A definite upgrade for those who use their pens a lot!
Pen works flawlessly on the Surface Pro 3. The pairing process was virtually identical to the SP3 pen, quick and easy. The first thing I noticed when I picked up the pen was how well balanced it was. The old surface pen felt top-heavy at times; however, this pen felt just right. The pen I bought came with four extra tips (there is a special promotion that includes these tips with every pen purchase as of the time I wrote this review). I instantly changed the default tip on the pen (HB) to a higher friction one (B). Writing with the new pen feels great, the added friction really makes writing on the SP3 a much better experience. Things I want to point out about the pen features: 1. Single press eraser button to launch OneNote still work (as does single press to launch OneNote from locked screen) 2. Double tap eraser button to clip screen and send to OneNote works just as well as the SP3 pen. 3. I had my doubts regarding whether the eraser feature would work properly with the SP3; however, I was pleasantly surprised that the eraser worked perfectly with the pro 3 (tested on Drawboard and OneNote). Erasing feels rubbery, just like an actual eraser. 4. Press and hold eraser button to launch Cortana works. 5. You can still tack on the pen to the right side of the SP3 where it will magnetically stick if you're like me and don't use the pen loop. The pen seems to hold a bit more tightly this time around. 6. Pen latency feels just as good as the previous pen (it may be better, but I only use the pen for writing notes). 7. The SP4 pen has a higher hovering distance from the SP3 screen than the SP3 pen (I can hover a full inch away from the screen and it will still register). Things to note: 1. Unlike the SP3 pen (which required two batteries), the SP4 pen only requires a single AAAA battery. 2. Once I found out that the eraser works flawlessly, I began to wonder if Microsoft had added a feature that would let you to scroll web pages with the eraser side of the pen (this would make sense as you could use the pen side to select text and the eraser side to scroll). Unfortunately, this was not the case. Perhaps this is not possible with the way current software is set up. 3. The only has one button now (hidden under the vertical grip along the pen's side). The only complaint I have regarding this button is that it can be difficult to press at times as it is very "tight"; however, this may be a plus as it may prevent you from accidentally pressing the right click (a minor issue with the SP3 pen). Overall, this is an excellent pen, a worthy upgrade to the already great SP3. If you are someone who uses their SP3 to write, take notes, annotate papers in PDF format, etc. this upgrade should definitely be considered. 10/10. Would buy again.

Exactly what I needed for my Surface Pro 3, with a slight addition.
I have a Surface Pro 3 and I got this Pen for 2 reasons. 1) I liked the features over the SP3 pen (Such as changeable tips and the eraser at the top) and 2) because I wanted to magnetically attach it to my surface. For the first part, this pen lived up to my expectations. The drawing feels much more natural with more friction on the screen. The eraser is great. manually selecting the stroke eraser in OneNOte was a PAIN given how many mistakes I make when writing (A lot). For the second part I ran into an issue. I wanted to mount the pen on the opposite side of the charging port because I wanted it mounted while using a Surface Pro 4 dock. Here's the deal. YES it does magnetically connect. But ONLY where the volume rocker is. The other magnet on the pen (located where the right click button is near the tip) does NOT magnetically attach to the surface. As such, gravity takes over and the pen tip drops to my desk. As a work around I bought these rather fantastic magnets: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0033PHCU0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 They are 0.375" in diameter which is just a mm or 2 larger than the side of the Surface Pro 3 and 1/32" in thickness which is just a HAIR thicker than the volume rocker. I placed it on the side where the right click magnet would attach to the surface and BAM, works flawlessly and stays perfectly intact. The only issue is the magnet SLIGHTLY interferes with the kickstand closing, but not enough to cause any issue or damage. Hope this helps someone!

Great! Love the pen kit.
I got my Surface Pen in the mail yesterday. I was surprised it was available for ordering, 4 days before it's actually released - after all, MS said you can only pre order it until the 26th. The first thing I did was connect the pen to the surface, following the instructions in the box. After that, I tested it. I noticed the new eraser button doesn't really feel like plastic, but a more soft and rubbery material. At the same time, it does feel durable. It works well, too. I used it in Photoshop and OneNote when I tried it. It also comes with the pen kit. The pen kit has 4 types of nibs: 2H, H, HB, and B. Those are measures of friction. Notably, there are actually two HB nibs - one in the pen, one in the pen kit. The new pen's magnet has a right click button built into it closer to the nib. I couldn't figure out how to pull out the nib at first - then I read the instructions, and you use the side of the pen kit opposite of the nibs to grab the nib and pull it out. Overall, a great product, and even better than the original Surface Pen.

