I expected a robust latch, but have to say I was pleasantly surprised with this, it is very solid and sturdy and exceeded my expectations.The operation is smooth and reliable. The key lock works well.Installation was simple; and it can be located for either right hand or left hand opening.There is an actuator rod to connect the lock in the front to the latch mechanism in the back, this needs to be cut to length according to the thickness of the mounting post. It is clearly illustrated how to measure this, and the manufacturer thoughtfully provides an extra one in case you get it wrong the first time.When you go to cut this piece, you'll get a sense of just how tough the plastic is.It is a trifle awkward to open from the inside, as you need to pull a knob and then pull the gate open, but it's easy enough to figure out how to do this. (thumb and forefinger on the knob, then use your ring finger to pull the latch arm). From the outside there is a button to push that opens the latch.This uses a 6-pin (one notch up security) Schlage SC4 type key, and comes with two, marked with the key code.Note: generally speaking, black plastic is going to hold up better under long term sun exposure than any other color.

The lock is amazing. The instructions are not as great BUT... I call the support as I couldn't lock the latch and got a technician that was very helpful.Here are the missing instructions:1 - on the latch side... make sure the key is in the OPEN position before installing it and start with this side FIRST with no key in the lock.2 - push side and still WITHOUT the key in the lock... let's position the rod. The rod turns 180°. You need to find the middle position so that you can turn 90° left and 90° right. Let's call that the 0° position. You can only install the push side when it is on the 0° position. Once in the 0° position, slide it into the hole to connect with the latch side (assuming the length of the rod has been adjusted already).Rod length: make sure the rod has the proper length. Easy to figure out... look at the EXACT size of your post and report that value on the rod ruler (in inches or mms). For instance if your post like mine is thin and measures 38mm then cut the rod just before the 40mm mark. You know that the length is correct when you install the two parts and the two latches (looks like viper fangs) are fully sunk (like you can't see the tip of the fangs)Again, amazing support from Safetech.

I was able to connect with customer support on the phone, the call started out seeming a little sketchy but I think the agent was just working from home. He had me send him a video of the problem and talked me through the fix. The lock has worked flawlessly since then. Great customer service.This latch and lock worked very well for a few months but today the locking mechanism and the latch failed. I had walked through the gate and locked it behind me but a couple of hours later the gate was open and my dogs were running around in the street. After I got my pets safely into the house I checked the lock only to fine that it was locked on the inside but the outside of the lock worked as if it was unlocked. Besides that, the gate opened at the slightest push, even when the prongs were lowered around the latch bar. I was able to make some adjustments so the latch would hold the bar again but I can’t make the lock function properly again.I’m assuming this lock isn’t really suited for a wooden gate as advertised. Wood swells and shrinks with the weather and this failure occurred at a change in seasons. Also, wooden gates are subject to more movement due to wind hitting the solid surface. Metal gates are often bars that permit the wind to pass through. The plastic bar that connects both sides of the locking mechanism don’t allow much of a margin of error therefore shrinking and swelling of the wood can cause the bar to fail and the gate lock to become inoperative. The lock came with screws that were too short to mount it well on a wooden fence but they would be adequate for a metal fence. I did replace them with longer, outdoor rated deck screws so that was my first clue that this lock was not made for a wood fence despite claims that it would work well for that application.I’ll be contacting support for assistance in repairing this problem and will update this review if they help me find a permanent fix for this issue.

Easy to install works great. High quality construction. Easy to open with full hands and lock is strong. Looks and fits perfectly. Little expensive but worth the peace of mind.

Installation was basic. Key is stuck on one side. Customer support website and phone number listed on Amazon lead me to some aviation company. From the web search I found support chat and email but no phone number. Waiting for support to help. Too late to return although it wasn't that long ago. I saw a 16 second video of someone have the same issue but no words or comments how to fix it.

I bought this lock so that I would be able to lock and unlock the door from both sides. After numerous reinstalls and trying different sizes for the plastic spindle lock connector, it still does not work. The instructions given were horrible. I called the company to send me more spindle lock connectors, and they seemed to agree that was the problem. It is now 11 days later, and I still have not received my spindle lock connector. With this said, I don't believe my connector is the wrong size; it works perfectly - the door opens and closes perfectly. It just will not lock from the push side. It will only lock from the pull.

Very easy to install. Much more than I anticipated.

This is a sturdy, good looking, and well functioning latch lock. I had some problems installing it. The instructions are not very detailed. I had to watch videos and read about it online. I contacted the US company twice for tech support and got no response. I then contacted the Australian company and got the help I needed. They sent me more detailed instructions and responded right away. After the lock was installed correctly, it works perfectly and I love it.

Very expensive but premium gate lock. Very sturdy and safe for children!

Great lock. But parts not available in UK. Only place i found was in Western Australia. Be aware that the plastic rod that connects to each side of the gate wears easily until it is not long enough to activate the gates mechanism. (Wears when touching metal components). The company in WA are very accommodating. So either online payment (expensive charges) or late night waiting for OZ to open.
