A simple but effective monitor system that's well suited to basic as well as complex environments.
This is a basic but flexible device that provides text message and email alerts for power up/down events without a yearly subscription cost such as with Ting. I have a fairly complex power environment in my house, where most of the electrical circuits are protected by a 20KVA Cummins Onan standby generator, and I have several UPS devices that protect critical appliances during the 10-second delays between utility failures and generator reinstatements. I'm currently using three MySpool devices to monitor this environment, but I'll probably add more in the future. One MySpool device is connected to an unprotected outlet, and it lets me know when a utility failure occurs and how long it lasts before the utility company fixes it. A second device is connected to a generator-protected outlet, it also tells me when utility power fails, but then it also confirms that the standby generator has kicked in and reinstated power afterwards. A third device is connected to a 1500VA UPS that is plugged into a generator-protected outlet, and which I use to ensure constant uninterrupted power to the main kitchen refrigerator. The UPS helps guard the sensitive electronics you find on most modern refrigerators from power outages and surges, and I think it has allowed the last two refrigerators I've owned from having any significant issues in this regard. (The previous refrigerator simply wore out physically, but it continued working electrically until it was replaced.) However, UPSes themselves will eventually die when their batteries expire, and the MySpool device I connected to it should let me catch this situation quickly and let me replug the refrigerator to a backup UPS or directly to an outlet until the UPS is serviced and before food starts to spoil. I could of course do the same thing with three Ting devices, but each Ting device would need a $49/year subscription while your property insurance will likely pay for only one. Ting will give you predictive alarms for potential wiring problems in your house, but in at least one of my cases the things that Ting can see will likely be shielded by the refrigerator UPS. I might eventually install a Ting device in my house, but I see the MySpool devices performing a separate monitoring function that Ting isn't really suited for. I liked how easy it was to set up each MySpool device. You simply plug the device in to an outlet and then connect your smart phone to the SAS-xxxxxxx WiFi SSID that appears in Wi-Fi Settings. You will be automatically directed to a home page on the MySpool device where you select a local home WiFi SSID in your house that provides Internet access and then enter the password. Once this is done and the settings saved, the SSID for the MySpool device disappears and the MySpool device registers as an unclaimed device with the MySpool infrastructure in the cloud. You should write down the SAS-xxxxxxx ID from the first device that you set up, because you'll have to manually enter it into the MySpool account that you create in the cloud so that it knows which unclaimed MySpool device that it's heard from needs to be associated with your account. Once it attaches the MySpool device to your account, you can set it up to send emails to up to two email addresses, and text messages to up to two mobile phones when the device senses a loss of power and when power is reinstated. You can customize the messages as necessary so the events make sense to you. Once the first MySpool device is manually entered in this way, every future MySpool device that you power up and configure with the same WiFi SSID and password is automatically associated with the same MySpool account in the cloud, so you then just have to configure target email addresses and mobile phone numbers for them and the specific messages that will be sent. You'll get a preliminary email on each of the email addresses that you configure, from which you have to click on a link to "subscribe" to future power up/down event messages from each of the MySpool devices. You test each device just by unplugging it and plugging it back in again, and checking to make sure that you received the appropriate emails and text messages. I've only had my MySpool devices installed for about a week, but so far I really like them. The only thing I don't like is that text messages are rate-limited to allow only one message from each device every 5 minutes. This is fine for most of my devices, but for the device that's directly plugged into the generator-protected outlet I'll get a utility-failure message immediately, but I won't get confirmation that the generator has kicked in until 5 minutes later, even though the generator will typically restore power in about 10 seconds. When I'm away from my house that could be a harrowing 5 minutes to wait before I know that the generator has started. However, my Cummins-Onan generator has been extremely reliable since it was first installed 15 years ago, so I'm always pretty sure that there won't be any problems. Also I don't think the 5-minute rate-limit is always accurate, one time I only had to wait about 2 minutes for the second message to appear. In summary, I highly recommend this device.

