new in box Review: Great cord for 1st Generation Sega Genesis Console. - For those who remember what a Sega Genesis 1 (or 1st Generation) is, it was the larger one with the Red or white mark on the dome by the power LED. If you don't have this, you have the one that is all black, with a button in the center and the controller connections on top. this is the Sega Genesis (2nd Generation), and is smaller. If you are still not sure, but have the CD dock, you had to add an extra piece for the Sega Genesis (1st Generation). Since I haven't found my RF adapter, I had to look into a cable. Was going to make it myself, but realize I can't find the parts anymore (not only in my collection, but in stores). For the price, this was great. Have to admit, didn't realize Audio came out this jack as well.. thought it was composite, RGB and ground only.. Video quality was fantastic (and quite amazed it still works after all these years). Very highly recommended. BUT MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE RIGHT BOX. 2nd and 3rd generations have a much smaller connector (just as round as a sharpie). this one is the old 5-pin keyboard (or MIDI DIN Style) and is double the size at least. Recommend also getting an 1/8th inch to stereo RCA jacks so you can get the stereo audio these games need. Review: This Cord Is Cool - After not knowing where I stashed my Genesis for the past 6 years I finally found it, crammed in the corner of the basement storage room in the house I'm moving out of. Needless to say I was stoked. I couldn't wait to see all of its 16 bit glory on my new 55" UHD TV. With memories of Sonic the Hedgehog and Road Rash II running through my head I hooked it up and hit the on switch. To my dismay what I got was a picture full of lines and fuzziness. I tried and tried to wiggle and finesse the RF cable to get the picture to clear up but every time I thought I had it and let go of the cable, right back to fuzz. Then I saw the A/V port that had never been used and looked to the internet for a solution. Low and behold they make this cable that fixes all the issues had with the old RF connector. The cable arrived, I plugged it in and now everything looks great, well 16 bit great. So now I can enjoy my Genesis in all its glory on something bigger than the 13" screen I had as a kid. So anyway this cable is great, fixed all the problems I had and I hooked it to a dual audio out cable to get stereo sound. Its sure neat.

This Cord Is Cool

Better than the RF connector!
Make sure you have a model 1 Sega Genesis before purchasing this cable. This cable will connect your Sega Genesis (model 1) to your TV through the AV connectors. The video quality with this composite cable vs the coaxial RF connector makes a huge difference. The colors with this cable are more vibrant, text is a bit sharper, and the colors and outlines of sprites aren't "smeared" looking as they are with the RF connector. The single audio connection on this cable is still better than the muffled sound coming from the single coaxial cable as well, however it's a mono sound signal. (It will still output through two speakers, though). However, considering you have the Genesis model 1, I would recommend using the Belkin Audio Y Cable Splitter 1-Mini Plug/2-RCA Plugs (6ft) to get even better audio quality out of the front 3.5mm audio jack. With that, you will get true stereo sound from your Sega Genesis. So the use of this cable for me is to get the better video quality, while using the 3.5mm male to two RCA male jacks for audio.

I want to give this 5 stars
Received my cable two days ago and have had some problems with it. It fits my model 1601 Genesis fine and the game runs well except for the fact that every like 60 seconds when I'm playing a game the screen gets extremely fuzzy to the point where you can't see anything. It reverts back to normal after about 5 seconds but repeats the process. If anyone has any ideas as to why this is happening please let me know.

About as good as it gets, for a Model 1 Genesis
This is an A/V cable for Model 1 Genesis (and I believe Sega Master System as well). The cables and connectors aren't the best quality in the world, but it is good for the money and it gets the job done. There are only two composite cables, one for video, and one for audio. This is normal for Model 1 Genesis, as the rear A/V port only produces mono sound. However, if you have it connected to the correct audio channel (usually the Left aka WHITE connector!) on the TV it should output sound on both sides, even though it will still only be mono sound (NOT true stereo). This might vary by TV, some might not handle this properly. Because of the mono-only sound from the rear A/V port on the Model 1, you won't find a stereo A/V cable for this unit. The only way to get TRUE stereo sound out of a Model 1 Genesis is to use the headphone jack on the front of the unit, and a 3.5mm to dual red/white composite adapter cable. At that point, you'd only be using this cable for the video, which is fine, because the video quality of this composite cable is significantly better in most cases than an RF adapter. Overall this is a good cable, not quite as nice as authentic Sega composite A/V cables, but it's good enough. Edit: Some of these types of cables come with a Red audio connector instead of White. Just ignore the color and hook up the audio to the White connector, and it should output mono sound out of both speakers.

exactly what i needed
I been having my old sega genesis sistem in my closet for years.. I couldn't use it cause i didn't have the imput cable for the tv. When i found the sega genesis av cable at amazon, i had to get it. The first day i got it by the mail i hooked up the old dusty sega system. The av cable was easy to set up. I turn on the sega genesis & i was surprised after many years.. still works. I couldn't wait to play my old arcade games like: the simpsons , batman , sonic, street fighter, etc. The sound & graphics is perfect. Ever since i got the genesis av cable i can't stop playing my sega genesis.. I highly recommended!

A goof up but it worked out anyways
It ended up not fitting in my Genesis. But I had a friend who messed up the same way I did but in reverse. She needed this cable I needed her cable. After we traded cables I was at her house playing oh the memories. We ended up losing track of time and at mid night my hubby called to remind me it was a school night. It worked so well on her Sega. I would recommend this to anyone with her Sega lol.

YES, you will see a difference!!
So here was my situation-- Got a big ol' HDTV for Christmas and I've been getting back into video games again. The PS3 is a kicka$$ system, but I've had a bizarro urge to play old school games from the 80s and 90s-- including the Sega Genesis. I hooked the Genesis up to my HDTV using the standard RF box, but it looked like CRAP. Washed out colors, blurry... Who the heck wants to see that on the big screen?? So after coming across this cable, I figured it was worth a shot. So, was it? Yup. Now keep in mind that even with this cable, the Genesis still puts out standard resolution, not 720 or 1080. So nobody is going to see you playing Shinobi and say "hey, is this the PS3?" But the image will look a lot better than it does with the RF cable. The main difference is that the colors are more refined. I tested it out using the Spiderman game. While your character is standing still, with the RF box, you see what looks like a red halo around the arms, feet and head. With this cable, the halo is gone. All of the red stays within the lines as they are supposed to. And small lettering is alot easier to read. I saw an even greater difference when playing games on the Sega CD. Yeah, must of those games still suck, but at least they look alot better. Truth be told though, in the end, I hooked my Genesis back up to my old Philips 27" CRT instead of the HDTV. The difference is alot more striking when using this cable on a standard TV. I only keep that TV around for playing old school games, and this cable makes my Genesis look crisp and clear on that TV. One thing I just noticed-- this cable also works on the Sega Master System-- the A/V port in the back is the same as the Genesis. So if you want to make your Genesis look as good as it was made to, buy this cable.