Great Quality, but no provision for Finding it if you Lose It
This is a replacement for a lost original. FOUR STARS because there is no way to track a lost Surface Pen if it falls into a location where you can't see it and you didn't see it fall. This is a design LACK on this device, because either they thought no one would ever lose one of these things (really?), or because they never considered it (not likely - these are smart people), because they didn't think it was worth the added expense to add this technology (most likely reason), or because they knew people would lose them and they saw it as an opportunity to sell replacements and make more money (this sounds cynical, but corporations have been known to use this type of reasoning). In any case, without a way to track a lost pen, I cannot give this five stars. NO LESS than four stars because the device works extremely well for its intended purpose, and because this particular item as I ordered it came with four additional replacement pen tips, in four different hardnesses. These replacement tips did not come with the original stylus I got when I bought my Surface Pro 4, so this is a nice extra, even though I haven't used any of them yet. The four replacement tips come in a nice holder, which has a clear plastic protector over the tips on the one end, and a tip-remover device on the other end. The replacement tips in their carrier are fairly small, and consequently easy-to-lose, so I have put them, along with the user manuals (printed in 2-point type, of course) into a zip-top bag, labelled with a Sharpie, to keep them all together and store them in my "computer extras" drawer. I looked at several off-brand replacement pens for the Surface, but decided to go with the original MS brand because of the eraser-end, which none of the others had, as far as I could tell.

This is a MUST have upgrade for SP3, Love it but...
I had been happy with the old SP3 stylus until I got to try out this new stylus. I can wholeheartedly recommend doing this upgrade! Oh my goodness the feel is so much more natural as you write across screen. It comes with 4 tips but I have been loving the default HB. I just use my fingernails and pinch the tip and pull it straight out to replace the tips. The feel of the new stylus is better in my hand because the buttons are not in the way anymore and the new flat surface along the barrel makes it more comfortable to hold. The biggest welcome change for me was the new button placements. On the old stylus I would accidentally trigger one of the two buttons regularly but this new one solved the problem completely for me by hiding the select button under the flat strip. The eraser button on top is intuitive yet also prevents me from accidental triggers again not to mention the resistive feel against the screen is also very natural. The top button also serves to trigger OneNote app or a long press serves up Cortana which is nice. The battery is accessible by turning the top only a 1/8 turn (don't "unscrew" it) then pull apart the barrels. I appreciate that there is paper battery orientation tag that slides conveniently around the battery. I have read complaints about the magnet not sticking as well on the SP3 versus the SP4 which is true however I think it is a little misguided advice because even on the SP4 with the much stronger hold the stylus is still easily dislodged with a bump. The SP3 style loop is MUCH more secure in holding the stylus and it fits great with my new stylus. My secondary location for the styulus is on the crease of the keyboard like it shows in the photos of the new Type Keyboard. BTW: I also highly recommend the upgrade with the new Type Keyboard with Fingerprint ID. I have been using these two together and it is almost like I got a new system with the improvements these two accessories brought to the SP3. I use the Fingerprint ID flawless. It is super quick. I just wished they had put backlight around the sensor and trackpad. Suggestions for improvement: - Allow the top button to be configurable to trigger a user selective app. For me that would be OneNote (desktop) but for others it could be Fresh Paint or a Music writing program. - Have a tiny thin slot the width of the stylus shirt clip in the upper left corner of the case. This would allow us to physically slide the stylus clip and secure it more robustly with the existing magnets still holding it as well in that position. - On the back of the battery orientation tag have it blank so we can write the owners contact info in case it is lost and some good hearted soul wants to return it ;-) - Have some 3rd skins available for the barrel to customize the look like we do with the Surface Pro.

Worked for two weeks
Worked for two weeks then the tip stopped responding 80% of the time to my Surface Pro 4 The eraser end still works and the cursor shows up when holding the button so I believe this is a hardware fault within the pen itself. Another thing is that for some reason pressure doesn't work with my pen, at first I thought it was a software issue but it seems to be hardware as well. I do want to mention that there is a known issue with this specific pen where the ESD (electro static discharge) protection varistor will fail and cause the front to stop working. Another thing (that is a seller fault not product fault) is that Tech EXPRESS is selling pens that are from Fulton County Schools, they are wrapped with a horrible feeling aluminum skin to hide the fact.

A great device!
See easy to use and so accurate. Quite an amazing product, actually. That that top acts as an eraser is both excellent design and very cute. The location of the button is very subtle. Inclusion of multiple tips that simulate different lead hardnesses is very useful!

Pen is good, but info on the product page is misleading.
Just got the pen, today. It paired immediately, and writes well. However, the product page is misleading. The picture shows the pen with a clip, while what I received was a pen without the clip. The product page says "Includes pen tip kit a $10.00 value". One would think, one was getting a spare pen tip kit. Don't kid yourself. No such thing. All I got was the pen with a tip on it, and a battery in it. Unfortunately, due to lack of competitive selling in India, we have have to put up with such unprofessional selling. The pen, though a little high priced is good, the purchase experience is a little disappointing.
