Rada Cutlery Quick Edge Knife Sharpener (R119)

Easy to use and very effective! The steel wheels on this sharpener put an quick edge on my carbon steel kitchen knife that allowed me to slice a tomato with no trouble. Does a faster job than the last two-notch sharpener I bought and cost less. I am not a chef, I'm a home cook, and I really appreciate a basic kitchen sharpener that does the job as simply as this one. Doesn't look fancy but seems durable, and it is compact--doesn't take up much drawer space. Figuring out how to use it is easy if you consult the package.

The knife sharpeners are the BOMB! How can you beat inexpensive and easy to use? I use these on fish filet knives, paring knives, my butcher and chef knives and they are always razor sharp and ready to go. With this price, I pack one in my kitchen "go bag" for trips and vacations. They are easy and safe to use. The design is tinker toy simple but it works!!! A quick wipe down and you can throw it back in the drawer till next time. I have given a lot of these as little gifts and everyone loves these little suckers.

I want to start off by saying I’ve tried many types of sharpeners, and dozens of different brands over the years. Frustrated with every one of them, I resorted to the tried and true (and SLOW) whetstone method for the last couple years. I hate it, but it has been the only thing that works without ruining blades. I was watching YouTube one night and out of the blue the presenter casually mentioned this sharpener while cutting up a roast during a recipe video. I’d never heard the brand so I looked it up while watching. Cheap. Thirty bucks for 2 of them. Why not. I can always return it if it sucks, right? It was delivered the next morning and I grabbed a dull chefs knife and gave it a go. In about 12 slow gently pulls across the “wheels”, I checked the edge. 15 seconds is all it took and the knife was sharp. Not sharper, not slightly better… really sharp. I chopped and sliced a few things and I gotta say, I was impressed. So, I spent about 15 minutes today running through about 20 different knives. From paring knives, to cleavers and everything in-between - from straight edge, to wicked curves. The only one that wasn’t quick and fabulous was my thick bladed cleaver. It took quite a few more tries, but it is very thick and a very hard type of metal so it’s always sharpened slower. However, it came out wicked sharp. I can confirm this tiny little “toy-like” sharpener, that looks like it was built using a truck stop gift shop build-by-number baggie of parts actually is pretty great.

It's expensive for some metal washers fastened to some plastic but it's the best knife sharpener that I've ever owned and it has a life-time warranty on all the parts and assembly. The cheaper nockoff brand has some bad reviews so I got this one. My mom bought the same one over fifteen years ago and it still work great. If ain't broken don't fix it. You might be able to make a homemade one with a block of wood, a couple of washers, and two screw. But if you want to spend the money, this thing's great.

I have never learned how to sharpen a knife properly. I have a bunch of sharpeners including a $120 Chefs Choice that I got for my wedding. I ended up taking my knives to a professional but the cost kept me trying to learn how to do it. As I was practicing I knew there was a good chance I was actually ruining the edge rather than sharpening it. I was always frustrated by this nick on my man card. My knives were a hodgepodge including some pricey German ones. I was on vacation and went to a flea market. My wife picked up a Rada tomato knife. I knew that it was because I couldn't keep our knives sharp. On returning home I picked up two more Rada knives and this sharpener. I hadn't heard of Rada before but I found out they are American made and they look pretty sharp with the aluminum handles. I expected to try to keep the new knives sharp by honing them regularly with this. Then curiosity got the best of me and I took out the beat up dull knives and gave it a go. This item did remove material. I could feel the variability in the resistance as I pulled knives through as the damage I had done was being corrected. After 50 pulls I could tell that there was improvement. Then I did 10 pulls at a time until the blade was sharp. The worst ones took about 100. I don't know exactly how it works. Some people have said hat it's not a sharpener. I don't care. I was going to replace all of my knives but now I have to decide what to do with the others that I was going to donate as they are now sharp again after using this thing that's not a sharpener. Some people have mentioned having trouble with it. I'll admit that it took awhile to sharpen the dull blades and depending on the knife it felt like sometimes I didn't have it set in the groove properly or needed to add a little pressure. Maybe with successive pulls the metal warmed up and became more workable. I noticed that my more expensive knives were easier to sharpen than the cheaper ones. After my experience I would say to try again or have a friend try it. Sometimes there's variability in human beings. Even nice ones that mean well. Speaking of nice people that mean well, it is so easy to use that my wife might hone regularly. I can treat them all in a few minutes and don't dread the idea of taking all of the knives to a pro or feeling futile struggling with some other method. I buy a lot of stuff on Amazon (over 60 orders in 6 months) but I don't usually take the time to review unless I'm emotional. Usually that means that I'm pi$$ed off and leaving one star. But I am emotional over this one and it's not a bad thing.

I purchased this based on the reviews here and on videos I saw on YouTube. How this knife sharpener works is beyond my understanding, but it absolutely works. No files, no grit, no motor. Just two round metal washers. Wow. I took the advice of someone who did a video on YouTube, and I also purchased a strop since he said these night leave a bit of burr, especially if you don't apply light pressure evenly as you're passing it through. I never had a strop, But between it and this sharpening device, I ran a paring knife across a piece of paper and it cut like I was using a razor blade. I've never done the knife test on paper with that result. Just amazing.

This is a great compact knife sharpener. We love that it is easy to use and sharpens well. Seems to be made well with quality materials.

Very good middle of the ground sharpening. It wont be the sharpest knife in existence but for the price and ease of use it's great for an average household kitchen.

Materialwert unter 1 Euro: kleines Plastikteil mit 2 Blechscheiben. Und funktioniert nicht. Habe nach Video Tutorials auf YT versucht mehrere Messer zu schärfen - ohne Erfolg. Musste es deshalb zurücksenden. Die guten Bewertungen sind m.E. überhaupt nicht nachvollziehbar.

Kinda pricey but absolutely the best knife sharpener we have ever used and I first started buying these for friends and using since 1993! Before this sharpener I could never get my Henkel set sharp enough. My husband keeps one in his tackle box for his filet knife.
