I've been inundated with mice the past month or two. I'm not sure why they're suddenly moving into my apartment. I've lived here since 2013 and have never had rodent problems. But whatever. My problem is getting rid of them, not studying their motivations. I was using those tunnel traps from KatSense. They've got the snap jaw mechanism in the middle of the tunnel. And they worked great with the first 4-5 mice. But then the trigger plate stop being so responsive, and next thing I knew I was subsidizing the mice's calorie intake instead of killing them. I'd set the trap, and when I checked it 24 hours later, it was still set but all the peanut butter was gone! It was infuriating. So, went back to Amazon to look into different, hopefully more reliable traps. That's when I came across this OWLTRA Electric Mouse Trap. Instead of relying on a trigger plate and mechanical action to catch the mouse, it's got a metal floor that's hooked to a bank of 4 AA batteries! You put a little stale peanut butter in the bait cup on the far side of the trap (stale peanut butter is a significantly better bait than fresh peanut butter), and set the trap by sliding the power button to the On position. It'll give you a single green light flash letting you know it's properly set, then you just set it along a wall that your mouse likes to travel along. When he approaches the trap, he'll smell the peanut butter and walk inside. As soon as he walks into the trap beyond the doorway, an infrared switch will detect his presence and arm the trap. Then, as he continues to make his way to the bait cup, he walks across the metal floor and those nice AA batteries dump 8000 volts of electricity into the mouse for 90sec, killing him quickly and humanely. Once the mouse is dead, your trap will flash a green indicator light every 10sec so you know you got one. You just remove the lid with the battery pack, and dump the dead mouse outside somewhere. Inspect the trap to make sure it still has peanut butter in it, and the floor is clean and free of debris. Press the lid back into place, power on the trap, and place it in a spot where mice continue to harass you. It's so easy! This trap is superior to tunnel traps, and other mechanical jaw-type traps because mechanical mechanisms come with the possibility of failure, allowing the mice to eat the bait without triggering the trap. There's no mechanics (no moving parts) involved with this fantastic electric trap making it more reliable. It also doesn't come with the potential to leave the mouse alive in agony with a broken back or leg. The electricity passes from the metal floor into the mouse, stopping his heart immediately. And since there's no mechanical jaw crushing down, there's no messy cleanup. Just an intact, dead mouse that was here one minute and gone the next. The say one set of 4 AA batteries can dispatch 60-80 mice, so it's an energy-efficient solution, as well. I picked up a 24-pack of Powermax AA batteries at the same time I ordered the trap for only $6.79, and I believe that will keep my trap fully armed and ready to take out mice for at least a few years. If you're like me, and losing your mind trying to figure out the best, most efficient and effective trap to address your indoor mouse problem, forget about it. You found it. I didn’t expect to be writing a glowing review about a mouse trap… but this electric mouse catcher absolutely earns it. Setup was refreshingly simple. No complicated instructions, no guesswork. Add bait, switch it on, and you’re ready to go. Within minutes it felt less like I was setting a trap and more like I was deploying a tiny, silent security system for my space. What really stands out is how clean and efficient it is. There’s no mess, no snapping parts, and no need to deal with the unpleasant aftermath you get with traditional traps. The device does exactly what it’s supposed to do quickly and humanely, and the no-touch disposal feature is a huge plus. You don’t have to get anywhere near the situation, which makes the whole process much easier to handle. The build quality is solid. Look out Mouseville...a new sheriff's in town! After re-baiting (many times) our regular snap traps without catching a thing, I ordered this new-fangled mouse trap. Correction - this is not a trap, but this is a battery operated, no mess, no fuss, easy empty, no suffer, instant mouse killing machine. It was recommended to me by a highly satisfied customer and I agree with her assessment. It has already helped me unalive four of the nasty little flour burrowing, paper towel shredding, peanut eating varments! It looks clean and classy sitting in full view of my guests (they don't need to know what it is). My dog doesn't bother it - a definite plus! The only thing I wish were different is that when a mouse has been euthanized, it would beep or the light blink a little bit faster. I do have to make a point to stand there and look at it to watch for the blinking light. I have this item on subscription to re-order every 2 months so I can have several by the time winter gets here without breaking the bank. I highly recommend this item!

