Can use kieselsol alone to fining the wine without mixing with chitosan?

You can do that. The reason for using them both is that Kieselsol is negatively charged and Chitosan is positively charged. First the Kieselsol is stirred in, and a day later the Chitosan is stirred in. This procedure removes all particles, both positively and negatively charged, from the wine. It's likely that the majority of particles in the fermenting wine are negatively charged, so if only one agent is to be used it's probably better that it be Chitosan.

How much per gallon of wine would a person use (ie- how long would this bottle last)? Does this work with sparkling ciders/wines? Thank you.

Typically this is used in conjunction with the D2 stage chitosan ( neg charge). It should work with wine, beer, ciders etc. I use it to clarify juices and typically use it in two courses at 2ml per liter approx. Youll want to be careful with these finings, as using too much will affect the flavor. I use quite a bit of this stuff and it lasts quite a while.
