Julia Donaldson's trademark rhyming text and Axel Scheffler's brilliant, characterful illustrations come together in this perfect read aloud—a perfect gift for any special occasion! A mouse is taking a stroll through the deep, dark wood when along comes a hungry fox, then an owl, and then a snake. The mouse is good enough to eat but smart enough to know this, so he invents . . . the gruffalo! As Mouse explains, the gruffalo is a creature with terrible claws, and terrible tusks in its terrible jaws, and knobbly knees and turned-out toes, and a poisonous wart at the end of its nose. But Mouse has no worry to show. After all, there’s no such thing as a gruffalo. . . . Review: Loved by kids and parents alike! - This is one of my 3 yo son’s favorite books! I picked this for a story time at daycare and it is one of our most read books. It’s a very cute rhyming story with beautiful illustrations. One of our regulars for bedtime book time. He loves it so much that we even got the Gruffalo Tonie too! Review: Excellent book for children - Pretty pictures and nice story. My son loves to read this book with me especially if I read it animatedly! I have other books from this author and they are all good.

My favorite book to read to my son
This is my favorite book to read to my son. He has maybe 50 different books to choose from but this one is constantly requested. It's fun as an adult to read it because of the flow and rhyming, and my son loves to chime in and finish off many of the sentences. Well written book that every toddler's parent should own.

Fun, Smart, Well-Written, and Has a Great Message/Lesson
Fun, Smart, Well-Written, and Has a Great Message/Lesson I've read my 19-month-old daughter 2-5 books a day and this one was by far one of her favorites. She has become a fan of longer, more complex stories and the Gruffalo has become a wonderfully fun, smart, well-written, and well-loved addition to our book collection alongside Pete the Cat! My daughter requests this over and over again...which is great because every re-reading or re-telling is rich and vibrant, with a great message and lesson at the end as well as fun little easter eggs to find on every page. Very fun, would buy this again!

Yes, yes, yes. All of the Yes.
Summary: It's a wonderful story about a little brown Mouse taking a walk through a deep dark wood and not getting eaten by bigger animals by convincing them of the existence of a terrible creature, the Gruffalo. All is going well for our Mouse, until he meets the Gruffalo face to face! Then he has to convince the Gruffalo that he's actually a big scary creature. It's written by Julia Donaldson who is my absolute favourite children's author right now. I was a nanny for 11 years and I know that anything by Julia Donaldson is going to be a hit. This book has been around so long and is so popular in England that there is actually a lot of merch that you can get to go with it if you choose. There's a movie, an audio book, stuffed animals to represent every character, and even a sequel! The Gruffalo's Child. This is absolutely one of the best children's books around. I can not recommend this highly enough. Every person that I know/ am related to that is under the age of 10 has received this book from me as a present at some point in their lives. I usually purchase it as a baby shower gift because I want to make sure they have it, either that or for a child I nannied, it would be for the first birthday I celebrated with them. Kids love this book because of the repetitive rhyming scheme and it's easy to jump in words at the end of sentences for pre-readers. I will never tire of reading this, even over and over. In fact, it's probably been 2 or 3 years since I've read it, and I could absolutely recite it from memory right now. Proudly! In fact, stop reading this review and buy the book.

A Modern Classic That Every Child Should Own
The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler is a timeless children’s classic that never loses its magic. The story of the clever little mouse outwitting his predators with the myth of the Gruffalo is both funny and smart, teaching children about courage, creativity, and quick thinking. The rhyming text flows beautifully, making it a joy to read aloud—parents will love it just as much as kids do. Axel Scheffler’s illustrations are charming, colourful, and full of personality, bringing the woodland creatures to life in a way that instantly captures young imaginations. It’s no wonder this book has become a staple on every child’s bookshelf—perfect for bedtime stories or classroom reading. Pros: • Engaging, rhythmic storytelling that’s fun to read aloud • Beautiful, vibrant illustrations • Encourages imagination and problem-solving • Appeals to children and adults alike Cons: • None—it’s a must-have! Overall: 5/5 – A wonderfully written and illustrated classic that delights children of all ages. A true essential for every home library
