeping this medication on hand.

About twice a year, our dog’s ears need more than just a wipe, and that’s when we turn to this product. It has successfully knocked out any and all brewing ear infections due to environmental allergies, swimming, or whatever else. Not having to pre-clean the ear means less discomfort when treating. The gel formula seems to be tolerated better by our dog than the liquid solutions, and between the post-application head shake and wiping of excess gel, it basically coats all surfaces of the inside of the ear to effectively treat the entirety. Hydrocortisone also relieves itch and calms sore, red, inflamed ears, making each subsequent application easier and less painful. If you use this please be sure to use the product for the entire duration that is recommended. This is not a one and done product. It takes time and consistency for these enzymes to fully treat, break down all the gunk, and clean out the ear. If you apply this for only 1 or 2 days, wax and debris will still remain deep inside the ear and nothing will be solved. Don’t be lazy.

This is a god-send Our dog loves to swim in our pool and is allergic to life. We have been battling chronic ear infections his whole life, spending thousands (no joke) at the vet with countless appointments and medications. We have finally gotten his ear infections under control, a huge part thanks to Zymox. Shockingly, we were not directed to this product by our vet, but by my own tireless research for my poor dog. We will put this in his ears every 2 weeks or so or more often if he has been swimming a lot, just for maintenance. It works really well. But it also works for ACTUAL ear infections. We get lazy or busy and forgot to put the maintenance drops in and suddenly the ear is painful and red and gross. We put these drops in everyday for a few days and it clears it right up. I haven’t been back to the vet since staring this. And we even stopped the prescription dog food and went back to a normal diet. I will say my dog really hates getting this (or any medicine) put in his ears. But I’m sure that is because he is used to his ear being in so much pain all the time. He was traumatized, I’m sure. I won’t say that zymox is 100% responsibile for the improvement. We also starting giving him daily fish oil, tumeric, and an allergy pill. But there is NO DOUBT IN MY MIND that this stuff works wonders. Even with all these measures, including a prescription allergy pill, he still gets flare ups and starts to get ear infections. And this clears it up within days. One warning- multiple times he has had an ear infection and I put these drops in, the next day the ear looks worse- more red, spots, irritation (and I panicked). But I put them in again and then next day it starts to clear up and continues to get better with each day of drops in his ears. We always have a bottle on hand

Helped clear up my German Shepherds itchy and sore ears. She had brownish build-up a day after cleaning her ears. This also cleared that up.

Incredible! My dog had gone to the vet, $280 with yeast infection in both ears. But the vet only treated the right ear. The left ear's infection blew up the next day. I used the Zymox in the left and it cleared up faster than the $280 treatment by the Vet. She doesn't scratch her left ear. Despite the 30 day treatment in her right ear, it is still causing her to scratch and rub that ear on the floor. Wish I found this before I spent $280 on a treatment that is subpar compared to Zymox.

I was extremely skeptical after years of trying everything, and at such a strep price when nothing else worked. This stuff is AMAZING!!!! First application was a mess, stinky sludge coming out with each head shake. Second day there was much less debris to clean up and the smell was noticably better. I worked late on day 3, but when I checked his ears, they were clean and the was NO stink!!!! After years of ear pain and discomfort, my boy was not scratching his ears or shaking his head, but was resting peacefully all night. I decided to wait until today, day 4, to apply it again and still no odor or discharge. I will never be without this stuff on hand. It was worth every penny!

Wow! My dog had what I interpreted as excessive wax build up in his ear. He’s a feisty little guy and I could not get on top of it with mere cleaning and hair trimming. With a yeasty smell I turned to this product. The debris that came out of his ear was phenomenal, and now he is irritation free with a very clean ear canal. This product is highly recommended.

Had tried numerous different ways & products to rectify my cat’s yeasty ears which was giving her great irritation. Came across Zymox as a suggestion, applied once a day for 7 days- Problem solved immediately after one weeks use.! Even now a few weeks later she is irritation free and her ears are clear of black debris. Highly recommended.

it does what it says cheap then going to vets

I haven’t had to go to the vet and pay hundreds of dollars for things to fix her ear infections since we got this stuff. I have a Chinese shar pei so it’s really common for them to get ear infections. This stuff is thick and doesn’t go everywhere, travels thru their ear and then you just wipe the excess. It’s great!
