i tried to plug it in the xbox 360 and it did not connect to the guitar. why did this happen?

Possibly it is not compatible to work with your guitar. I doubt your guitar was made to work with the Xbox 360. I could be wrong. If the manual says your guitar can, then maybe the USB breakaway cable is defective.

does it work with afterglow controller

That's what I bought it for. It worked perfectly.

Does it work with Rocksmith?

It should work for any Xbox360 accessory that supports the break away cable.

do you guys think this cable would work on an original xbox controller to plug it into my computer

Since its a standard USB plug I would think your computer would search and download whatever it needed to communicate with the controller. Whether you'd be able to use it on your computer I don't know. My kids "Portal of Power",which also uses a USB plug, for Skylanders works on the computer... I guess that would be the same?!?
