Don't Forget This in Your Car!
I bought this as a gift for my boyfriend's birthday. It arrived quickly and was packed up all nicely. The kit is exceptional, although it is difficult to start a fire with the fire-starter, but that might just be because I'm inept at striking metal against metal. This kit is awesome and is definitely worth the money, however, don't leave it in your car when going out into the wilderness with your boyfriend to go mushroom hunting. He was over the moon impressed with this gift and spent hours looking at each part individually, and promptly left it in the glove box of his car right before we got completely lost in the woods for hours. This is doubly embarrassing because we were both raised in these woods, as well....and then it started to rain....hard. I will tell you one thing, though, while we were stumbling around in the woods, proclaiming how we were going to die, and tripping over hidden logs on the ground, and getting soaked all the way down to our underwear, we kept thinking of things in the kit that we could have used. Trust me, a kit like this is essential if you plan on going on a hike and have a short attention span. Good luck all!

Another great gift for the Bear Grylls fan
I recently purchased this survival kit as a birthday gift for my father. As hes a big Bear Grylls fan, if it says Bear Grylls on it then its a must have. I can't say much about this product as I only purchased it, saw it once, then it vanished into my fathers backpack where he keeps the rest of his Bear Grylls products. I did get to play around with the multi-tool that came with the kit and for such a small tool, it is very good quality in my opinion. The rest of the kit looked very handy though. Sorry I couldn't provide more detail for this product. But from the looks of it, I definitely recommend it.

Not what I Expected
I have one of Bear's knives and it seems to be of a decent quality, but this little package has me concerned for a number of reasons. I will comment on each of the contents. I don't mean to be critical, but there are better alternatives. Stuff sack with whistle: This is actually quite nice. Decent nylon construction and signal instructions on the back. A small (loud) whistle is on the zipper pull. Inner "watertight" pouch. Nice concept, poor quality. The plastic on this is brittle and mine actually came with a large crack in the bottom. Thankfully I have some proper waterproof pouches that are much softer and more durable. Mini multi-tool: Gerber Clutch. This sells for about $15, but it's really difficult to open and use. I like the spring loaded pliers, but the rest needs to be worked-in with oil. The tools on it are very, very tiny. I would suggest the Leatherman Style CS. Much better. [...] Gerber Fire Starter: Appears to be sound. Once the black coating is off, it performs like the rest. Paracord: 5 ft. Not enough. If you can afford the weight in your pack, bring 25-50 ft. This will cost about 3 oz, but worth it. Whistle: Fine, but emergency only. The end does not stay on because you can reverse it for a different sound. Could be very easy to lose making the whistle worthless. Mini light: Terrible. It worked for less than one second when I switched it on and does not work anymore. I can't think of anything more important to have in your kit other than a knife and compass. Speaking of which, there isn't a compass. Snare wire: About 16" of really thin copper. You would be hard pressed to catch anything more than rodents with this thickness. It seems to be about the thickness of stripped phone wire. Emergency blanket: Same as any. Good to have, but doesn't last long. Twine: Looks to be about a meter of twine 2-3x thicker than floss. This can be useful for very small jobs, but it's so thin. Emergency tinder: One. 2-3 would be better in case your fire goes out. Waterproof matches: 8 in total with striking board. Completely sealed which is good. Emergency saw: I have not heard very good things about these in general, but it looks to be a little thicker than most. Sewing kit: 5 colors about 12" each of thread. Two buttons, one needle and a safety pin. Signaling mirror: Has instructions on the back. Useful. Fishing kit: Far better than nothing. A few meters of thin line, 4 swivels, 4 hooks & 4 sinkers. Priorities of Survival Pocket Guide: This could be useful for someone who does not know how to build shelter, find food, water or self-rescue. In all, this little kit has a bit of everything, but it would only last a few days if you don't know how to survive otherwise. If you built your own kit separately, it would cost a little more, but you would also be able to include much higher quality items. However, in an emergency, this would be far better than nothing. However, I had expected higher quality from Gerber and Bear.

