Works as Intended
There is not much to say about this product besides that it expands the memory on your 360 unit. Shipping was fast and product came intact. It came with the transfer cable and within in 2 hours, all 20gb were transfered to the new 120gb harddrive. I booted it up and all my information was copied exactly. No problems so far. I would recommend this product. The only downside is of course the outrageous price. UPDATE 3/2/11: Drive is continuing to work, transfered all my data from my 20gb drive. Transfer went perfect, all my info was still in tact. Drive hasn't failed on me, besides being overpriced by Microsoft, it is a good product.

Buyer beware!
I do not fault Amazon for the purchase or the product. I have had nothing but great experiences over the past several years with my transactions on Amazon. They have fulfilled my Christmas shopping for a while. This is my first negative review, and while I think the product is naturally overpriced in stores, I thought I would let market economics play out for this purchase. The order was completed via a marketplace transaction, and not fulfilled directly by Amazon. Having said that, this was the biggest rip-off! First, the product advertised as new by SDN Retail, but arrived in a cardboard box with the hard drive wrapped in bubble wrap. No box for the product, no green and white branding from Microsoft. Clue #1. Given it was a Christmas gift, I did not have the chance to compare it to my existing 20gb hard drive or look at them side by side. Clue #2. However, there were a few things that should have prompted me to return sooner. The 120gb markings were missing, only the HDD displayed. Clue #3. The stickers and badging on the drive were written exclusively in Chinese. Clue #4. Regardless, after the data transfer, which I had to buy my own cord separately, the xbox only partitions 16gb of the drive and informs me there will be possible performance issues. Clue #5. After the data transfer my son and I remained optimistic, I plugged the HDD in to the side port, fired up the xbox and guess what, the drive is not recognized. Just hope I get everything back on the original drive, or I will face a mutiny from a bunch of teens. Anyway, I am beyond the return period. I did file a claim for a defective product and contacted the seller. Now that I had the chance to try the product, I pulled my original feedback.. ARGH...

More Space, Finally
After living since launch with the stock 20GB drive, constantly cleaning off old demos and media files, the new Xbox update adding the ability to copy games to the hard drive finally pushed me over the edge and made me buy this 120GB drive. So far it has worked great. Migrating data off the old drive was as simple as putting in the included transfer disk and hooking a cable up to the new drive. It took about an hour. My primary reason for wanting this was not the increased speed of loading games off the hard drive instead of disc (marginal in most cases) but the quieter operation without the drive spinning all the time. I have a launch unit, so it has one of the original loud DVD drives. Also I assume less drive use will generate less heat and decrease the likelyhood of a red ring of death, but who knows.

Easy transfer, but limited options
This is definitely the cheaper route to get the elite status xbox if you are upgrading, but if you are buying one for the first time you might as well take advantage of the price drop and get the elite to start. The upgrade was easy from my 20GB to this 120GB drive, however there are a few drawbacks to using the kit microsoft sends along with this hard drive for transfer. First off, you cannot copy, modify, or choose which files go onto the new drive. It literally copies everything to the new drive and automatically erases everything off the old. So much for using my old hard drive as a backup in case this one crashes, at least with this kit anyway. It also warns you that some files may get lost in the transfer, and they are not responsible if any lost saved data. Just to be safe, I backed up all my saved game files on a memory card before the transfer, and wrote down the sizes for each section in the system memory tab on the dashboard. That way I could tell, if the sizes were different, that some data was lost in the transfer. Unfortunately, the new drive had a ton of demos that added to the sizes of each section of my memory. I deleted all of the newly added material, and was able to compare the size difference from the two drives and luckily nothing was lost in the transfer. If you don't want to go through all of that, do not use the microsoft transfer kit that is included and try some of the third party transfer devices on amazon that got good reviews. All in all I came out fortunate and now I have a ton of space to download games and such to my hard drive without worrying about deleting to save space.

