Can i use any black and decker 20 volt battery for lst522 trimmer?

Yes. That is what I am doing. I bought the Black & Decker 20 volt Drill and Flashlight combo a while back. The combo only came with one battery. Then I bought the trimmer with two 20 volt batteries. They interchange beautifly. I actually called B&D before I purchased the trimmer to ask this question. Good luck.

Can you reload your own line or do you have to buy the preloaded spools?

I have always bought the bulk pack and loaded it myself. Just make sure it's .065 ROUND line! (That's what's specified in the manual.) Wind it snugly, and in the right direction, and you should have no problem.