No alarm (unlike most power monitoring systems)
I was looking for a power monitoring system without an alarm (for my boat) and this was a perfect solution. Quick and easy to set up, and it both emails and texts me almost instantly upon power loss. Small footprint too.

Flawless for 3 1/2 Years
I've had this MySpool Power Failure Detector connected for 3 1/2 years now and it's been flawless. Has provided great peace of mind while away from a subarctic home. Number one best thing about it is NO subscription! I am so sick of getting nickled and dimed in this new subscription age, so this product and service is a breath of fresh air. I recall it was easy to set up. If you're using it to detect utility power outages, as I am, make sure you have a UPS for your router/modem/ONT/Satellite - whatever connects your local network to the internet, so the device can send out it's warning. I saw a one star review from someone who couldn't quite grasp this simple concept, lol.

Ease of mind for power failures
I recently installed a second refrigerator in my garage, however I was concerned because the electrical outlet was on a GFI circuit and we have experienced times when this circuit had been tripped with loss of power until reset. My concern was this happening and not being aware of this as the refrigerator is only opened occasionally. Also concerned if this happened while we were away from home. This device solves that problem as notifications will be sent to my email and texts to my phone if there is a loss of power. You can also add a second email and up to 5 phone numbers for texting. Setup was easy and there is no additional APP to install. I highly recommend.

Great low cost investment that could save you thousands.
Great product! Easy to set up. Consistently sends a text and email with ability to add numbers and/or emails depending on your preference. You can also rename the device and notification titles. This is extremely helpful when out of town to protect your food especially for deep freezers that are usually tied into sensitive GFCI outlets in the garage.

Superb product, excellent support, innovating company.
[UPDATED] I purchased this product to monitor power failures. Here is my independent review. Product configuration was straightforward **if you follow the instructions carefully**. Basic understanding of WiFi enabling/selecting/activating is required. The main idea of the product to use internal batteries to be able to send an email alarm was brilliant! Very innovative. The ability to send native SMS messages instead of relying on service provider gateways was good. As an example, if your provider is AT&T you do not have access to such gateways. Expanding this SMS capability with the Professional Alert package is very nice. The integration of the product with AWS is excellent. I especially liked the ability to manage the device via simple WEB application without overheads of “yet another mobile app”. I loved it’s simplicity combined with flexibility. In addition to the perfect operation, my experience with their support staff was extraordinary. They responded to my emails within hours during the weekend, and I had several exchanges with them thereafter. In fact, at a critical point of my work, their software engineer, Edward, called me live to my cell-phone and helped. MySpool should be very proud of such engineers working for them. Overall, I recommend not only this product but also other ones from this company. This little company in NJ reflects ingenuity, “whole product, end-to-end” superiority, and superb service.

A very useful tool...
Purchased this to monitor whilst utilizing portable refrigerator. Not the simplest to get connected to Wi-Fi, but not too bad. Once configured will send e-mail and/or text alerts for customizable power on / power off notifications. Would purchase again and I like the backup batteries ( 3 x AAA required to send signal to Wi-Fi router if power goes out) are easily replaceable. This is something everyone should have if they care about power status.... impressive!

MySpool Power loss detector - Easy to set up
I purchased this product post a situation where I went on vacation and had no idea that power to my home had been lost for approximately 3 days. This led to spoilage of foodstuff which was a costly loss to me. Setting up of the device was easy. However, for android devices, if the pop up browser does not appear automatically; you may have to ensure you have no pop up blockers active or physically type in the network link itself within the browser on the device being used. Instructions came with the device olus they were also available on the MySpool website. At the end of it all I was able to successfully set up register and test my device via the email alert option. Now I have a dependable option to alert me when power is lost while I am away from home.

Does the job
Does what it is intended for, but you need a USA phone number for the sms (you can get one that is web based for free)