Saw a mouse one night and it shared the ever living crap out of me as I was half asleep, just trying to get a drink of water, and I see this dark thing scurry right by my feet. We just can't have that happening. weigh in on my options. I can get glue traps. They are tested and work really well but do I really want to be trying to throw a live mouse away, watching it squirm the whole time? No. Do I want to remove the mouse while it's squirming just to throw it outside and hope it doesn't come back. No Poison? I have kids. Want a dog. Don't really want the mouse finding a random spot to just die and then I run into it three months down the road after it's partially decayed, or it starts to smell. No old school pincher traps? Oh they work. They a great job. My dad has also told me on more then one occasion that the trap took the head clean off. Nope I'm good So lets try this instead. Promises easy cleanup. no torturing the poor soul. just ZAP and that's it. Even says it flashes a light to let you know that there is a surprise waiting for you. First night I put some crackers in the bait box. Set it out and went to get some food. Only gone maybe 30 minutes and come back and the light is flashing indicating it has a present. No way..... Yes way. Little guy made it in the box and was out cold before he ever even made it to the crackers for bait. Walked the box out to trash, took the lid off, and dumped the mouse out. Took a paper towel and cleaned up the tiny sprits of urine he left behind before he went to sleep. Put the lid back on and set it back down where it was. Still had the same crackers in there. Left for about 2-3 hours to go take some pictures and by the time I came back that green light was flashing again. Nahhhh. It's broken or something. No way did I catch two in the same night so I gave it a little nudge with my foot. Maybe there is something in there. So opened the lid again to check and there he is mouse number two dead as can be. Dumped him in the trash just like before. So far I totally give it a 4 out of 5. Runs on a couple AA batteries. Sure it's noticeable, but it's out of the way. It will flash a green light about every 10 seconds to let you know if there is a guest waiting inside so you don't even have open it to check. I don't have to touch the mouse when disposing of them as all I have to do is take the lid off and then dump them out. Worst part is the mice leave a little urine behind (we are talking a dribbling maybe the size of a dime) but that's easy enough to clean up. Just make sure to wash my hands afterwords. Other issue, which is the reason I only give 4 out of 5 stars is while it does work with rechargable batteries, since the voltage is lower on them you need to change the batteries more often. Easy enough fix though is just to grab some alkalines and call it a day. But otherwise, two mice in one night is a win.

4 out of 6 nights these traps have caught a mouse. Last night, no mice caught. The disappointment is real. On the one hand I don't want them in my house. On the other hand, I have years of repressed indignation from the vermin thinking my hone was their rightful abode and I want to slay them all and avenge their trespass of my domain. Maybe I'm a little obsessed with purging these diabolical, beady-eyed rodents or maybe I'm just thrilled to finally have a carefree trap that makes it so easy to eliminate the destructive little boogers. No snap traps to set and annihilate your fingers. No messy glue traps for the furry invaders to drag around and get stuck on my carpet or escape from entirely. They ho for the bait and never get a taste...very satisfying indeed. Zap..problem solved. The light flashes green when there's one in the trap. These traps are perfect. Im buying more, no doubt. Im not sure if they'll work in our workshop since its more of an outdoor environment but im going to try it and ill get back to you.

This trap has been great. It does not have a lot of room for bait but just a little is all you need. I use some little rolled up balls of plain bread in the two little bait spots. Set it up under the cabinet in the kitchen. And sprinkle a bit of crumbs just inside and outside of the entrance. Works like a charm. Next morning the light is flashing and sure enough there's a mouse inside. Easy to empty without having to touch it. If you want a discreet way to get rid of small rodents this is it. For larger Rats you may need a larger version.

Let me preface this review with stating that I am “unreasonably” afraid of mice. I’m a first time living alone gal, with a boyfriend who lives across the country and a dad who lives too far away to be worried about a mouse. I was faced with the daunting task of dealing with this on my own, with the nightmares of people I know complaining about a mouse problem that can’t seem to be solved. So if you’re like me and unnerved by these little critters, then you could probably imagine the panic that consumed me when I first saw the darned thing scurrying across my counter. Anyway, I quickly began my search for the most efficient way to get rid of the critter with the least amount of interaction. Stumbled across this trap and thought hey, why not. Couldn’t do a sticky trap, and turned off from the whole snapping thing (far too jumpy of a person for something to randomly snap at me). I ordered this trap and it was delivered this morning (thank you overnight Amazon) and set the zappy boy up before I left for work this morning, hoping to the mouse trap gods that it would be over when I got home. Well it wasn’t, and I mostly blame my placement of the trap, but not to get too off topic from my adrenaline fueled review, I moved the trap to the counter where I spotted the bugger before. I sprinkled a tiny bit of cheese in front of the entrance to the trap and went about my evening. Not long after settling in did I hear the faintest of buzzing noises, and at first, I was skeptical. No way it worked in the first day. So I got up to check and sure enough, the blinking green light was indicating a capture. Still skeptical, I peeked into the side vent, and indeed saw a little critter inside. Daunting step 1 of 2 complete. After getting over the fact that it WORKED, and quite quickly at that, I had to hype myself for the second part of this adventure, which was getting rid of the mouse. Turns out it’s really quite easy: remove the lid and toss the mouse out. Took a couple minutes for me, and a few pokes of the broomstick to ensure it had surely worked, but eventually dumped it and ran it to the trash. Clean up for the trap was super easy and quick, too, washed up and reset in no time at all, y’know, just in case. Long story short if you are looking for an EASY, QUIET and QUICK WORKING trap, your search should end here. I’m thoroughly pleased with this product, and took a lot of stress off my shoulders in less than 24 hours. Still mind blown. Very worth the money. PS if you’re scared like me, your feelings are valid, and you can do it!