Best Kit on the Market for the Price Hands Down!!!
After looking at other survival kits on the market for some time I decided this was the best product for the price! The affordibility in comparison to other simular kits is the reason for the bumping this product up from 4 to 5 stars! I agree with the gentleman below that you can make your own kit, for a little cheaper but that being said im sure he can make his own cloths too with a needle and thread much cheaper as well.. But doubt he is wearing his own brand, anyways I believe it is a great base survival kit to add on too! I actually am in the process of making several more using this as a base which includes, glowsticks, compass, signal mirrors, professional 5ft 3/16' in snares, stormproof matches, nylon cord, led lights, multi tools, compact waterfilter, water purifying tablets, emergancy blankets, etc. And last but not least fishing basics.. Where im from hyperthermia is the least of our worries.. And yes I have caught fish, crabs, crawlfish, on several occasions with just fishing line and a hook tied to a short stick when i was younger. best lure for a kit would simply be a silver or gold spoon! Enjoy your kit!

This is a great kit to add onto
To me Bear Grylls gets a bad rap. Gerber brings a pretty decent product to the market although they contract out of china which I'm not happy about. So does the other top companies I see so many prepper's raving about like SOG, Schrade, Smith and Wesson, Kershaw, Spyderco, Cold Steel, Mora and Camillus. None of these knives are made here in the United States. Only Ontario and Ka-bar Knives are worthy of the praise & title of "Made in the USA" with that said if your going to buy these products that are not made here in the USA stop complaining about it and just don't buy it. Now onto the review.... A few things I like about this kit is the fire starter, mini multi tool, signal mirror, fishing and sewing kit, waterproof matches. The snare wire and hand saw are cheesy at best but I left them in the kit for now and will replace soon enough. I did however add a few things from other kits I felt were better quality such as the space blanket. I took out BG's space blanket and replaced it with Adventure Medicals Heatsheet because it better quality and it has ripstop capabilities plus it's big enough for two people. Also I replace the BG flashlight with a Pico flashlight because it's LED and still small and compact. I changed BG's nylon rope with 550 para cord which as we all know is much better. A few things I added which were not in the kit was a roll of duct tape(AMK), lighter, mini compass, wetfire cubes, basic first aid, chapstick, floss(small amount) and 3 safety pins. Also I removed the emergency whistle cord and used 550 para cord to attach on the outside of the bag with the whistle. Now the bag is pretty tight with these additions I have made and I'm going to add a knife to the whistle since it will not fit inside of the bag but I always carry one in my bag anyway so that is why there is no hurry to add one. These were just things I felt I needed for my kit that I keep with me at all times. If Gerber put all of these things in this kit the price would be outrageous to the consumer. So if your thinking about about buying this kit then buy it with the goal of adding and subtracting from this kit. Your probably never going to have everything you need to survive but at least you have enough to build on.

Super fast shipping and Survival kit was just what we expected
Thanks so much for shipping out the survival kit so fast! It was for my son's birthday and even though we expected to just print out the photo and give him a picture of his present, the package arrived in 2 days!! Everything was as described and we'd definitely do business with this company again. Jack is really enjoying the survival kit and testing out all the components that he can. He's 11 and 'into survival' shows. This would be an excellent idea as a gift for the man or boy who has everything. It's compact and would easily fit into a glovebox or backpack. Jack will be taking it on his next Boy Scout campout. Thanks so much!

Bear Grylls is the man
Needless to say when we got our boat last week i thought before it gets warm enough for the kids we need some serious essentials to keep tucked away..for the price you can't beat this kit and the quality, I stopped b/c this had Bear's name on it but was questionable about the quality of the items (besides the mini gerber) but he really made sure his name went on a quality product.Nobody wants an emergency but if my husband and son don't come home and that boat sinks in the swamp that bag fits right on the captains chair and they have the basics till help arrives. hopefully i never have to use this and i don't get to post what use was like for this item like i usually do! Strongly reccomend this!

A must have for adventurers
This pack is incredibly small and light weight. It won't take up much room in your pack, nor will it weigh you down. This is a must have product for anyone venturing out who might not make it back before nightfall (whether intentionally or not). The tools contained are great and perfect for any survival situation. Be advised, though, if you are not sure what they mean by hand saw, make sure to look this up. It is not a bladed saw, it is more like a cutting string with key chains on both ends. I knew what to expect, but received funny looks when other people found this "Saw".
