Not a toy. Surprisingly well made. I did replace the rope.
I got this to lift a/c units up into a ceiling. Light lifts and short distances. Worked like a charm. Runs smooth. Didn't tangle. I used a cleat to hold the rope while I was working. Will it lift 4000 lbs? Maybe, but not without a winch to pull the rope. What could I hook it to that will hold 2 tons plus a safety factory of 2? Dragging something I might give a try. That brings me to why I replaced the rope. For the price I would buy again. A 3/8" twisted nylon rope is plenty strong but nylon stretches a lot. If I have 4000 lbs of tension on it what I've made is a giant slingshot. If something breaks there will be parts flying about. I put a 3/8" by 100' Dacron climbing rope on it. The Dacron rope doesn't stretch and recoil the way nylon does and I got some more lift length. The rope did cost as much as the pulley system but safety first.

SUPER strong.
My wife and I used this to drag trees out of woods and into our Western MD cabin for support beams, see picture attached. We hauled similar trees like this one up to the open 2nd floor balcony after screwing one end into the rafter. It was a breeze. YES, the rope is short if you want to do anything more than 8' so I bought a 200' spool of similar rope material and rethreaded the pulleys.. We have dragged 26" diameter oak trees at least 20' plus in length around the property to get them in a position to plane and cut up. Using the original rope, I have put enough pressure on the system that the white rope broke but the pulley system stayed intact and functional. I will now have these attached to trees to lift and lower my very heavy hunting stands and take them up and down by myself. You can't beat these for the price. I also use these to lift my deer bait buckets after I refill them. They go up so easy with the 7 - 1 pull ratio.

Excellent good with a better rope
This is a very good block & tackle, except for the rope. I replaced it with a diamond braid rope. Before it would twist and was hard to grip, now it works great.

I will tell you what this is PERFECT for..
-When you need to lift a few hundred pounds, but you are not going to use it very often and you can't justify spending a lot of money on a high quality, heavy duty, system. -This is NOT good for "real" work. People are posting pictures where they've tried to haul logs, lift building materials, etc and are upset because "the darn thang broked!" THIS COSTS $19 PEOPLE! IT IS NOT MEANT FOR HEAVY DUTY USE DESPITE THE LOAD RATING. It is PERFECT for me because my hobby is home brewing and I sometimes need to lift a full 160 lb beer keg. This has a ratio where I only have to pull around 20 lb to lift a full keg. I don't use it very often, so I couldn't justify spending a lot of money. $19 for a full system including rope is quite a bargain. This will probably last forever the way I use it. I'd love the huge lifting ratio because I can hold the rope in one hand and easily move the suspended keg into position with the other. This item is fantastic for this sort of hobby use.

4000 LBS A JOKE
Cheap Chinese junk construction, but helpful, inexpensive, and worth the money in some circumstances. BUT YOU COULD BE RISKING YOU LIFE TO LIFT 4000 LBS (even 1500 lbs). As the packaging implies, it would be great for hunters hauling up a deer by the hind legs for dressing, but for anything REALLY heavy, get something better made--like maybe a chain hoist. The rope is polyester and EXTREMELY slick and somewhat stiff. For anything of significant weight, grip is the big issue. Replacing the rope with a better one would make a much better and more usable product. The "keepers" on the hooks are cheap pot metal and immediately bent and got in the way of function. For each foot you move a 700 lb object with the 7 to 1 ratio pulley system, you have to exert a hundred pounds of downward force and pull the rope 7 feet (actually even more force to overcome friction and rope stiffness). I used it to lift a 300 to 400 lb. stump 3 feet so a pickup truck could back under it. I barely accomplished this alone with high friction gloves and I am 6'2" and 235 lbs--the slick rope was the biggest problem and it cut into the hands due to its small diameter (around 1/4"). To get enough traction on the rope, it was necessary to rap it around my hands as I pulled in 21 feet of rope, so it was not easy to have someone else help. Good luck with anything much heavier. However, I couldn't have gotten the stump into the truck that day if I hadn't had this hoist, and I know it will come in handy for future situations. Just don't try to use it on anything beyond 1000 lbs. unless you have a winch and a death wish. Two tons lift capacity is a joke.

Works as advertised.
I got this to replace a 2-pulley system which I’d used to raise and lower a 350 lb. foldable utility trailer. When using the 2-pulley system , I was fraught with anxiety due to how very hard I had to pull to get the trailer raised. This 4-pulley system allows me to much more easily raise and lower the trailer, reducing both the physical and mental stress on me. The issue of the rope twisting was easily remedied by taking my time running it through my gloved hands a number of times, until it stopped untwisting. I did this with the block & tackle mounted at the ceiling, with the two blocks up against one another. It will now hang with the lower block pulled all the way down without twisting, unlike before I untwisted the rope. Hope this helps.

Required Critical Incident Tool For Survival
If (or WHEN!) there is no gasoline available to power chain saws and power vehicles with wenches that would normally be used to clear downed trees, debris and obstacles, what is your default plan? Hopefully it will not come down to it, but we may have to rely on old-fashioned brawn muscle power to do the job. This Super-Handy Rope Hoist will minimize the amount of muscle to do the job for you--which in turn reduces the number of people for you to rely on for help. This hoist works. It is a hefty size and weight, but is available at an affordable cost on Amazon! This hoist has many survival applications. I recommend getting two (2): Have one out to use now for around the house, farm, field and RV, and; have a backup in your "Go Rolling Duffle Bag" if you have to Bug Out because of a major critical incident. Note that at 9.3 lbs it is too heavy to place in the everyday person's Backpack Go-Bag, which is why it should be placed with other heavier items in your Go Duffle Rolling Bag, or Survival Cart. Hoist Away! Stay Safe, ...Chappy

Worked for big heavy LVLs
I was using an LVL as a subfascia for a porch and working by myself. The LVL was 9" wide and 25 feet long and so pretty hard to manage on my own. I installed the block and tackle on my house and pulled one end up to a ledge at the approximate subfascia height and secured it. I moved the block and tackle to the other end of the porch and pulled up the other end of LVL into approximate location. I left the block and tackle in place so I could lift or lower the LVL as necessary while I nailed it off to my rafters. It worked really well overall and though it seemed like the ropes might get tangled they never did. I was raising the LVL about 16' off the ground which was the very limit of the block and tackle. I guess if you needed to raise some higher than that you'd either have to move the block and tackle higher or replace the existing rope with a longer one. I'm not sure if I'll ever need to use it again but at $32.69 it was totally worth it even for a single use.

Works slow but great - well made
I use the Heavy duty hoist for lifting stuff in our garage up & down from a shelf I built years ago. Works slow but great - well made. It suited my application ok. Fred B.

Make some jobs easier.
I found the item to be very easy to use and it worked seamlessly. It made the job of hoisting my summer tires and rims much easier to raise into the tire rack some 10 feet off the floor.
