This gumbo mix was pretty good. Be careful not to over season your your protein. Your dish will be a little salty because of the seasoning in the gumbo mix. Other than that overall the price and the taste was really good. Enjoy!

I’m not an expert on gumbo but my dish was delicious. I brought it to a Mardi Gras party and it got raves. This gumbo base made it really easy to pull the dish together. It’s a time saver in a big way. There are 2 recipes on the package that are easy to follow and modify. Use water or LOW sodium chicken broth otherwise it will be a bit salty.

I ordered the gumbo mix because I can’t find this in stores near me anymore. I’ve always enjoyed the quality of Louisiana Brand fish fry batters, and this gumbo seasoning. It is convenient for when I don’t feel like making a roux from scratch. It is a good product and has a good flavor but I always add my own seasonings. It’s definitely worth buying when you don’t know how to make a roux or are on a time crunch.

This gumbo base is my favorite. However, I do add the following to create a heartier version. I add 32 ounces of low sodium chicken broth AND 32 ounces of water, one 14 ounce can of diced tomatoes, two links of andouille sausage cut into small pieces, one to 1 1/2 cooked skinless chicken breasts (chopped), and 1/2 pound fresh small deveined shrimp (added in the last fifteen minutes of cooking.) I serve the gumbo over 3/4 cup cooked white long grain rice along with a cornbread muffin. Like most soups and stews, you can cook it the day before adding the fresh shrimp during the warmup before serving. I have Crystal hot sauce on hand for folks who like a little heat to splash on.

Purchased multiple times in the past for a shortcut to making my own roux. Cuts down on cooking time with everything else that goes into making gumbo. One 5oz packet may not be enough. Works out great for my needs.

It was delicious. The same flavor as it used to be in the old package. However I noticed as the sodium % is high per Tbsp to make one pot of Gumbo (for 5-6 meals). If less sodium and keep the same flavor is better. I wish if there were more than 5oz in a package.

Game changer. Absolutely delicious and authentic. Quick. Low cal. A way to make high protein meals quickly and deliciously. We look forward to it at least 5 days per week.

This is the next best (or maybe even better) than homemade gumbo….excellent roux!