A bit overpriced but worth it at the end!
I recently purchased this 120gb hard drive and im really happy with it. The tranfer cable and cd it came with made it one the easiest installations ive ever done. I had the 20gb hard drive which worked great and i thought i didnt need more space but then i heard about the new xbox dashboard thats coming in november 08 and i said i have to get a bigger hard drive. I have been reading alot of reviews and i see people writing "I dont need all that extra space" but i dont think people realize that after the new dashboard upgrade one of the new features is youll be able to download any of your 360 games into your hard drive so that your 360 will be quieter, protect your disk drive from scratching since no game will be spinning while youre playing and the 360 can be cooler cause its using less power since theres no game spinning in the system. With the 20gb hard drive you will probably be able to fit 2-3 games since its really only 12 gb your left with after installation not 20gb. The 120gb after installation is 107gb but its a huge difference. One game download will take up 4-5 gbs so if you have 12gb that will leave you with about 2 gb if you install 2 games. Thats not including if you want to download demos and music. So I definitely think its worth the money because youll be able to save your entire game library in it come november. Remember look up the new dashboard update info and then you will see that you will want to purchase this hard drive too.

Must have item for Xbox 360 users
Price is a bit steep since I just got my Xbox 360 5 months ago but a must have item for me. The 13 GB of usable space on the original drive is too small to hold demos, clips and ripped CDs. I started ripping my CD collection to the Xbox 360 and quickly ran out of space. The Media jukebox is wonderful for playing my CDs over my sound system. Installation was completed in less than 5 minutes and the transfer of the 20 GB took 1 hour, 19 minutes. I am currently downloading 7 GB of game demos I can play, as well as TV and movie clips. Tons of FREE content if you have the hard disk space. I believe I can even transfer my home photos to it to use as a slideshow. Super simple installation. Insert CD, pull out USB connections, plug transfer cable into new drive and other end in the rear USB. Push A. When finished, remove CD, turn off unit, remove USB cable, and change out new drive for old (2 seconds or so to pop out old and insert new). Turn on and enjoy.

NOT a Microsoft Product
Do not purchase from AEStore. The product they ship is NOT the hard drive that is listed. According to the listing, the hard drive is BY Microsoft. Instead, it arrived in a cheap cardboard box, bubble wrap, and with no indication it was coming from Microsoft. The hard drive itself had fingerprint smudges on the surface, indicating that it is most definitely NOT a new, factory-sealed product. From the large number of positive reviews, I am assuming that other sellers are sending the real deal, but not AEStore. There was a similar complaint on the 250GB HDD listing, also about AEStore. A buyer, who was duped like me, actually posted pictures of the packaging and hard drive from AEStore. This was the exact same case with me. My suggestion is that you keep switching sellers until one of them sends you the advertised product. If you don't care about the authenticity of the hard drive, buy a generic 250 GB HDD instead. It is about the same price and the sellers do not try to mislead you that the product is not a generic hard drive. The only difference my research has yielded is that while performance wise, generic brands are supposedly just as good, they cannot play original XBOX games without additional tinkering. There are also probably more defective generics out there as well and you might not be able to tell if there are subtle shortcomings in performance. Random Chinese manufacturer X also probably can't be held accountable for product quality either. You would not have these issues or worries with a Microsoft brand hard drive. Also, with products like these, I think it is important for people to list in strongly opinionated reviews, who the seller is for the product in question. I imagine this would help Amazon users decrease the likelihood of being duped by sellers who consistently fail to send the advertised product. Again, my purchase was through AEStore.

A lot of space
I had been watching the 120 GB hard drive for awhile hoping that the price would go down and when it did, I jumped and bought one. We have an 'original' 20 GB XBOX 360 system and it was full. We were constantly erasing things to make space but didn't want to buy a new system for a bigger hard drive. When the 60 GB came out, we considered it but wanted the big one and got it. What's funny is that I heard on TV that nobody could ever fill a 120 GB hard drive and I don't believe that for a second. We still have a good chunk of space left but I believe that at some point it will be full or at least almost. This hard drive has made our playing so much easier to enjoy. I would reccommend it to anyone who is looking for more space even more than the 60 GB. If we would have bought the 60 GB, we would almost have it full and be in the same spot. I will agree that the price was stiff (at least when we bought it) but it is worth it. It gives you the space that you need and then some.
