The book I received looks like it has been printed and guillotined by a distracted primary school teacher. The print is not centred and just about remains on the page without sentences/music being sliced. Cheap looking, which is a shame.

Useful detail about how to construct and then play the Anglo Saxon Lyre either by plucking or using simple chords.

Too light on information
From other reviews, I'd expected the section on constructing a lyre to be longer, more informative, better illustrated and just, well, better than it is. The diagrams are small, incredibly basic and of little use, the written information not much better. The tunes and info on tuning are OK, I guess, but if that's where your interest lies, you'd be much better off getting 'Norþhærpe - How To Play Anglo-Saxon, Viking & Germanic Lyres + 80 Tunes,' by Paul Wilding, which is also available on amazon and has 104 pages as opposed to 24 for 'The Lyre Handbook.' 'Norþhærpe' is far better value than this slim booklet. And if you want to build an Anglo-Saxon lyre, you'll have to look online for detailed instructions. Incidentally, the name 'Anglo-Saxon lyre' may be misleading as there's archaeological evidence that similar instruments were played in the British Isles during the Iron Age, centuries before there was such a thing as an Anglo-Saxon.

it is clear on its description but I was really looking for more on playing the lyre than building one

My son-in-law really likes this book as he is able to learn the lyre. It is very hard to find anything about actually playing this ancient instrument.