I'm not sure if I should be thrilled or disgusted, but so far I have caught 8 mice with these in the last 5 weeks. Years ago I had one from a competing brand which offered mediocre results, so I was skeptical when I tried this one, but so far I have zero complaints. I ended up buying three of these, and each one has registered a couple kills. For those saying they don't work, or you're not catching anything with these, I might suggest placing them in another area. I originally placed one where there was confirmed activity, and it took 5 days before I caught one. I was starting to think maybe my mouse problem wasn't as bad as I thought. However, knowing where they're coming in (I suspect a hole near the AC compressor) I checked above my drop ceiling tiles in the basement where I've heard them running around. Sure enough, there was a board laying along the heating vent where I found droppings. I cleaned that up, and placed a trap. I've caught one there almost every night since. Sometimes we have to be smarter than the mouse. The flashing light is great, as I can see it flashing up in the drop-ceiling area making it easy to check. I might also mention that I have seen the bait (Extra Crunchy Jif) completely eaten with a dead mouse inside. As a few others have mentioned, this is MOST LIKELY NOT the dead mouse that cleaned out the bait. A 2nd mouse probably followed it in and ate the bait...these deactivate after a kill, allowing safe entry to any following mice. Lastly as far as opening the trap to dispose of the intruder: I find it easiest to hold the bottom half of the trap down by wedging my thumb into the vents in the front (near the entry) and lifting up from that same area, rather than trying to pry it open from the middle or wherever. We'll see how long these last, but so far three of these have served me quite well. Even if I do have to replace them after 5+ uses, I would still buy more, as I've had "reusable" snap traps or covered traps that would fail after 1 or two uses, and they didn't cost much less. Good luck with your mouse issue! For me, these are working quite well, and I don't see ever going back to snap traps.

It is straightforward to use and is effective.

I caught at least 6 mice with this. It is worth every penny. It’s so much more humane than sticky traps or snap traps where they have a slower and more painful death. I can’t stand having killed anything because who am I to decide about life or death and the importance of one over another, but I also can’t afford to be left with messes or smells that cost hundreds or thousands. This is a good middle ground and it acts fast. The zap is relatively loud, so I heard it a few times being in the house. Easy disposal and it works for months at a time. Small foot print and fits in most spaces. Would buy again.

Très efficace. Bien conçu. A éliminé 17 souris en 3 jours, j'avais vraiment une grande famille de souris qui me narguait de puis quelques temps. Problème résolu grâce à cet appareil. Les souris meurent sans souffrir durant plusieurs jours. Une fin rapide et propre. Je recommande sans hésiter.

Es ist die beste Falle, die ich je hatte. Da die Auslösung über eine Lichtschranke erfolgt, kommt es bei dieser Falle weder auf das Geschick des Fallenstellers bei der Beköderung noch auf das der Maus beim Rauben des Köders an. Die Maus ist tot, bevor sie den Köder (z.B. Nutella) tatsächlich erreicht hat. Die Falle zeigt durch ein Lichtsignal an, wenn ein Fang erfolgte. Erscheint das Lichtsignal nicht (weil nichts gefangen wurde), kann man sich durch Aus- und Wiedereinschalten von der (weiterhin) bestehenden Betriebsbereitschaft überzeugen. Da die Maus nicht verletzt wird, wird auch die Falle innen nicht verschmutzt. Das tote Tier kann ohne Berührung entfernt und die Falle sofort wieder eingesetzt werden. Nachdem ich an drei Tagen drei Mäuse gefangen hatte, habe ich alle mechanischen Fallen, die in der selben Zeit erfolglos geblieben waren, weggeworfen. Leider habe ich dann doch nicht so viele Mäuse - sonst hätte ich ganz sicher noch weitere dieser genialen Fallen gekauft.

This is really effective. I put peanut butter in and didn't turn it on the first night to see if the mouse would go in - it certainly did. So second night I turned it on and it caught a mouse within a couple of hours. Put it on again the next afternoon to see if there were any more, and another was in there within a couple of hours again. Seems to be more humane, looks like it would be pretty instant. Much easier to dispose of than traditional traps too. I have dogs and this is also easy to put out of the way? I'd be much more nervous with traditional traps and the dogs.
